Avatar f tn m nearly 47 and fertility is not an issue, but the surgical option still strikes me as a bit drastic for a number of reasons, among them sudden menopause, possible complications from the surgery, and the long recovery time (I also have fibroids and LAVH may not be possible if my uterus is too large). There is, however, one thing that makes me willing to seriously consider surgery, and that is the increased risk of ovarian cancer in women with endometriosis.
Avatar m tn Can you say why you need a hysterectomy? What kind of surgery are you having. Will it be a complete hysterectomy? Sorry for all the questions but the more we know the better we can help you. I did'nt gain any weight after my surgery. Make sure you eat well and exercise. You'll need 6 weeks of recovery time. That means no heavy lifting, no stairsno sex and plenty of rest. You may need hormones if you have hot flashes or mood swings, this is something you can discuss with your Dr.
Avatar f tn Have you had a TVUS done that would show endometriosis? Having a hysterectomy done is major surgery and a longer period of recovery is needed. Plus you go into menopause, and that is challenging too. How old are you? You should also talk with you surgeon before if you have any questions, I went to see my Surgeon and he answered everything. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
Avatar n tn I personally had endometriosis. I underwent laparascopic surgery in 2001 and battled it for 6 years until I finally had to have a complete hysterectomy (ovary removal) and I am only 31 years old.
Avatar m tn I am thinking about having a hysterectomy because of terrible endemetriosis, I am 47 and have a history of breast cancer, so I cannot get any hormone replacement therapy. But i have read that maybe it won't help. Does anyone have any thoughts?
2012515 tn?1353875525 I would definately seek out a second opinion for that. That is a major surgery and has a somewhat long recovery period, at least for those that I have seen. Maybe some others here have some personal experience with it. I do not. I just know some people who have had one and have seen patient's who have had one done, as well. I can imagine that you would have pain! That's a fairly large fibroid.
Avatar n tn I had a surgery for endometriosis in 2007 but the Doctors couldn't remove it out. They said it is like a watery matter but hard that is attached to the uterus & after they opened my uterus they found out it is Adenomyosis. They closed it back without removing. It's a bit diff from Endometeriosis but I guess it is the same family. I am 34yrs old with NO kids & not married as well.
Avatar f tn I stay in Houston and have found an endometriosis specialist, he advised me to do bowel surgery after lap but he never suggested me to get rid of female hormones. However he wants me to go on 3 month lupron shots which I am not very sure about.
314833 tn?1263259499 NO not at all. I had a hysterectomy for the same reason. endometriosis amoung severe scar tissue. I am so much happier now that I have had my hysterectomy and don't have to be in pain anymore!! Please also post this on the hysterectomy forum so you can get other's opinions there as well.
Avatar f tn I have DIE (deeply infiltrated) endometriosis even after my complete hysterectomy because a hysterectomy is not a cure...the endometriosis lesions/implants must be cut out by a specialist and their are very few. so I would suggest you come on over to the endometriosis board so maybe we can help you find a specialist...they actually cut the disease out...they don't burn it...they don't take organs unless absolutely necessary and most will look at your medical records for free...
Avatar f tn my bad experience was not him or his work but the surgery and what it consisted of and the recovery. I know at least 4 people who have had hysterectomies due to endo and I do not know anyone that was in the hospital as long as I was. I did the hysterectomy as a last resort. I knew after my second laparscopy that I could not have kids due to the endo had eaten away at my fallopian tubes.
Avatar n tn When you had your surgery what was the method of Endometriosis removal? Excision or laser? Also once you had your surgery were you put on meds right away? Was the surgeon a gyno or an Endometriosis specialist? I want to make sure you understand that a hysterectomy will not stop the Endometriosis from growing. I can't emphasis that enough. I totally understand your frustrations I really do.
1809377 tn?1316520328 I am seeing my GYN tomorrow to make an apt to have a partial hysterectomy. I have seen a lot of the posts out there, but I would like to know what I can experiece post up... recovery time... discomforts... how long will it take for my body to get back to my new normal self, how long it will take for me to have sex again (it's been over 5 months)!!!
Avatar f tn 7 percent) had serious complications, and 48 (4 percent) were readmitted to a hospital within the year following surgery because of conditions related to hysterectomy. The most common serious complications were related to the incision or urinary tract problems. TABLE 1 Problem Relief with Hysterectomy Symptoms Improved 12 months post op back pain 72% Vaginal bleeding 99.
Avatar f tn I want to recommend, crwstar, if you have any endometriosis, ask them to excise, not laser burn. I did this for my hysterectomy, but was burned when I didn't know it with the first laporotomy. I later learned that it is better to cut than to burn, because the body treats the burns like foreign bodies and more scarring can happen. Adhesions are no fun.
Avatar f tn Hi..Lulu thank you for your replay my first surgery was c-section 2011, since my first period at agev13 I have really bad pain my mom said not normal because I stayed in bed for 3 days I don't eat anything, my first surgery I thought I don't have pain but after 2 months my utrasound shown cysts my obgyn said maybe it will go when my period, I still have bad period pain back pain I ignored because I am working, after 2 years getting worse my pain Nov. 2013 worse pain ever!
Avatar f tn Yesterday I had my 12cm ovarian cyst removed. I had a prophylactic hysterectomy done too. Inam 47.5 to and my ca 125 was in the 200s. The surgery was by a team of gym oncos with the assumption of ovca and staging operation a Followed by chemo. Instead the cyst was endimetrioma big grapefruit and ovary was size of 10 weeks pregnancy. Everything was cleaned up scar tissue and endo. All done by an laparoscopy by a gifted team. I was discharged yesterday. Came home 5pm.
Avatar n tn My doctor suggested that I have the rectocele surgery repair. I'm hesitating because I've heard horror stories about the recovery and pain afterwards (from other posting sites and my Mom as well who had the surgery 15 years ago). I've been navigating this site and it seems like people here are not spreading fear. Just how bad was the surgery and post op? Thanks.
1615999 tn?1307461942 t know I had severe endometriosis and asked them to save my reproductive organs if possible with that earlier surgery. I was on an emotional roller coaster after that surgery, since they messed with the ovary with the torqued hemorrhagic cyst. My bladder I believe was one of the hardest things to deal with post hysterectomy, because she had to cut about a 2 cm chunk out of the wall of bladder dome, where the sticky endometriosis was causing it to be folded and stuck to my uterus.
Avatar f tn A small fibroid is not a reason to get a hysterectomy, either. Endometriosis can be treated by laparoscopic surgery, but it is to remove the endometriosis, not the uterus. Are you sure your doctor wanted you to have a hysterectomy? Here is a link that describes endometriosis. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar f tn they were all great but I am still scared that I will never feel normal again. This is my fourth surgery in seven years including a complete hysterectomy. This is my first attempt at excision and I could use some reassurance from any of you who have had success with this surgery....thanks!
Avatar f tn I just recently had a complete hysterectomy on May 20/15. I have a follow with my specialist on June1/15, about HRT that he wants me to go on. I had a hysterectomy due to a polyp on my cervix, thickening of the lining and also endometriosis.
486831 tn?1209148864 Well - I had surgery on Monday. It looks like it was endometriosis. Had to do a full hysterectomy. Oh well - It WASN"T CANCER! Yippie! Of course they will do more in depth biopsy and that will take a few weeks. But doc said he was pretty confident. In a little bit of pain mostly in the shoulders from the laproscopy, but other than that doing well. I want to thank each and everyone on this board for their support, advice and encouragment. It's meant so much.
Avatar m tn I am nervous because Friday I go in it has my tubes and ovaries removed as well as thinning of scar tissue from my hysterectomy. What do I need to expect as well as recovery since I have 3 kids under the age of 6. Also any information on different hormone replacement therapies would be much appreciated.
