High protein and kidney damage

Common Questions and Answers about High protein and kidney damage

protein

Avatar m tn While i may have bloating, tummy pains and rumbling of gas moving in my intestines etc, i have also been diagnosed with high protein in the urine, doctors say is caused by damage to the kidney, letting more albumin out than usual. They attribute this damage to the high blood pressure i am suffering. My question is: could the increased gas pressure from aerophagia enter the kidney and cause this physical internal damage, and/or augment the increased BP.
Avatar n tn glybride and due to a hospital stay we were informed that he now has high pressure and he is in the beginning of kidney failure because his creatinine level was 5.2. Before we left the hospital the level came down to 4.6 and his blood pressure was down to 145/80. Now taking blood pressure medicine also but was taken off the metformin.
Avatar m tn Albumin and total protein. Levels of albumin — a protein made by the liver — and total protein show how well your liver is making proteins that your body needs to fight infections and perform other functions. Lower than normal levels may indicate liver damage or disease. Bilirubin. Bilirubin results from the breakdown of red blood cells. Normally, bilirubin passes through the liver and is excreted in your stool.

Avatar m tn His creatine is high, RDW SD is high, and his protein is high (tested by urine and blood). Most everything else is beyond low (calcium, lymphocyte, hematocrit, albumin levels, neutrophil, hemoglobin). He is throwing up daily. He now has a persistent cough (which doctors cannot figure out why). He can't climb the stairs to go to bed without needing his oxygen once he gets up there. His circulation has worsen over the past year.
Avatar n tn [1] Stage 2 Mild reduction in GFR (60-89 mL/min/1.73 m2) with kidney damage. Kidney damage is defined as pathologic abnormalities or markers of damage, including abnormalities in blood or urine test or imaging studies.[1] Stage 3 Moderate reduction in GFR (30-59 mL/min/1.73 m2).[1] British guidelines distinguish between stage 3A (GFR 45-59) and stage 3B (GFR 30-44) for purposes of screening and referral.
Avatar m tn If the kidneys are not working properly, these substances may build up in the blood. Elevated creatinine and blood urea nitrogen levels are likely evidence of decreased kidney function. Additional tests to evaluate your kidney function better may include glomerular filtration rate as well as urine tests to check for protein or red blood cells. I hope this helps. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I have had kidney stones before and I wonder if they may have caused permanent damage to the kidneys and therefore are causing the protein. And for turberculosis I dont have any other symptoms that would point to tb. Not that I am aware of anyways. Right now the only symptom is chronic trace amounts of protein in my urine. On the dipstick I think its usually between a plus one and plus two. My doc does not want to investigate until I am no longer pregnant.
1527017 tn?1291671470 Urine protein testing is used to help evaluate and monitor kidney function, and to help detect and diagnose early kidney damage and disease. If the level is high, the doctor may order a secondary test to determine which proteins are being excreted and in what quantities. Greater than 1200 appears high. However, rereading your post I am unsure if you are mixing the tests urine protein against urine keytones?
Avatar m tn Too much protein is not good for organs and can do damage. Usually, if the protein is high, the body excretes protein through the eyes. People who wear contact lenses, will see their lenses turn yellow due to this. Concerned, but not overly worried.
171927 tn?1294023723 Usually the first signs of kidney damage are protein leakage in the urine. I have fsgs and one kidney and I have protein in my urine all the time. You can do a 24hr urine test for total protein. That is a good way to see what is going on with your kidneys. The reason he wants the first stream is to test your urine when you have had less or nothing to drink or eat. Plus exercise and other things can give you different results. That way its more like a fasting urine test.
Avatar m tn This causes localized damage to microscopic kidney structures and can manifest as painless hematuria that is off and on. IgA nephropathy is confirmed after examination of kidney tissue obtained via a renal biopsy. This condition has no effective cure and is managed with steroids and control of blood pressure and cholesterol. Omega-3 fatty acids have been proven to slow the damage caused by this disorder and also reduce cholesterol levels.
Avatar m tn Hi, that means that kidney damage has been done to a certain degree possibly resulted from your diabetes. A kidney ultrasound and biopsy should be considered.
1094587 tn?1375999710 The most common cause of proteinuria is kidney damage resulting from diabetes and hypertension. Others could be due to urinary tract infections, immune disorders, trauma and cancer. Some of the chronic infections such as tuberculous kidney may require (IVU / IVP) intravenous pyelography / urography for diagnosis (as well as urine culture for tubercle bacilli.). Discuss these options with your consulting doctor.
Avatar n tn A serious body builder eats six times a day, so taking extra protein is hardly likely to cut into nutrients. However, body builders can pay a severe price by trying to get bigger. We've seen this with speed to help them endure longer workouts, steroids, and too much protein, which promotes kidney damage.
Avatar m tn I drank a lot of stevia for a few weeks, and read this could damage kidneys. Im just hoping its not bad. Stressing and needing some advice.
Avatar m tn 2) Are creatinine and phosphourus better indicator of kidney functions? Should I be concerned with ~190 mg total protein. 3) I do have one kidney stone. Does that cause total protein increasing? 4) Is total protein in 24 hours a better indicator or protein in mg/dL a better one? I did notice that my 24 hour urine measures ~ 2,500 - 2,800 mL, since I drank a lot of water to mitigate kidney stone issue. My plan is to keep monitoring.
Avatar n tn I would recommend consulting with a kidney dietician. High sodium diets with high protein and dairy foods can over work kidneys already overworking due to impaired functionality. Food can either be our medicine, or our poison. Anything to reduce the extra workload of the kidneys is beneficial!!! I wish you both well!!
