Avatar f tn Does anyone use decongestants (Guiefenesin found in cough syrup & cold meds) to help CM to be a good consistency? I heard it helps the sperm get through more easily. A friend of mine was TTC for five years and her husband had low motility. She started taking cough syrup and within 6-12 months, got pregnant and miscarried a few weeks in (in Nov.) & now is 5 weeks pregnant again and everything is looking good. I have been TTC for two years and am wondering if I should try it. Is it safe?
Avatar m tn For a cough, try something like guaifenesin, like Robitussin Severe Congestion Liquagels or Mucinex. Avoid dextramethorphan, like Robitussin DM. It is okay to treat the symptoms of your cough, but if you are getting symptoms that point toward bacterial infection requiring antibiotics, make sure you see your doctor. Examples of symptoms to watch for are fever, coughing up colored phlegm, pain in your chest when you cough, shortness of breath, or any symptoms lasting more than 10 days or so.
Avatar n tn I have random urine drug screens and random blood screens for alcohol. Am wanting to take Tylenol sinus congestion medicine. The ingredients are acetaminophen, guaifenesin, and phenylephrine. Will any of those ingredients caus a positive drug or alcohol test?
979826 tn?1389036358 Hi Molly, I don't know if this is still relevant for you but I have chronic sinus pressure/congestion and it I am certain that is the cause of my chiari related headaches. I had the decompression surgery two years ago. Most of my symptoms are better. My neck is bothersome quite often, but I don't know if it is related to chiari or the fact that I have two cervical discs that herniate a couple times a year.

Avatar f tn If the guaifenesin breaks up sinus mucus, it stands to reason that it will break up the mucus in your stomach. I got a wicked case of gastritis from mucinex. I deduced this was the reason why.
Avatar m tn I'm not sure if anything can be done at this point, but I figure I should ask. This has been so constant that I almost forget it's unusual. For as long as I can remember I almost always have some congestion, and usually at least a mild sore throat. A year or so ago I finally went to an ENT, she said I had alergic rhinitis and prescribed fluticasone. 6 months later I went back because I still had constant congestion and usually a sore throat.
4916735 tn?1360986597 I am a hypothyroid patient and I have a cold with sore throat, coughing and congestion. What medicines over the counter can I take?
Avatar f tn In that case you need a mucus thinner/expectorant. Buy an over-the-counter preparation that has guaifenesin, preferably only guaifenesin. Take a tablet and drink a full glass of water. It helps greatly. In fact the worst episodes I have with asthma involve serious congestion. You can also start using natural anti-inflammatories. These help greatly and thee are no side effects. As to diet, be very careful about sweets and too much starch. These cause a proliferation of Candida albicans.
Avatar n tn I've had a small cough for about a month. It started with a cold, but the cold symptoms have long disappeared. I only cough a few times (basically till I can't anymore) and sometimes I feel some congestion, but I don't cough enough to move it.
Avatar f tn What's safest to take otc medication for sneezing, sinus drainage and sinus congestion, I was told Sudafed but not exactly which one considering there's like 40 different ones.
Avatar f tn Have any of you ladies experienced sinus problems early in pregnancy? I am only 7 dpo but have been having sinus congestion. I know it's not a cold just a stuffy, runny, & sneezy nose. I know with my first pregnancy I had congestion but I don't remember when it started as we were not trying with #1 so I wasn't paying attention since I didn't even know I was pregnant at first.
Avatar m tn I have had troubles with sinus for about 2 years now. It got way better after I moved out of Delhi. Almost cured. But the sinus journey in Delhi was quite agonizing and interesting at the same time. I would say your question is justified and the same used to be my question at one point of time. But I was clear about the answer. YES it is.

Avatar f tn Major: Facial pressure, congestion, nasal obstruction, a runny nose and a reduced sense of smell. And, Minor: Headache, fever, halitosis, fatigue, dental pain, cough and ear pain. Headache, while not uncommon is classified as Minor only because it is a relatively insensitive and non-specific symptom, not because it is unimportant to the patient. Note how few of the above symptoms your husband has experienced.
Avatar n tn Agree with Resilient_Mimi. Most likely the "added congestion" is just the breaking up of congestion that was already there. Guaifensen is a safe expectorant and should help considerably. Water is also great for helping to thin and expell mucous. It sounds like you may need a second round of antibiotics though since it has taken this long to start breaking the gunk up. Be sure to call your doctor on Mondy to check in and let him know how you are doing.
Avatar m tn me when I asked him if I could get a red mark from a sinus congestion...is that common, really happen that much to have redness with sinus problems...should I be concerned, or just treat the sinus infections/congestion with over the counter medications and antibioitcs (when needed) as I have been doing. Thanks again.
Avatar m tn Have you tried using a Nedi pot with a saline solution to help clear your nasal passages? You can probably pick one up at a local health food store if you want to try it. Yeah, it's sort of gross and a bit tough to get used to, but it did wondesr to clear congestion for me.
Avatar m tn Please avoid chilled food stuffs since you seem to be allergic to cold that may be causing nasal congestion and sinus problems. Please go for CT scan of head and X rays of paranasal sinuses, and consult an ENT specialist and physician for diagnosis and treatment. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!
Avatar f tn I have had chest congestion for a week. I also have gotten a headache a couple times. Bad Coughing at night. I'm 35 1/2weeks pregnant. I've been taking robitissin cough and congestion and Tylenol. It helps but it's still here. Should I see/call my ob/gyn or see a regular physician?
Avatar n tn Get yourself tested by your doctor or have them refer you to an allergist to get tested for what you are allergic to. My favorite over the counter medication for allergies is Zyrtec, I don't have any reactions to it whatsoever and it works faster than Claritin does for me. The doctor may check you for rhinitis, which for the lack of better words is having very little to no lining in your nose, which, in turn causes the mucus to just kind of run out all over the place.
Avatar m tn I just moved to Denver from Chicago. Right before we left, I could tell I had a sinus infection, as I have a long history of sinus issues. I also have stomach issues, history of a couple ulcers. A couple of ENT's have told me I have obvious signs of GERD, though I don't often have indigestion, sometimes I can taste acid in the morning. Anyway, I saw a doc when I arrived in Denver and she gave me Biaxin for the sinus infection. Only it doesn't seem to have cleared up.
Avatar f tn I recently saw my ENT for horrible sinus congestion. During the exam it was discovered I had a few nasal polyps growing and a lot of swelling in all sinus cavities. The doctor gave me a steroid injection and perscribed a new nasal spray, Zetonna. This nasal spray is an aerosol powder instead of liquid. I have used it for a couple days and have noticed that the congestion has gotten worse. Shouldn't the congestion be getting better with the steroid shot and nasal spray?
Avatar n tn I went to the doctor 12 days ago was told I had bronchitis and asthma Got z pack and prednisone and prednisone shot. Not any better - now slight cough, headache, congestion, dizzy and flushed and at night wake up all sweaty.
Avatar m tn my doctor prescribed oxymetazoline for my sore throat . he said i have sinus congestion but i am breathing through my nose with no problem. he said to use the nasal spray and continue taking sudafed to dry up my sinuses.
