Avatar n tn I feel I can identify with your body pain. Mine started 2 years ago and is all over the body but most consistent in the legs. I have no numbness or weakness at all but sometimes the burning and pain are so bad, I wake up at night moaning!. So far I have had CT scans of the brain and the entire body, blood tests for various disases and for cacium or magnesium deficiency. No abnormalities found. The doctors don't know what else to do.
Avatar n tn Could the Niacin I took still be causing this or did the Niacin trigger something in my body? I was never allergic to shellfish in the past. What else could be at work here?

Another function of NADH is its ability to help transform an amino acid called tyrosine into the important brain chemical dopamine. Dopamine is involved in mood, energy, sexual drive, concentration, memory and muscle movement.

Avatar n tn Extended release niacin is arguably just as good as any drug on the market in terms of HDL and LDL effect. It can be tough on the liver but if you have normal liver function then its a legit alternative to statins (my father in law's cholesterol used to clock in at about 270 and he had the same reservations as your husband about drugs - niacin has worked very well for him - his cholesterol is now sub 150 and has been for 10+ years).

Avatar f tn Fortunately my lipids have never been bad and my larger coronaries are clear but the lipids are only a piece of the total cardiac picture and the possible side effects of meds far outweigh my other risks.I know you'll have the liver tests done as per your doctor schedule.Good luck.
Avatar m tn Honestly, I am not surprised by the increases of mental illness and psychotic disorders in the western world because of how the culture is socialized and by the food eaten. The way western food is processed is a shame...much of the food eaten in developed countries (not all, and not always though) is devoid of nutrients. Not to mention that the food of today is chemically different in many regards to the food of 40 years ago. GMOs, pesticides, bioaccumulation, etc.
Avatar f tn I have never heard of niacin affecting the body in a bad way especially pertaining to the liver and thyroid.
Avatar n tn need help. i have been on vytorin for 4 years and on routine blood tests, my cpk has been in the 500-700 range for all 4 years (2 blood draws a year). I am asymptomatic. This past Jan, i added "flush free niacin" to my morning meds/supplements, and in July i noted my cpk was 1000. Still asymptomatic. In the past, I stopped working out for a couple of weeks and stopped statins for 2 weeks, and when rechecked, the CPK's were still in the 700 range.
Avatar m tn red skin and feeling hot, this is due to the increase in hdl that opens up vessels and this is actually good even if you may feel having red skin and feeling hotter is strange, no worries about this by the way you may also try ezetimibe since the recent news of entry interference on hbv and no sdies from this drug, while i d not try statins
Avatar m tn Definitely the fan is a HUGE help, along with restricting your diet on the items vicki mentioned. They went on for me for quite a while but it stopped and I'm sure it will for you too. I honestly just figured it was all the toxins getting out of my body in any way they could and that meant through my skin with all that sweating. It's probably not very scientific but it made me feel a little better about it! Hang in there - and congrats on the clean time! Well done!
Avatar m tn For about 15 days i've been experiencing numbness all over my body, plus some pins and needles. Everything my body touches it just doesn't feel the same its less sensitive. I first notice these symptoms 15 days ago after a night of heavy drinking. I've been drinking on the heavy side for about 2 years. So does this sound like polyneurpathy? And is it reversible with alchol abstinece and vitamins?

Avatar m tn If you want to lower your triglycerides, try taking Carlson Lemon Flavored Fish oil, a tablespoon twice a day, this will help to lower it, and is also good for any inflammation in the veins and arteries. Also, try Niacin, this has been known to help too. Kamy, I do not know what 2.05 would be if converted, I am used to seeing it the other way.
