His circulation has worsen over the past year.
Avatar f tn High concentrations of GGT are found in the liver, bile ducts, and the kidney. Hence kidney and urinary problems could be causing the high GGT level. Greater-than-normal levels of GGT may indicate: congestive heart failure, cholestasis (congestion of the bile ducts), cirrhosis, hepatitis, liver ischemia (blood flow deficiency), liver necrosis, liver tumor, high alcohol intake, use of hepatotoxic drugs (drugs toxic to liver).

I have my 24hours urine test, the result is as follows.. urine volume 2.50 L/24hr Urine protein 6 mg/dL urine protein excretion 150 mg /24hr creatinine 120 umol/L creatinine clearance 128 ml/min 97- 137 Do you think the above specification indicates that I have contracted a kidney disease?

Avatar n tn hey, dialysis is tough, Ive been a kidney patient for 6 years now, and am learning the ups and downs of the disease. Its tough, good luck. Creatinine increase could mean two things : 1. inadequate dialysis or 2. protein in diet... Generally, once kidney failure is detected and a need for dialysis is determined, they look at numbers other than creatininie like Kt/V and other lab values to make sure that he is safe and getting the proper dialysis.
Avatar n tn Actually kidney function will remain in the normal range until most of the kidney function is lost. Lots of people with kidney problems only have RBC and protein in their urine in the early stages.

171927 tn?1294023723 Usually the first signs of kidney damage are protein leakage in the urine. I have fsgs and one kidney and I have protein in my urine all the time. You can do a 24hr urine test for total protein. That is a good way to see what is going on with your kidneys. The reason he wants the first stream is to test your urine when you have had less or nothing to drink or eat. Plus exercise and other things can give you different results. That way its more like a fasting urine test.
Avatar f tn This really measures the level of protein in your urine and would really help the doctor to determine if you need to follow up in any way. If your protein is high you may want to see a specialist. Your doctor would be able to determine if it is a problem. Best of luck!

Avatar m tn The effect of dietary protein restriction on kidney disease is the subject of debate. If you have hypertension, diabetes, or coronary disease, it is important that you control these to prevent further deterioration of your kidney function. smoking cessation and adequate nutrition are also important. It would be good to check for proteins in your urine and know the glomerular filtration rate to assess the degree of kidney function impairment. ( http://www.aafp.org/afp/20041115/1921.
Avatar n tn A serious body builder eats six times a day, so taking extra protein is hardly likely to cut into nutrients. However, body builders can pay a severe price by trying to get bigger. We've seen this with speed to help them endure longer workouts, steroids, and too much protein, which promotes kidney damage.

541196 tn?1293552936 Hi there, I am hoping someone can help me with tying some symptoms and tests together so I can talk to my dr. who is already overwhelmed by me. I have been having reoccuring kidney/flank pain that last a week or more. Dr. is never sure if it's a kidney infection or kidney stone or something else. Urine test shows presence of blood AND protein. Urine is cloudy off and on when pain is present and often when pain is not present as well. I am 31 years old. Female.
Avatar n tn I am 45, have never had high blood pressure in fact it sometimes can be low, and I also do not have diabetes. There is no kidney disease in my family that I am aware of. However some routine bloods showed I had an egfr of 54 ! (Panic) my GP however told me when looking at my results that "yes no problems your kidney function is normal!" It was only after I asked if he was sure that he said oh well we will repeat them and you just need to drink more.
Avatar n tn hi and welcome....truth is Vets know very little about nutrition. cats need protein, even now studies are finding high protein is even ok for cats with CRF. so don't you worry about getting too high, as long as all the ingredients are balanced. and they are with commercial foods, its homemade diets that you have to be careful with. I will send you two excellent websites that will answer all your questions about nutrition...
Avatar f tn For the past 2 years, she has been on Cyclosporine and Ketaconazole and it has controlled her itching, scratching and yeast buildup. Unfortunately, it has contributed to her kidney problems. She has quickly moved to Stage 3 kidney disease. We originally attributed her failing kidney function to her food. We have been feeding her gluten free food because of her allergies, but they have a high protein and sometimes higher sodium and phosphorus content.
