This has been treated with ultrasound, condroitin sulphate pills for three months, anti-inflammatory drugs on and off, and an insole. The pain when I walk is still there and at times intense. I have two questions:
1. Several physicians have propose hyaluronic acid or cortisone injections. Which is recommended?
2. One physician offered to perform a chondral transplant, consisting in taking fresh chartilage from my knee and implanting it in the toe, with arthroscopic surgery.
Not much a doctor can do - x rays - no treatment except pain meds. You might try getting some MSM and Hyaluronic acid from the health food store. Only thing that can heal cartilage.
Don't horse around like that anymore. If your rib broke just messing around - think what could happen next time!! Take care of yourself. - Also take some vitamins to build your bones and body.

I am 46 yrs old, male, ex-athlete (competitive level basketball) and live in London, England. A year ago I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis on my left hip during an arthroscopy and most of the joint cartilage is worn out. Take glucosamine tablets regularly. Even though my condition is not so advanced to take painkillers etc, I cannot do any sport, which is important to me (even at a light, amateur level) and walking start bothering me after a few hundered meters.
is the left knee, and a recent accident disclosed a torn cartilage and arthritis in the left knee (and some swelling behind the knee.....no pain, just swollen). One injection of Cartisone and 1 weekly injection of Hyaluronic Acid for 3 weeks brought some relief, but very little.
I read about Castor Oil Packs and within 1 hour, I eliminated the swelling (had been swollen for almost 4 months) and daily treatments of COP has eliminated 95% of all discomfort....
Could it cause vision problems,
I have seen that the main ingredient of restylane is Hyaluronic acid, I have found a topical cream that is 75% hyaluronic acid, I know this wont work as well but do you think this is an option or not even worth spending hte money on the cream.
Any comments or experiences would be great.
Greetings, This post may be to late to be of benefit but for several years I have benefited from Hyaluronic acid (Synvisc, Hyalgan, Orthovisc) injections into the base of my thumbs (Basal thumb arthritis). Typically, I need injections every 6 to 8 months. Sometimes sooner and once in a while one or the other thumb will not require treatment for twelve months or longer.
I have had my horses hocks injected before and it really helps with movement and pain reduction due to wear and tear. Whereas the Cosequin does this through the digestive system, the injection delivers the hyaluronic acid (which I assume is what will be used...or some variation of it...) directly into the joint. I would always go the conservative route first, then you can consider surgery.
I'm virtually certain I don't have the rheumatoid(arthritis) One could develop/get it anytime(as I recall), & even osteo from rheumatoid, I suppose. I was diagnosed with osteo in '03 & show no egregious new symptoms which would suggest rheumatoid. If the opposite(were true), I'm certain my physician would've had me do the tests you

Aside from weight reduction and avoiding activities that exert excessive stress on the joint cartilage, there is no specific treatment to halt cartilage degeneration or to repair damaged cartilage in osteoarthritis for your stage of problem.
Applying local heat before and cold packs after exercise can help relieve pain and inflammation for you.
Probably any formulation that contains retinoic acid (i.e., Retin-A or other retinols) and hyaluronic acid will work. CeraVe is simply the first brand that I tried. It is presently my first choice.
5. Acne preparations that contain benzoyl peroxide (i.e., Oxy-10 or similar) or salicylic acid sometimes helps although they sting quite a bit. I think that they simply act as oil cleansing astringents and antibacterials - not sure.
