Common Questions and Answers about Glucose meter that talks

glucose

Avatar f tn These are the times to test 1] preprandial fasting [nothing to eat or drink [except water] for 8-10 hours] - this will provide an insight on how much glucose your liver dumps in anticipation of your awakening energy needed. 2] preprandial [before meal] - this will provide a baseline measurement against how the foods you consumed affected your glucose levels 3] postprandial [2-3 hours after meal] - this is when glucose from foods you consumed plateau in your bloodstream.
Avatar f tn You might want to do a little more research before switching to another meter, which can be both expensive and annoying. If you're not washing your hands thoroughly before every measurement, the inaccuracy of your meter might be caused by the fact that the it picks up on traces of glucose left on your skin. This will explain why the tests are inaccurate specifically when you measure after eating. If this is the case, getting a new meter is a waste of money and will not solve your problem.
Avatar n tn I heard that the meters we use at home to test our blood read anywhere from 10-20% high. Does anyone know if this is correct?
Avatar f tn See your doctor for glucose [blood sugar] testing to rule out diabetes. Thyroid disorders can affect pancreas insulin production. Insulin is needed to control your blood sugar. The glucose tests are: OGTT - Oral glucose test. You are given a sugary liquid to drink. Fasting - Simple blood test A1c - The gold standard for diabetes testing "the little monitor thing" Home glucose [blood sugar] meter. Geeks say glucometer, everyone else the former. "It said my level was 155.
Avatar m tn It's good to see that you are trying to manage your glucose levels b4 they get out of control. An OGTT requires you to be sedentary 2 hours post test. Being active 1 hour post defeated your "homemade" test. See this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glucose_tolerance_test Q: "What can be the normal glucose level after 3-4 hours lunch or dinner time" A: Glucose peaks 2-3 hours after meals where the normal value is <180 mg/dl and the optimum is <140 mg/dl.
Avatar f tn In your first thread I mentioned that the FDA set manufacturing guidelines for home glucose meters at ± [plus/minus] 20%. This means your 70 mg/dl reading could be 70 mg/dl or it could be as low as 56 mg/dl or as high as 84 mg/dl. Home meters give an approximation not a true reading of glucose levels. Since your 100 mg/dl reading two minutes later falls out of this range, the questions remaining are: 1. How old is your father's meter? 2. Do the test strips have an expiration date? 3.
Avatar n tn 161. I was diagnosed with Impaired Glucose tolerance, and to my research that means pre-diabetes. I bought a store brand glucose meter and tested on several occasions, to which my highest reading was 210 after meals, and 59 fasting. My maternal grandmother is the only known person in our family to have diabetes (type II). I carry glucose tablets if I feel low, and have eliminated all sugars except for some carbohydrates, in fear of losing weight.
Avatar m tn My doctor uses a diffrent number than the one I get on my meter, what is that number as opposed to the one on the meter? And what is a good number for me to be at using his numbers after my blood tests? I am a 53 year old male, and my doctor said my number was 9.8, where shoul I be?
Avatar f tn Use your home meter to test your glucose levels. If you're having memory issues start a log - date/time/dose - so you have something to reference in the future.
885280 tn?1289562555 Anyway I looked on the box that the glucose meter came in and the exper. date is 12/2009. I wonder if that could mean the numbers are off because like I said before I almost pass out when I hit 70. With the information you gave me it makes alot more sence. I have never had a A1c test. I plan to ask my doc to give me one when i go back on monday. As for proper weight LOL I have put on 20lbs last month. This is really suprising sence I have been the same give or take 4lbs for the past 5 years.
Avatar m tn See Dr as soon as possible for bloodwork. Also you can purchase a glucose meter at any pharmacy to check before then. But you will need a Dr to tell you if it is def diabetes or not.
Avatar f tn The other day, I did two measurements of sugar blood in a row, (same finger) seconds appart and the glucose meter showed a difference in the numbers.
Avatar f tn s interesting that you question the accuracy of your glucose meter for I was reading the September 2008 issues of Consumer Reports that rated both blood-pressure monitors and blood-glucose meters. Only one blood-glucose meter scored excellent overall and also scored the highest for consistency- the Johnson & Johnson Lifescan OneTouch Ultra Mini. The Ultra Mini was followed by Ascensia Contour, ReliOn Ultima (WalMart), and Accu-check Compact Plus.
Avatar m tn I am diabetic and I forgot my meter at home and one of my co-workers that is also diabetic offered me to use hers. I used a new lancelet and strip and used her meter. A couple hours later in an unrelated conversation she told me she had hepatitis when she was younger and now I am concerned with the risk of transmission. I was reading at the CDC website and they make is sound that is very possible. Any wise word of advice?
Avatar m tn Are you concerned about the upward trend in your readings? If so, assuming that you did the testing with a "home" blood glucose meter, and that you tested at the same time each day, your readings are well within the accuracy range of the meter.
Avatar n tn I saw where LifeTrac finished beta Testing a glucose meter that doesn't use blood or isn't a continous meter like the GlucoWatch. Is this real or just some Internet Hoax? Life without pricking would be nice ....
Avatar f tn 5 a1c is also not diabetic or even pre diabetic. most likely meter is broken.
Avatar f tn I tested my glucose about 5-10 minutes after eating yogurt that had 17 grams of sugar. Before that i had a yogurt drink that had about 14 grams sugar about 3 hours before the glucose test, could the yogurt i ate right before cause my glucose to reach 176? or am i pre-diabetes?
Tbd Hi. So, a glucose meter using a finger tip prick or a continuous glucose monitor is best for checking blood sugar. Of course, that's after you are diagnosed with diabetes. Prior to that, blood work ordered by your doctor will reveal your sugar levels. https://diabetes.
Avatar f tn I am using Accu-check aviva meter. The test strips code is 505 and that appears on the meter before it gives the prompt to place blood on strip. The strips expire 1/31/2010. Healthy foods have been grilled chicken, veggies, fruit, etc. I am 5'5" and 145 pounds, 28 years old. One of my concerns with the doctor is that i gained over 15 pounds in a months time and I have not got the weight off (this was in July). I have always stayed around the same weight +/_ 3 pounds.
Avatar f tn When you have an actual average glucose obtained with OneTouch or other meter, the following formula will give an indicated A1C. (Actual average glucose + 2.52)/1.583/100 This should be used to compare to your actual A1C obtained from the lab.
Avatar m tn But when my blood was tested abit later my glucose was normal. Im not overweight at all, I dont eat that much but i do have another autoimmune disease. Anyway I checked my BGluose with meter yesturday, it was after eating but I hadn't eaten much because i cooked some meat and then it was off so all I had was a couple of small potatoes and a bit of salad, and my reading was 7.4. I dont normally check it, but its never been that high before. I know its not that high, but should I be worried?
Avatar n tn Your symptoms sound as if you are maybe getting low blood sugars. Does your mother have a glucose meter? Maybe try testing your blood on it-just to give you piece of mind.
Avatar m tn It was actually the pre-surgery screening that caused the A1C test to occur. On top of that, for 10 days about 6 weeks ago I was on Prednisone. The docs seem to be discounting all that and believe the A1C still to be accurate. At the office, my first reading 2 hours after breakfast was 132. I've been testing upon waking, before dinner, 2 hours after dinner and getting: 105 or so waking, 95-100 before dinner, 130-135 2 hours after dinner. These all seem normal to me.
Avatar m tn That happens because your meter (all meters) are only 80% accurate or have a 20% error. so your 88 and 82 reading are the same.
Avatar f tn I've recently been diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and started testing my blood glucose at home with the One Touch Ultra 2 monitor. The test strips that I've been given are pre-coded, so I do not have to do anything to my monitor prior to testing, other than insert the strip.
