Unless you've been diagnosed with a serious health condition like high blood pressure or heart disease and coffee has been specifically linked to exacerbating it (which it does in some people) and your doctor is worried about it, then a cup or two of jo a day is FINE. And I've known sh*tloads of people who gulp down coffee all day every day. Not a one of them has keeled over because of their coffee consumption.
Again, it has to be diagnosed and the heart checked to make sure there are no other problems going on. If your heart goes into a wacky rhythm and doesn't want to stop, you can call for an ambulance or go to ER. The first thing they'll do is hook you up to an ECG. That will tell the story right then. So far your tachy times are too brief to do much about them. At some point you'll have to check in with a doctor and ask about getting a heart monitor. At this point, it's all guess work.

I don't have a question per say so it seems more appropriate to journal this than to post it in any of the forums. I am extremely frustrated with my health. I hope that by writing out some of what I experience, how it affects my life, and how it makes me feel, I'll be able to improve my perspective and strategy going forward. I've been dealing with chronic illness for a little over four years. I do not have a well-defined or straight-forward diagnosis.

I started out on Lexapro fine and have no problems with it still but with Tramadol I feel completely alone with dealing what I can clearly see as an addiction. I started out at 2 pills in the am and 2 and night. Now I take ten in the morning till I start to slow down around lunch time then I take ten more. I take 20 50mg pills a day and I can't stop. The quantities consistently increase no matter how I try to stop taking them all together. The withdrawls scare the hell out of me.
Try taking a half glass of carbonated water (mineral or soda) with about a teaspoon of Swedish Bitters (from the health food store) and see want happens. Take it when you feel like a good burp. A couple of times a day. Also try Slippry Elm powder also from the health food store - take about a teaspoonful mixed in room temperature water before you eat. As often as you eat I mean. Don't mix it in juice like they say, just water.
But if it gets back to being almost every day, I can't imagine having to continue to deal with that for the rest of my life. As long as the bone is in place, I have no problems. No swallowing problems, no pain, nothing. I just never know when it's going to pop. I do a lot of public speaking and presentations. My greatest fear is that it will happen in front of an audience. The pain is so sudden and intense that I immediatley burst into tears.
Sorry you're having post treatment problems. As you've probably know we've had several threads during the past week dealing with post treatment issues including many of the ones you mention. Many of us believe that these problems are minimized by the medical community, and ignored by the drug companies in the sense that no significant effort has been made to study the issue in depth.
Yeah, actually, many folks gall bladderless have bowel problems after eating. I know for sure, that eating a lot of fat during a meal, will cause instant need to go to the bathroom, for some folks. You aren't alone, by a shot, and I've discovered that my surgeon seemed to act like no one has any problems after their gall bladder is removed. Try going to a gastroenerologist (GI) about that, and don't be embarrassed.
i then seen a consultant who has arranged for me to get a hearing aid fitted and go back and see him in 6 months. since then my problems have got worse. the constant feeling of blocked ears and the ringing is driving me mad. even when i swallow i can hear like a crackling or popping sounds. i would be grateful for any information and advice.
I think I/we can guess or prognose just as well or better than they can at times particularly if we know something about health and or ourselves and our own health. Never be afraid to speak up because I feel strongly that digestive tract problems are real and translate into other real nasty symptoms like this. Fortunately we can prevent much of this & need to prevent it from happening.
I'm certainly going to talk to mine when I go back and tell him about this forum and we've all got the same problems, being treated the same, and no relief. I, too, have problems walking like in malls and large spaces, with my balance.
Hot teas as a better choice, but it take forever to make a decent cup of tea. Coffee? Well I could get decaf coffee but then there were all of the problems I was having before. I also never could stand instant coffee. So I started looking for a way to have coffee without all of those problems. I came across the Keurig coffee maker and decided to try that out. I don't have to measure out coffee ground so no strength issue.
Sorry Expecting I was on Work. A cup of instant coffee has about 100mg of caffeine. Filter coffee or from a coffee house will have more. 50g of dark chocolate has about 40mg of caffeine. A can of soda has about 80mg of caffeine. My mother smoked about 15-25 a day when pregnant with my brother. When she was pregnant with me she quit smoking completely. And I had no health problems. With my little sister she cut down to about 10 a day and she has pretty bad asthma that requires a steroid inhaler.
Table sugar, honey, and syrups have no buffer, so it's like a shot glass of instant sugar. Right here, right now. Instant fat, too, for people like me who eat it. That being said, I've already been through trying to avoid sugar entirely, and have found that while the weight did drop pretty quickly, it made it harder to live socially. Forget the holiday season. That's what got me.
I quit drinking ground decaf coffee, and switched to Folgers instant decaf crystals. I don't touch anything with caffiene, to include chocolate and Coke which I really love. So far so good. A little background: I'm a 55 year old male, and two years ago I experienced an episode of PAT, and ended up in the ER with a pulse of 208 and VTACH. They slowed it down with drugs, and after a full workup by my cardiologist, I was told to stay away from caffiene.
Too much caffine for anyone (MSer or not) I could understand, an expresso, short black etc from ground beens is high in caffine and is 'real' coffee, the instant I drink doesn't have the same level of caffine, from memory instant is the lowest overal. If you want truth you need to look at reputable sites, research and peer reviewed published articles.
Hi Jay, I agree the coffee drinking at night isn't allowing you to get deep sleep at night. Try and limit the coffee to 2 cups in the morning. Also...what has your diet been like? Fast foods and high carbs can add to "brain fog". Perhaps you should take vitamin B complex and B-12, also garlic supplements. Eating right will do wonders for your mental health. Try not to burn yourself out on studies and work. Pace yourself and eat more green veggies! Frozen...not canned...
Take that first step and follow it with another, another and another. You have in your life combatted other health problems, flu, colds etc. You have managed to overcome them and move on. This is harder but still beatable. Firm up your resolve, bite into your willpower and strength"Gird your loins," so to speak and get moving. I'm betting on you.
i realized i hadn't eaten that much today, just a couple handfuls of cereal but drank A LOT of coffee. So i just got home and ate a couple little pieces of chocolate and some saltines before I cook dinner. Most of the physical symptoms are gone but im still a little on edge after the whole experience. I dont really know what to make of what just happened. This was worse than my usual panic attacks because all they symptoms came on at once.
I never drank much caffine before becoming pregnant, Although I would drink tea sometimes, but coffee never. Coffee makes my heart race, and gives me the jitters, plus it hurts my stomach (too acidy) and I just don't really like the taste. I never drink soda either. Iced tea doesn't make my heart race or give me the jitters, so I figured it didn't have as much caffine as coffee. I guess I should have been more clear about how much I drink.
Since I've had 3 episodes of PAT, I've done a lot of reading on this subject in relation to coffee (not soda). I still had problems with decaf coffee, as it still contains an appreciable amount of caffeine. From what I've read, the only decaf in which tests couldn't detect caffiene is Folgers instant decaf crystals, which I switched to a few weeks ago. It took a little getting used to after my preference for Starbucks coffee, but I've grown to like it (LOL), and it works for me.
Four should do it. 4) Buy some good coffee and drink it black. Don't waste your money on caramel mocha whipped calorie bombs. A simple cup of good coffee barely has any calories. 5) Cut out soda. The key point here is to stop drinking soda rather than switching to diet soda. Some studies even suggest that drinking diet soda can result in weight gain too. 6) Soup is good food. The commercials are true - soup is good for you.
8oz of instant usually has about 95mg. Starbuck's 16oz (grande) brewed coffee has around 320mg. The same thing at Einstein Bros has about 300, Dunkin Doughnuts 16oz has 206. Bryanarae, your vanilla latte (if 8oz) has only 75mg. So if the concensus you feel safe with is 300mg or less, you'll use up your allowance faster if you drink coffee, and if you use drink soda, you can drink a lot more than you think. Bottom line----don't stress, and if you want one or need a boost, have one.
Whenever I drink too much milk, i get an upset stomach and have instant massive diahreahha. However, anytime I have warm milk, say like in my coffee, the same thing happens big time. I have figured on my own that I must be lactose intolerant. However, I can usually eat lots of cheese pizza no problems. I switched to soy milk and love it. Sometimes when I go to a mexican or japanese steak house the same thing happens.
How about taking the med during the morning (assuming you'll be up all day). That's what I do when I start a new medication. I also make sure someone is with me just in case I have a reaction. After the first dose or two, you'll know whether you'll be OK.
It was such a beautiful morning that Ryder and I sat on the patio while mommy enjoyed her coffee and he engaged in one of his favorite activities..people watching. At the table next to me was a women about my age with a little girl that I later found out was a little over 8 months old. Gorgeous little girl, and I told her mom so. Her mom thanked me and of course we started talking about our babies and how grateful we both were for their good health.
