neck

Avatar n tn so yes, statistically, your chances of developing head and neck cancer from hpv is significant compared to those who dont have hpv 16. and honestly, all you can do is try to take good care of your body and diet.....the rest is up to genetic dna and things beyond your control, so, try not to stress about things you cant control.
Avatar m tn Unfortunately, there is no HPV-based screening test approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to identify men at risk of head and neck cancer, the same way a Pap smear identifies women at higher risk of cervical cancer, says the health letter. Thus, men should stay alert for early signs of disease and seek immediate evaluation, since with standard treatments, cure rates are 75 percent to 80 percent.

Avatar m tn com/id/50388546/ns/health-cancer/ Besides obesity, the report points to another potential growing cause of cancerHPV. The report finds that two cancers on the rise, head and neck cancer and anal cancer, are caused by HPV. “HPV-associated cancers accounted for 3.3 percent of all cancer cases among women and 2 percent of the total cancer cases among men diagnosed in 2009,” the report reads. That adds up to 21,000 women and more than 13,000 men diagnosed with these cancers.
Avatar m tn After reviewing various studies that have been done on oral HPV, there seems to be a clear link between HPV and oral, head, and neck cancer. I believe the American cancer society also supports this link. That being said, ~18 months ago, a female friend of mine performed oral sex on me twice within about a 3 week period. I learned 6 months later that she had an abnormal pap, and tested positive for high risk HPV (not sure which type). That brings me to the following questions: 1.
Avatar n tn Welcome to the forum. I'll try to help. There has been substantial media attention in the past 5 years about oral HPV (HPV-16 in particular) and its relationship to some oral cancers, some of it quite alarming. Some of the attention has referred broadly to "head and neck" cancer, but that's a broad category and really only one type, cancer of the throat, actually is related to HPV-16 and on the rise. But the bottom line is that the risks of cancer are extremely small.
Avatar f tn http://www.cancerhelp.org.uk/help/default.asp?page=5193 http://www.rdoc.org.uk/hpv.html It would not surprise me that it is the causative agent for many oral, head and neck cancers. Of course, not the ONLY causative agent, but an important one. It's simple: if it can cause cancer in the cervix, than also elsewhere. Some companies have progressed already with therapeutic vaccines against these cancer causing types.
Avatar f tn I regretfully had unprotected oral sex with 3 guys within the past 3 years (1-once, the other two between 4 to 5 times), and I'm afraid I have Head and Neck Cancer. I, now, understand how unsafe oral sex is and will for sure make better decisions going forward. However, I'm afraid I have ruined my life as I have been having issues in my mouth.
Avatar f tn articlekey=225677 Human papillomavirus is associated with about 44,000 new cases of cancer in the head, neck, anus, or genitals, according to the CDC. About 25,000 of those people with an HPV-related disease are women and 19,000 are men. Considering the millions who perform oral sex, these are really low numbers. 4. I have talked about it with him, and given him the facts. We have been avoiding oral sex until my next pap, taking multivitamins, and we’ve both stopped smoking marijuana.
Avatar f tn Thanks, I just saw a positive video on this site that concluded that people with head and neck cancers caused by hpv responded better to treatment than otherwise. My doctor has actually told me that my GERD was caused by overeating, but I did not start suffering until the same year that I was diagnosed with hpv. I think they may be related, but I am the only one concluding that. Thanks again.
Avatar m tn My great worry now is that is this sore throat related to hpv as hpv can also cause head and neck cancer. I will be glad if someone can help me on it.
Avatar n tn Dear Doctor, I just watched the Today show and they had a study about HPV and that the number of head and neck cancers has tripled and anal cancer has doubled due to HPV. They stated that all cancers have gone down and the HPV related ones have gone up. Can you comment on this? My worry about acquiring or giving someone oral cancer has just skyrocketed.
Avatar m tn My advice is that you ask the question in the real doctor's Forum STD, doctors with long-standing experience of just HPV, use the search and search on "oral hpv" or "oral cancer ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 239123_tn?1267651214 H. Avatar m tn thank you for reassurane one the reason i was so worried when you look on line and see my symptoms are connected to head and neck cancer like sore throat and ear pain.
Avatar m tn Low-risk HPVs, including HPV-6 and HPV-11, induce benign hyperproliferations of the epithelium such as papillomas or warts which rarely progress to cancer [76]. High-risk oncogenic types such as HPV-16 and HPV-18 are associated with squamous cell carcinoma. HPV-16 and HPV-18 are capable of transforming epithelial cells. This transforming potential is largely a result of the function of two viral oncoproteins, E6 and E7, which inactivate two tumor suppressor proteins, p53 and pRb, respectively.
Avatar n tn One day I ran across an article linking HPV, oral sex, and an increased risk of head and neck cancer. I immediately notified my girlfriend and we researched the topic in the online medical. My girlfriend has had clean gyn visits since and she decided to get the HPV vaccine. We also decided to stop all sexual activity until she was finished with the vaccine. Within the past few months my girlfriend finished the vaccine and we have been taking it slow physically.
Avatar f tn In 2005, a research study at the College of Malmö in Sweden suggested that performing unprotected oral sex on a person infected with HPV might increase the risk of oral cancer. The study found that 36 percent of the cancer patients had HPV compared to only 1 percent of the healthy control group.Another recent study suggests a correlation between oral sex and head and neck cancer.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know if tobacco and alcohol are still thought to be cofactors in oral hpv cancer? Do most people with oral hpv have a weakened immune system?
Avatar m tn Hello Doctor, I began seeing articles pop up a few months ago talking about the rise in head/neck cancers due to HPV, specifically HPV-16. Many of the articles and studies done on throat cancer due to HPV seem to implicate oral sex as a major risk factor. I began to get worried about my risk factors after reading so many articles and thinking about my sexual past. I have only had a sexual relationship with one girl, around 6 years ago when I was still a teenager.
Avatar m tn Today I watched this program and was shocked. I was more concerned with getting cervical cancer in the future. Apparently HPV can lead to neck cancer. This worries me as I have been with my bf for 2 years now and engage in various activities including oral sex. I also have a lump at the back of my neck which has been there a few months but have dismissed it. Im also worried i may have put him at risk. Some advice would be nice please.
Avatar f tn what tests did they do to find out you had hpv related cancer of the tonsil
Avatar f tn Okay, most people with Oral HPV don't stick around here to share the end results so I'll try to. We're all scared to death of Oral Cancer. I've been having some symptoms which highly suggest Oral Cancer. Risks: I've performed unprotected oral sex on 3 males (just don't do it, I was dumb as hell). Oral infection with HPV would have been within the last 3 years. No smoking or drinking. Symptoms: 1.
