Avatar n tn Pet Diet plays a major role in influencing the effectiveness, pet response and ultimate outcome of chemotherapy in dogs and cats diagnosed with cancer. Cancer cells alter your pets body’s ability to metabolize dietary nutrients, including carbohydrates, fats and proteins. The effect of cancer on dog and cat glucose or "blood" sugar metabolism is most dramatic in pets.

Media Tells a One-Sided Story (OMNS, August 20, 2008) Vitamin A "pushes," "promotes," and even "incites" cancer growth, say the headlines! Is this yet another instance of vitamin bashing, or are you supplement-takers killing yourselves? Let's take a look.

6452556 tn?1381422100 Glyburide is in a class of medications called sulfonylureas which stimulate beta cells within the pancreas. The beta cells are responsible for responding to spikes or drops in glucose. When you eat a meal, your blood glucose will increase which activates your beta cells to release insulin to then lower your blood glucose and vice versa. When you have diabetes your beta cells may lose some or all of their ability to tightly control blood glucose.

Avatar m tn and third, a functional extracellular matrix must be synthesized by the cells to have the right properties, and cartilage cells prefer to use unmodified sugars - like glucose and galactose - to synthesize its own precursors. If you are a consumer, I would suggest saving your money for something else; if you're looking to make money by selling hyaluronic acid, it can be isolated easily and cheaply from any cartilage from any animal and sold at a sufficient mark-up to make you rich.
1829282 tn?1325591658 Glucose is the only fuel normally used by brain cells. Because neurons cannot store glucose, they depend on the bloodstream to deliver a constant supply. This blood sugar is obtained from carbohydrates: the starches and sugars you eat in the form of grains and legumes, fruits and vegetables. The only animal foods containing a significant amount of carbohydrates are dairy products.

WBC casts are found in various types of nephritis 12) RBC - 0-2 / hpf • Occasionally found in normal persons; could be due to exercise, trauma, bleeding or other more serious pathology 13) Bacteria - Moderate • Due to infection Urine analysis is indicative of a urinary tract infection.

Avatar m tn s own defense system (the immune system) attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas.
Avatar m tn Keep in mind that your liver plays an important part in the bodies regulation of serum glucose levels, but this process is pretty complicated and not well understood. Also, many people with diabetes have fatty livers which can cause mild elevations. So you will need to work with your doctor to figure out what exactly is going on in your case. We can only guess here with the numbers you've provided.
Avatar n tn Thanks very much. But i have a doubt. You said that Ketones is formed in absence of glucose when fat is broken down for energy. This means if sugar is more, then ketones must not form. Or precisely, A diabetic patient must not have ketones in urine. This fact is confusing me. Please explain me. Also good news is that diabetes is under control thanks to Insulin injections, Amount of ketone has been also decreasing by half. She is recovering well and fine.
Avatar n tn There was recently reports on a procedure done in Brazil on kids as young as 14 using stem cells which has reversed the diabetes of 12 of 15 of the kids in the test. It is a procedure which is not allowed in the US because of how dangerous it is. It is also only possible for people very early in their diagnosis who are still in their honeymoon. This is a very dangerous procedure, and it's not a cure for all. There does create the hope, though, that a cure for all is possible.

Avatar n tn The body’s digestive system breaks food down into glucose, which then travels in the bloodstream to cells throughout the body. Glucose in the blood is called blood glucose, also known as blood sugar. As the blood glucose level rises after a meal, the pancreas releases insulin to help cells take in and use the glucose. When people are insulin resistant, their muscle, fat, and liver cells do not respond properly to insulin.
20620809 tn?1504362969 Basically, there are 2 types of carbohydrates - simple carbohydrates, which are those that convert to sugar quickly increasing glucose levels, which in turn increases insulin levels. Insulin is often considered the "fat storage" hormone because whatever glucose (sugar) isn't used right away, is shuttled into fat cells by insulin. These include the high glycemic foods mentioned above - white potatoes, sugar, flour, macaroni, etc.
Tbd The pancreas stores the insulin until it is needed to move excess glucose out of your blood. Insulin unlocks the cells in the body to allow extra glucose into them for energy. Extra glucose that isn't used for energy is moved by insulin into fat cells for storage. If you eat too many carbohydrates over the years, your cells become more and more resistant to insulin and it takes more and more to keep your blood level down.
362971 tn?1201987034 you are correct in your assumption that not everything that happens in vitro will be seen in vivo (living subject) as well. Same applies to the gap between animal in vivo studies and human in vivo studies. i think one can see in-vitro studies as "proof of concept" studies: the researcher looks at certain compounds, develops a hypothesis how they might interact with the virus, and then tests this thesis in a first in vitro test.

Avatar n tn Hi Kumar, I am not a doctor, therefore I cannot answer your question in any scientific/medical terms. Your best bet would be to check with a doctor or peruse professional medical literature to find more specific explanations. My understanding of insulin resistance is narrowed down to the basic concept, which is that in insulin resistance patients the muscle, fat and liver cells don't use insulin properly causing excess glucose to bulid up in the blood.
Avatar m tn A1c is the amount of glucose that is stuck to red blood cells. the higher the A1c the higher the BG. since red blood cells live about 90 days the A1c is an average of your BG for 90 days. the symptoms you mention I have never heard of for diabetes. despite what the "media" say weight has little to do with causing diabetes.
Tbd This means that it is rapidly metabolized resulting in a rapid increase in blood glucose. This in turn leads to the rapid release of insulin which performs the role of "escorting" the glucose into your cells in order to produce ATP. Simply stated, ATP is what fuels our bodies. However, an individual with type 2 diabetes mellitus does not produce sufficient insulin or is not capable of utilizing endogenous insulin in order to facilitate the transport of glucose into the cells.
Avatar n tn It is known that many diabetics, particularly ones who are tightly controlled, can lose their warning symptoms of hypoglycemia, but i have never heard this blamed on any particular type of insuln. A number of studies have been done on this issue, and one released a few years ago linked the problem to frequency of hypoglycemic episodes and the body's emergency response to them when they are not fixed quickly.
