Avatar n tn Quite a number of studies indicate Glucophage reduces insulin, testosterone and glucose levels -- which reduces acne, hirsutism, abdominal obesity, amenorrhea and other symptoms. In one study conducted at Virginia Commonwealth University, 24 obese PCOS women were given metformin or placebo. The 11 women who received the metformin experienced a reduction in insulin levels, which slowed the activity of an enzyme in the ovaries that stimulates excess production of testosterone.
Avatar f tn The different methods of hair removal are shaving, chemical depilation by using depilatory creams, temporary epilation by plucking, tweezing, waxing and permanent epilation by electrolysis, thermolysis and laser hair removal. But if the hair growth is excessive then hirsutism has to be ruled out. Hirsutism is usually caused by hormonal imbalance and in women PCOS is one of the leading causes of hirsutism and infertility.
Avatar f tn I took birth-control pills so that I can have a normal period but then my Doctor prescribed me to take Glucophage 500 mg twice a day after food but it has side effects like dizziness, nausea, low blood pressure and diarrehea... I went to pharmacies and asked about the medicine ( Glocophage), they say its good but it is not making me feel good. The last pharmacy I went to suggested that I should take Glucophage XR. I still didnt take it, Im still using Glucophage.

182352 tn?1231183410 my OBGYN just prescribed prometrium for low progestrone, and metformin ( the generic form of glucophage), due to my body not processing sugar properly. the prometrium bottle says DO NOT TAKE WHILE PREGNANT. i have read up on this & it seems to be a very common & helpful drug to take during early pregnancy. has anyone taken both, or either 1 alone while pregnant? my 1st pregnancy was a breeze & i hate taking anything during pregnancy. thanks so much.

Avatar f tn I wanted to ask all of you about your experience with hirsutism. I'm fair skinned and have a mild case - a smattering of dark hairs on my chin and upper lip, but tons--and I mean TONS of hair everywhere on my body, but it's not coarse and dark, it's more the soft, vellus kind. And it's not that real short, hardly noticeable peach fuzz everyone has. It's long, like several millimeters, and very noticeable.
Avatar n tn Dhea-s (or perhaps Testosterone alone would suffice.) P.C.O.S. can cause hirsutism (and a number of women who suffer hypothyroidism, also have PCOS). As can adrenal problems. I would ask your doctor to take a look into your hormones (Estrogen, Progesterone, Testosterone...), if only to put your mind at ease. If he/she is unwilling to...you CAN do this on your own: http://www.healthcheckusa.com/lab_tests/The_Roby_Institute/The_Roby_Institute_Female_Series_option_A Best!

Avatar n tn But if there are excess body hair then hirsutism needs to be ruled out. Although hirsutism in not regularly found in males but it is not always so. Adrenal tumors and dysfunction are the commonest causes of hirsutism in males. Adrenocortical tumors are almost always malignant in patients who present with hirsutism. The other common cause is of Cushing’s syndrome. I suggest you to consult an endocrinologist in that case.
Avatar n tn T NEED MORE INSULIN AND TO PREVENT ME FROM GAINING WEIGHT. I THOUGHT THAT GLUCOPHAGE WORKS ON YOUR LIVER AND PREVENTS IT FROM RELEASING GLYCOGEN-WOULDN'T THAT BE DANGEROUS FOR ME IF I NEEDED THE GLYCOGEN DURING A POTENTIALLY BAD EPSIODE OF HYPOGLYCEMIA? I HAVE ALSO BEEN TAKING AN ACE INHIBITOR FOR ABOUT 7 YEARS (WITHOUT PROBLEMS) TO PREVENT RENAL HYPERTENSION (I HAVE HAD TYPE 1 FOR 23 YEARS) AND THE DR. TOLD ME I DIDN'T NEED IT AND TO DISCONTINUE ANY ACE INHIBITORS.

If anyone has any advice etc I would be so grateful.

20890199 tn?1573389176 If you have slightly higher male hormones, this would be detected and is a sign of PCOS. The hirsutism is because of that when related to PCOS and other symptoms could be acne or thinning hair. Another very telling diagnostic test is a vaginal ultrasound actually looking to see if you have cysts on the ovaries. This article talks about all of this for you to review https://www.webmd.com/women/do-i-have-pcos#1 Are you able to schedule an appointment with a gynecologist?
Avatar f tn ve heard saw palmetto and licorice helps, but I wanted to know what you ladies use personally and what works best. I have hirsutism, terrible acne and I am overweight. I also believe I am prediabetic, as my grandmother on my father's side had diabetes and my mother, so it runs in both sides of the family. (I also believe my grandmother had pcos and my father has the male version if there is one. I thought I read that somewhere.
