Avatar n tn Auto- immune disease does NOT mean that your immune system just decides to go crazy and starts attacking itself and the body it is supposed to defend. It means that medical science, doctors, labs and the entire medical system either cannot are do not want to verify that your immune system is attacking a pathogen within a particular part or organ of the body. There a number of pathogenic infections that initiate MOST of the so-called autoimmune diseases.
Avatar f tn Elaine Moore tends to believe that immunotherapy (allergy shots) makes Graves Disease worse, and can possibly bring on the Graves Eye Disease. She recommends that allergies be treated with the cortisone-type nose sprays and antihistimines instead, because of the nature of an autoimmune disease. I was about to start shots, but now I am reconsidering. Does anyone have information on this subject? Thanks!
Avatar m tn m a 70-year old man, 50 pounds overweight, with emphysema (quit smoking 15 years ago) and Graves Disease. A few months ago I began dating a 68-year old woman, and recently we have begun talking about becoming sexually intimate (neither of us has been active for 17-18 years). However, she informed me that she has high-risk HPV (both HPV 16 and 18), recently had laser surgery, and in fact, has had that procedure about every two years for the last 15 years.
Avatar f tn Has anyone else been diagnosed with both Grave's Disease and Hashimoto's Disease? About 15 yrs ago I was put on thyroid meds, very low dose, but was never diagnosed with Hashimoto's. Took it for about 3 yrs and then my dr said my reading was fine and took me off of it. Now 15 yrs later everything is out a wack with EVERYTHING and I've been diagnosed with Grave's Disease. At this time the Grave's is winning out and messing with my heart.
Avatar f tn One thing to keep in mind that ANY autoimmune attack is directly related to a weak immune system and if that is not fixed pinpointing ANY treatment - medically or alternatively soley based on thyroid treatment will be difficult. Its not just thyroid levels - its the body and knowing what you lack in the immune system can sometimes balance the endocrine levels back out.
Avatar n tn -) In MS the immune system attacks the myelin that coats nerves in the central nervous system. The resulting damage is demyelination. There are other causes demyelination, but MS is the most common.
Avatar m tn My doctor said that I have high protien level of 8.3 and I have also have an auto-immune disorder, he advised me to re-test at 9 months in additional 4 months to make it conclusive. It is possible because I have a weaker immune system and a high protien level that my body has not developed anti-bodies yet? because the test doesnt look for HIV itself it only looks for the anti-bodies. My doctor refused to order me a proviral DNA and Nuclic Acid Viral Load tests.
Avatar f tn There are antibody tests to determine Hashimoto's thyroiditis and Graves Disease For Hash's TPO and Tgab For Graves TPI Best Regards FTB4
Avatar f tn Similarly, sarcoidosis of the thyroid gland may develop in response to an established thyroid disorder including Gravesdisease, nodular goiter, and thyroid cancer. Patients with Gravesdisease may also have concomitant conditions of sarcoidosis affecting the lungs. Patients with systemic sarcoidosis may also develop sarcoid lesions in various organs including the thyroid gland.
Avatar n tn Had some blood work done within these two weeks, followed by more bloodwork, was sent to a specialist and was told that I have Graves disease along with Hep C. Needless to say I am surprised and overwhelmed. In the past three days I have started on Tapazole, 5mg a day, and I am still getting hives this whole time, along with increased fatigue. In the past 6 years I have developed allergies (hives) from many antibiotics, where before the only allergies I used to experience were seasonal.
616450 tn?1228433627 So I ask my doctor and he says, yes you still have graves, but you should be ok now....what does that mean? Once you have graves, you always have graves? And like you said, what if my immune system starts on another organ and this one I really need to keep. Guess we can do with out some organs, like appendixes, gallbladders, thyroids...ext.
377600 tn?1225163436 When I did a lot of research on my thyroid gland, I found that scientists are looking into viewing Hashimoto's and Grave's disease as one disease--Autoimmune Thyroid Disease or Autoimmune Thyroiditis. Why? The immune system attacks both sufferers. In fact, I was given a Grave's diagnosis the first year and Hashimoto's the second year--after my gland finally died. Scientists see them as polar ends of a disease spectrum.
Avatar f tn I wasn’t anoerexic just built small and short so weighing 85 lbs then was normal. I was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism in June 2008 and I also have Graves Disease, I now weigh 110 lbs, I gained that 15 lbs within 6 months, that sounds skinny to most people but I used to NOT gain weight no matter how much I ate before I had a thyroid problem so I now exercise and watch what I eat since I can easily gain weight.
Avatar m tn In any sort of way, is it possible that a poor immune system can cause fainting throughout someone's life?
Avatar f tn my son was a newly diagnosed "graves disease" pt. he was given tatazole tablet 5mg. to be taken after breakfast for one month, what are the side effect of tatazole, the things he have to avoid and if you can give me more/additional information about the disease. thanks!
Avatar f tn my symptoms include insomnia, severe fatigue, anxiety, bouts of depression, poor concentration, memory loss, bruising easily, dizziness, nausea and graves rage and weakened immune system (sick often). the problem is that i've recently had a blood test that read normal at 5.1 but i still suffer badly with all of these symptoms. i always thought that these were caused by the hyperthyroidism and would ease up or even cease when i stabolised my thyroid. is this normal?
Avatar f tn No -- toxic nodule(s) are thyroid nodules that are independently producing excess hormone and causing hyperthyroidism. Graves is another cause of hyperthyroidism where the immune system "tricks" the thyroid into making excess hormone.
Avatar f tn The most common forms of autoimmune thyroid disease are Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and Gravesdisease. Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (also known as chronic thyroiditis) may lead to hypothyroidism, while Graves’ disease is usually associated with hyperthyroidism.
Avatar f tn t work for us. I have had Graves for 16 months and my immune system is fine, no colds or cold sores, etc. Hope that this helps.
Avatar n tn Food ingredients like gluten can make our own immune system begin to attack our own body. Medicine has simply been naming the disease based on the location of the attack (Celiac disease is the GI attack; Graves and Hashimoto's are thyroid attacks; Rheumatoid arthritis is a joint attack; Psoriasis is a skin attack; MS a nervous system attack on myelin; etc. When the adrenals are low there is a "stressful" reason. Stress is broader than just worry.
