Hysterectomy and weight loss

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy and weight loss

hysterectomy

I am having the same issue too. I posted today and noticed your post. I can't lose weight and only gaining and gaining fast. I joined kick boxing etc and I am so upset about this. Can it be hormonal?
You grow older and less active and your metabolism slows down and wala, you ain weight. I am saying, its not the hysterectomy if you are past menopause......I did not say that earlier....big difference......dealing with hormones can be tricky.
Hi! I had a hysterectomy at age 31 and I was a size 8. The weight started slowly creeping up over the years and I wasn't too worried until I hit a size l4 several years later. The doctors were absolutely no help. The were men and they just rolled their eyes and said 'watch what you eat'. But the weight kept coming. I'm 60 now and weight 200 lbs., a size 2X. I'm going to another Dietician in a few weeks to try again.
) I also heard that a cleanse could also jumpstart your wieght loss. I did one before and I did lose a little weight -- colonix is the one I did. Anyway -- I commend you for sticking to it.
Lots of times people gain weight after surgery because they are less mobile and more sedentary. It's time to get moving! Talk to your doctor, get off the weight loss supplements, and start concentrating on diet and exercise! Good luck!
when you stall do an apple day or steak day, then you don't have to wait 3 days to resume weight loss. also, they say drink 2L of h2o. that's only 9 cups--you may need more. and make sure you are getting your 100g protein 2X per day or you will not lose. also, if you get plenty of sleep, you lose weight while sleeping. i am very happy for you.
Weight gain is common after hysterectomy. Of course, your thyroid could also be a culprit. And your symptoms of hair loss, foggy head, inattentiveness, and memory loss could be signs that your ovary is "sputtering out" as a result of the hysterectomy. Post-hysterectomy ovarian failure happens about 40% of the time (sounds like your OB may not know this or may not want to admit it).
I had a complete hysterectomy for a prolapse of the bladder and bowel. The uterus and ovaries were both healthy. Since their loss, I have constant depression and swings between despair and hyper energy, unable to sleep, bad dreams, feeling okay then back in to the abyss of mental pain and joint pain, ankle and shoulder pains, osteoporosis and weight gain. My hair has grown rough and I my skin is getting age spots and wringling. I use progesterone creme twice a day and estridiol.
How common is hair loss after hysterectomy? I am at 6 weeks post op and have noticed a small amount of hair coming out with daily showers. Twice weekly Vivelle patches were upped from .05 mg to .10 mg. I am feeling ok otherwise. I still have one ovary intact.
It can be very easy to blame the weight gain on the hysterectomy but hysterectomies do not cause weight gain by themselves and thats a very true fact! If u have heard that they do well thats just a myth!! Look it up and do your research! Dont let the fear of gaining weight stop you from having a surgery that could change your way of life tremendously or it could even save your life!! Most women are very happy they had their hysterectomies.

the only side effect that I am experiencing with the topamax is I feel a little goofy at times and my spelling and overall loss of words at times can be bothersome....Can anyone tell me if the weight loss and loss of appetite will decrease.... I am on 100mg a day... does anyone think I should increase my dosage? ( of course w/ my drs. permission)... this has truly been a great drug for my mood swings as well.....
Doc says I'am borderline diabetic and need to lose weight. The drug was prescribed to help with the weight loss. However she stressed that you still need to watch your diet and exercise. I have been doing this for a long time but kept going up and down with my weight. I am 5 4" and currently weigh 235.5. I weigh in every Tuesday and after 4 days I lost 3 pounds. I am now starting to take the meds 2 xs a day so it will be interesting to see what happens next week.
The tingling in fingers, the mood swings, the stomach issues, and yes the weight loss and FATIGUE. I am only on 50 mg, and will not take more. I am surprised that so many people want to use this drug as a weight loss product. This is not a weight loss product, it is a serious drug, with serious side effects that you have to live with for the rest of your life. If I did not have to take it, I would not.
I didn't want to do anything because none of my clothes fit and I especially didn't want to hang out at the beach with the newly formed rolls and dimples I've grown. I used personal trainers, medical weight loss and starvation. Yes, I tried to eat less than 500 calories a day to drop my weight knowing how bad it was for my body. I realize that was probably some of the problems I had at my office.
Is there any help for weight loss women that has a hysterectomy i exercise and eat right taken all kind of diet pills.
I have joined Curves and have been feeling better. I am bound and determined to get this weight off. I use to weigh 140 and now I weigh 179. I know it will take some time to remove this weight, but I know I can do it! One day at a time.
what can I do about this weight gain I getting to old and right now overweight due to this weight gain. I exercise, eat right but continue to gain a pound-two pounds a month. My health is declining due to the weight gain. What can I do???
I am in the process of having my cortisol levels checked but the doctor does not feel it necessary to check female hormone levels. I have had a complete hysterectomy 18 years ago and have never taken HRT. At this point the hair on the crown of my head is thinning and I have an extra 20 pounds that will no go away. I eat a very excellent diet with minimal carbs and good carbs if I choose to eat them. I exercise 3 days per week at a local gym for one hour each day. HELP!!!! What can I do?
My goal is to eliminate the blood pressure and fluid meds and the acid reflux med.... all of which are caused from my weight. really don't think I can change the hormones, but it losing weight will help me feel better overall... and who knows maybe the hormones will correct themselves...
Again, so long as you're not having other symptoms AND you're not losing more than like 2 pounds per weeks (a good, safe weight loss is 1-2 pounds per week), I wouldn't worry. Be sure that whatever you ARE eating is high in nutrients. You may also want to consider taking a multi vitamin to maybe make up any essential vitamins and minerals that you might not be getting since you're not eating as much.
I've lost 50 pounds 4-5 times in my life and 75-100 pounds twice...but always regained the lost weight and more. At the time of my most recent loss...2005-2007, I'd thought I'd found the secret to keeping the weight off. I was using "food as fuel" instead of "food as friend" and was exercising 2 hours a day (an hour of cardio and an hour of weight training), five days a week. I was able to take up skydiving and rock-climbing and even went to rollerblade camp.
I had a complete hysterectomy 10 years ago for endometriosis and I have been on estrogen since that time. At first I was on a combination estrogen/testosterone but after I had major hair loss I started with just pure estrogen. I take Estradial .5mg. My concern is the length of time I have been on this drug and it's effects on my body. I tried to stop 2 yrs ago, but had major problems with hot flashes, depression, lack of sleep & weight gain. So the dr. put me back on at this low dose.
I had a radical hysterectomy done 9 years ago. Since that time I have gained weight that I cannot lose, my cholesteral level has risen to a danger zone and now take medication also B12 injections. I suffer from fatigue, memory loss, cold sensitivety and other problems. I recently had a FSH test done and was told the levels indicate I am still producing estrogen.
Did you have a full hysterectomy ,do you take hormons ? I take 2mg of estrace a day . I had a full hysterectomy april 05.
and noe of them seem to be that worried about my extreme weight loss....But I am 5'9 and weigh 112 lbs...I am so thin it's grouse...I have no boobies left or anything....I need input, ideas ,advice... .....It's not my thyroid by the way had that tested already...I'm native american and I know that we as a people have a higher risk of getting a lot of things...I'm just at a standstill, and something keeps telling me I don't have time to stand still.
Have had cholecystectomy in my 20s, appendectomy in my 20s, tonsillectomy in late teens, hysterectomy 4 years ago (still have ovaries) and left lung resection and pleurodesis after 4 lung collapses in 2010. This past spring, I had difficulty eating- really had to force myself to eat. Feeling full after a few bites. Also tired. Lost 10 pounds (was weighing 102 pounds). Chalked it up to stress due to a move and career change.
