nitrostat

572651 tn?1530999357 My bp is also low - averages 90/60 but the nitro is for the angina which is not bp related. I find it really knocks me out for a while after I get over the headache ..... If my pain is really MS related and not cardio related, I'm wondering what the nitro is really doing.............
Avatar m tn What would happen if you rubbed pure nitroglycerin on your skin? I'd like to know the symptoms on and below the skin. I know that nitroglycerin is used for anginas, but I also know that it's generally mixed with something else, so I'm curious about how well pure nitroglycerin would work and what it would do. And if you had a vial of pure nitroglycerin, what could you mix it with to be able to use it as ointment?
Avatar m tn I attempted to explain to you, on another identical post as well, isosorbide is generic for sorbitrate and is taken to PREVENT angina due to ischemia. If you want medication handy in the event you are experiencing angina, nitro is fast acting and within seconds or so there is relief. Doesn't make sense to keep sorbitrate handy as there is not immediate relief.
Avatar f tn If you miss a dose of Nitroglycerin Patch, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once. When used for long periods of time without a break, some people develop a physical need to continue taking Nitroglycerin Patch. This is known as physical DEPENDENCE. Do not suddenly stop taking Nitroglycerin Patch without your doctor's approval.
Avatar f tn I am 53 female w/SLE, systemic lupus for almost 10 years. Barrett's esophagus, GERD, gastic paralysis, fibromyalgi, chronic fatigue, Sicca syndrome, list goes on.....This is something new...sudden very severe shooting pain going up right side of neck, carotid area, sometimes into ear, but not always. Relieved with nitroglycerin. Any guesses as to what this could be?
Avatar n tn ed is correct nitro dilates vessels. I take a nitrate (isosorbide) for more than 6 years 3 times before going to gym for workout. My blood pressure does not drop between intervals...in fact I was told to have intervals of nitrate free period. It is true, nitro dilates the coronary vessels and prevents angina (chest pain). The patch should only be worn for up to 12 to 14 hours a day, or as directed by your doctor, but continued use with no interruptions can cause a tolerance for drug....
Avatar m tn My cardiologist thinks the the probability of me having an occluded/blocked coronary artery is very low. My question is, why then am I responding to the nitroglycerin, it being a vasodilator (widens the blood vessels)??? Gastritis and GERD have been ruled out. the doctor thinks it could be anxiety then shouldn't they be giving me a sedative or relaxant as opposed to a vasodilator? I have a pending stress echo test in a couple of weeks and if this test is again normal...
Avatar f tn I had this problem, but the vasospasm was caused by a cath procedure. The Cardiologist put me onto calcium channel blockers which stopped the spasms and after a few weeks he took me off the medication. I've been fine since then. They had to do this because I can't tolerate nitrates.
Avatar n tn Ephedrine is known to cause coronary artery spasm. Depending on how long the spasm last, one can have a heart attack related to it. This is why patients with this condition should always carry nitroglycerin with them at all times.
Avatar n tn The goal of treatment is to control chest pain and to prevent heart attack. The pain is relieved by a medicine called nitroglycerin (dilates coronary vessels). You have been prescribed norvasc and that should relieve any chest pains. Norvasc is in a group of drugs called calcium channel blockers. It dilates blood vessels and slows the heart to reduce blood pressure and the pain of angina. Calcium channel blockers may be needed long term. Medications may also include beta-blockers.
1098952 tn?1270309713 For instance, many HCM patients have chest pain and shortness of breath—a common symptom of coronary artery disease that is treated with nitroglycerin. If a person with HCM were to take nitroglycerin, the symptoms would worsen and the nitroglycerin could even cause a catastrophic deterioration in the person's condition".
Avatar n tn If it ONLY has #3 on one side and nothing on the other, white and round, according to drugs.com, it is Nitroglycerin .3mg - however, it would be best to double check with your pharmacist - they'd be able to tell you for sure what it is.
Avatar n tn I realize we are lucky he is still here and thankful for medical technology. I am just concerned that this will forever be a constant worry for him. Any suggestions of how I can help him. Also I asked his MD about having nitroglycerin to have on hand and he said that this wasn't necessary??? Should I insist that we have some available?
Avatar m tn The doctors just did an ECG and say all is good. Is this possible? She is on constant Nitroglycerin and Morphine prn. Should she get a second opinion? What other procedures could she have done to take away this pain? She says the pain is getting more frequent and stronger. Thank you for your responses.
Avatar f tn All I know for sure is that your son is addicted to speed (that is what Adderall is, in case no one ever told you). As for his poor performance in school, he may not be a good student with or without medication. Also be warned that Adderall affects growth and puberty. I would not put a child of mine on this drug if you put a gun to my head, no matter what the diagnosis. And ADD is over-diagnosed, mostly by pediatricians who are not specialists in this field of medicine.
Avatar n tn Apart from this you should be on maximal medical therapy including beta blockers, ace inhibitors, aspirin and plavix as well as a statin. Is you heart function preserved after the heart attack? It is possible that your shortness of breath is secondary to systolic dysfunction and not only pneumonia. In fact, the so called pneumonia you had could have been congestive heart failure all along and not a bacterial pneumonia at all.
Avatar n tn Once a person is measured/tested for an IOL implant (meaning axial length, curvature, etc), how long are those measurements good for? In other words, how soon should after the measurements should surgery be done for optimum results, is it: One month? Two months? Three months? Thank you.
