Index finger pain joint

Common Questions and Answers about Index finger pain joint

finger

Avatar n tn Bend and extend the finger at the joint slowly to a range of motion possible without pain. Slowly increase the range of motion. With time the stiffness will go. You can also consult a sports injury center. Other possibilities are arthritis-rheumatoid, injury, inflammation of the sac of joint, finger prick, insect bite, allergy or contact dermatitis to something, tendon injury or inflammation, clot in blood vessel, infection of the skin or pulp of the finger etc.
Avatar n tn I have this problem, burning pain between index finger and 2nd finger. I cannot clench my fist unless I straighten index finger then I can make fist with the other three. I have never heard of this before, so if you have no answer I will have to goto.
Avatar m tn My question is regarding the first joint of my right hand index finger. I believe it is called the proximal interphalangeal joint. The joint has been very sensitive to the touch for a few weeks with no sign of abating. The joint also hurts a little if I bend it fully, but not nearly as much as if I just touch it with a little pressure. I do not see any outward signs of injury. It is not red or swollen. I have no similar pains in any other fingers or joints.
Avatar n tn I have times when there is no swelling or pain and times when it really aches. It is definitely on the inside of the finger joint on the index finger side. I do not have insurance but I will be seeing the doctor in a few weeks if this does not heal. I have no fevers and the joint is not hot or warm when I touch it to my lips. There is no redness. Meanwhile I have found some things that help if anyone else has this.
Avatar m tn t been able to move that index finger for 4 weeks since the pins were still in there, as any movement in that finger caused extreme pain...but now my index finger seems to be stuck in that same position (slightly curved, as if holding a cup). I started OT the Thursday after the pins were removed, but I couldn't do half the tendon gliding exercises as I could not make a fist.
1427077 tn?1282913207 I have a lump on the top joint of my index finger which has been there for about 2 months now. Sometimes its sore but now always & its starting to get bigger. Is it worth getting it checked out?
1336836 tn?1275740921 What could cause my index finger to be numb and tingle when touching the joint of the finger?
Avatar n tn ve been having increasingly frequent sharp, stabbing pain under my fingernail on my left index finger. It makes me wince every time. I also have a strange, semi-numb feeling on the palm side of that same fingertip. The fingernail looks nice and healthy. I've had a digital mucous cyst on my right index finger (which was removed surgically but is back almost as big). Both of these fingers have large bumps or swellings on them at the joint closest to the fingernail.
1625195 tn?1332178662 But my middle finger, index finger and thumb are definitely numb and slightly swollen. My index finger, though, is the only finger experiencing some pain along with the numbness and swelling. Things to note: I did not bang my elbow on anything. I have rested it while sitting at my computer and have been bending it and actively using my left arm where my left arm has had to bend fast and flex out with more than ten pounds (lifting and putting away groceries mostly).
Avatar m tn Wish you had received an answer I have the same symptom. Index finger near the joint with a burning sensation, not when touching it but when carrying a plastic shopping bag or when my purse handles lay across the finger between the first and middle knuckle.
Avatar m tn First it started swelling on my index finger, with a couple of visible red dots under the skin, and then it started on my ring finger, but the swelling was different, it got swollen at one point beyond the big joint of the finger and another swelling at the smaller joint of the finger. This time the swelling was hard to the touch. Like two red dots. And then my little finger started swelling too, but this one was different also.
Avatar m tn The bumps started showing over a week and as they got larger the joint pain spread up the finger and across the hand. As it got worse we noticed the pad on her hand next to the index finger was swelling with a lot of pain to the touch. We talked to another ortho doc and he said it was carpel tunnel, or trigger finger and wants to inject steroids. He did xrays and the bumps did not show so he ignored them and no other testing was done.
Avatar m tn Could there be a cyst under the vein or an aneurysm? It is on my lefthand index finger between the knuckle and first joint. I am a 65-year-old woman and did not injure the site.
Avatar f tn m a 28 year old female and I have been having swelling, stiffness and pain of my right index finger knuckle for over 2 years. It started off as a little right itchy bump on my knuckle (it kind of looked like a welt) and it felt like it was on fire. I noticed it would flare up when it would rain and there was high humidity. From there it has progressed to swelling and it is usually stiff. It has been swollen for so long now that it has started to deform my joint.
Avatar n tn Do you have numbness of the index finger along with the pain? if yes, it could be carpal tunnel syndrome as it involves index finger mainly. Another possibility is of Raynaud’s phenomenon which is constriction of the blood vessels of the fingers and toes. But it is accompanied by skin color changes. Apply ice compresses over the finger. You can also take OTC pain killers. They should help. Also get your blood sugar levels evaluated.
Avatar f tn I am a 56 years old female and in relatively good health. I take one medication for hbp. Recently the middle joints of my little fingers are very tender, red and tend to be very itchy, if that makes any sense and I've also begun noticing some tiny red nodules at the first joint of my index fingers and little fingers. Some times the nodules are a little more pronouced than other times.
Avatar m tn I don´t feel any kind of pain and the joint seens to be working properly. Also when I flex my finger and touch the low side of the joint (the one on the same side as the palm) using another finger I can feel what seens to be a tendon poping, although I also can´t hear any sound.
Avatar f tn About three years ago my pinky finger bent without pain, I went to the doctor and he had an X-ray made, but he could not tell me what it was he only said it had fluid build up on top of the joint, but that it was not arthritis. There was nothing he could do, so my finger is still bent with no pain. There are just some things the doctors have no answer for. Just to let you know you are not alone.
Avatar n tn specifically, the two finger joints of the pinky, the top joint of the ring finger, the central joint of the middle finger and sometimes the knuckle and central joint of the index finger. My thumb's central joint can be popped but causes no pain or tightness. Pressing my hand flat on a surface and forcing it to remain there causes tightness at the wrist and I can feel what can only be described as a 'spring effect' at the knuckles when I release.
Avatar f tn So for a few days on and off my left index finger has been tingly. It's just the tip of my finger and it is on and off. I work as a server and use my hands a lot. I've been wondering if it's just a burn. It feels like there is a string around the first joint of my finger. Not to tight but just annoying. I can still move it and feel things so it's not completely numb just a little tingly.
Avatar f tn The last month my finger pain has really gotten bad and has now started in on my right hand too - and that started with a bout of SHARP pain in the pinky finger joint but is now in the middle, ring, pinky on that hand too - still worse on the left. what gives?
Avatar f tn Thank you, I did go see a hand surgeon and he acted like I was wasting his time. He looked at my x-rays and thats it. Said to do Physical Therapy, and if not better come back in 6 weeks. I still can't bend my index finger, and it is 1 & 1/2 times the normal size, and my hand swells after using it for a while, nad my finger gets very warm, and looks like it's gonna pop. It has been over 6 weeks since this happened and still no pain relief.
Avatar n tn If you have other joint issues then possibility of rheumatoid arthritis and gout should be ruled out first. Both can cause extensive joint pain with rash. If you have RA then you will have positive rheumatoid factor and high C-reactive protein and ESR. High uric acid levels in blood go more in favor of gout. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
467797 tn?1216211257 My finger is stuck in a bowed position, the tendon is standing out and feels very hard and it (finger and joint) gets very swollen. Also, pain is radiating down into my palm In the past few days, my finger is now slightly tingling but I am not sure if it's from the TF or my Raynaud's. I am seeing my primary again in a week but this tingling has me concerned. Should I push to see her sooner? I plan on asking her if I can get the tendon release surgery.
Avatar n tn it is about 1cm long and protrudes from the inner portion of her pinky slightly above the main joint where the finger bents (not the joint by the nail). it is painless and i went online and searched and searched and i'm pretty sure it is a giant-cell tumor, which is supposed to be benign. my question is, do you think she should get it removed or just let it be. the problem is, it seems to be a pretty invasive procedure and my mom would rather just let it be if it is going to be benign.
