Hysterectomy gain weight

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy gain weight

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn so can anybody tell me if it is common to gain weight after hysterectomy or is that just depending on the medicine you're given for hormones
Avatar n tn I have attempted the gym, kepts logs of what I eat, tried over the counter diet pills but currently am almost 50lbs over weight. (prior to my hysterectomy was at a normal weight). When I bring up to my doctor she states that it has nothing to do with my hysterectomy, I have been tested for thyroid and it is at normal levels. Does anyone have any ideas, at this point I do not know what else to do.
Avatar f tn However, studies do show an association between hysterectomy and weight gain. This seems to be more prevalent in women who were prone to weight gain prior to hysterectomy. I have always been thin and could eat anything I wanted and not gain an ounce but since my hysterectomy, I eat quite a bit less (thankfully I lost my appetite post-surgery!) and am able to maintain a normal weight.
Avatar n tn Is there any help for weight loss women that has a hysterectomy i exercise and eat right taken all kind of diet pills.
634218 tn?1228151139 Have you seen your doctor to ask him if the pain meds is causing the weight gain? Don't feel bad, I'm gaining weight too for no reason at all :( I had a hysterectomy in Feb 2008.
Avatar f tn its common to gain weight after a hysterectomy, also its very common to develop thyroid problems , has happened to me and many of my posters please go to your dr and ask for a FULL thyroid panel blood test, you will need to be on a 12 hr fast nothing except water. hypothyroidisms main symptoms are depression, lack of sex drive, weight gain, dry skin, constipation, hair loss.
Avatar n tn HAVING TROUBLE LOOSING WEIGHT EVERY SINCE I GOT MY FULL HYSTERECTOMY TRIED EVERY THING AND STILL NO WEIGHT LOSE DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT I CAN DO TO LOOSE IT
Avatar n tn I have always heard that weight gain is inevitable after a hysterectomy, but does that also apply if you are having one AFTER menopause ? Will bio identical hormones help with this ?
Avatar f tn It can be very easy to blame the weight gain on the hysterectomy but hysterectomies do not cause weight gain by themselves and thats a very true fact! If u have heard that they do well thats just a myth!! Look it up and do your research! Dont let the fear of gaining weight stop you from having a surgery that could change your way of life tremendously or it could even save your life!! Most women are very happy they had their hysterectomies.
Avatar n tn Do you mean you had a partial hysterectomy at 30? (Just the uterus removed?) A total hysterectomy means you would have had the ovaries removed also, and would have gone through menopause at that time. I don't think estradiol will make you gain weight. It might even help you lose a little, or at least make your abdomen seem less bloated.
Avatar f tn How do I get rid of this extra extra weight that I have gained after my hysterectomy? This is ridiculous. ! I have a sugar craving and zero will power. OMG I am size 3x and that is snugg...
Avatar f tn I'm a little confused, but that's not always unusual... lol If I'm understanding correctly, the weight gain started "after" the hysterectomy, but "before" the hypothyroidism diagnosis, is that correct? While many women to gain weight after a hysterectomy, due to the change in hormones, many of us do not - I didn't either.
Avatar f tn I am 41 and had a SILS hysterectomy (still have ovaries). I have gained 10 lbs. since being put on hormones to stop bleeding up untill my surgery. However, 6 months after the surgery I still can't seem to loose the weight. I weight train 4-5days a week, do a little cardio and diet like crazy. Will this weight ever come off?
Avatar f tn Ladies - I am sorry for your post-hysterectomy weight gain. I also had a hysterectomy 8 years ago (absolutely worst day of my life!). I have not gained weight but I do not eat nearly as much as I did previously. I probably would have gained at least 20 lbs. if I ate like I did pre-hysterectomy! I do have the big post-hyst belly and the thick midsection though which I abhor!
Avatar n tn However, I do not think the uterus or ovaries produce leptin. Weight gain after hysterectomy is common but I do not know the mechanism. I personally do not have the energy, motivation, vibrancy, love of life I had prior to my hysterectomy so I am not as active. However, I have not gained weight because I do not have an appetite. I have also had diarrhea since my hysterectomy (which was severe for almost a year) so I lost a bit of weight before gaining it back.
605458 tn?1539228808 My psychiatrist knows to NEVER prescribe something that is known to cause weight gain. I read that the Lupron Depot can cause weight gain. What about a hysterectomy? Will you gain weight too?
Avatar f tn (....I cannot seem to get healthy enough for a workout that will help reduce my weight gain. I am concentrating on whole grains, raw foods and yet the weight will not budge. I am very concerned for reoccuring cancer due to heavy weight and also complications with my general health due to the weight. I am medication free right now, except a small dose of Celexa. I have just had the flu/bronchitus for 10 days and it is brutal. I need to get strong to fight off these things....

Avatar n tn Does a hysterectomy solve the many dilemas such as weight gain, facial hair ect caused by PCOS ? & I have recently found out I have a large complex haemorrahgic cyst with multiple septations again what exactly are these & problems associated with it please, & could low cortisol be causing these problems?
Avatar f tn Not having a uterus explains a lot. Weight gain is a common complaint after hysterectomy even if the ovaries are not removed. But weight gain or not, the lower abdomen gradually becomes distended after hysterectomy. The reason is because four sets of ligaments are cut to remove the uterus. Those ligaments are the structural supports for the pelvis keeping the spine, hips, and rib cage in their proper positions.
