I was put on fosamax about a year ago for. In Oct 2011 my teeth started falling out. I always had good teeth until then. Just had 4 pulled. The day after I had a bad infection in the top of my mouth. Its been 3 wks mouth is just now getting better. My question is. Is fosamax the reason my teeth falling out.
My wifes orthodontist recommended a consultation with a periodontist prior to him starting the procedure for braces. My wife is a 65 year old in good health who has taken FOSAMAX for 5 1/2 years. She wants to get her teeth straightened. The periodontist has recommended a procedure to reinforce the gums prior to the braces. This has added an additional 6K to the price and about 3 months to the total time to straighten the teeth.
Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
I took Fosamax for only 7 weeks but am having prolonged diarrhea and esophagus problems. Gas build up is hard to release. Burps are few and far between causing a build up of pressure in the esophagus. I, too, am looking for help and guidance. My doctor has sent me to a GI specialist, but the first appointment I could get is in July.
MY FRIEND HAD TO HAVE INVASION DENTAL WORK, BUT WHEN THE DENTIST DISCOVERED THAT SHE WAS ON FOSAMAX AND HAD BEEN FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, HE INSISTED THAT SHE TAKE A HIGHLY SOPHISTICATED BLOOD TEST. SHE HAD DIFFICULTY FINDING A LAB THAT WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE TEST AND ONE THAT PERFORMED THE TEST. THE RESULTS OF THE TEST INDICATED THAT HER JAW BONE WAS NOT SUFFICIENTLY STRONG[?
I have taken fosamax and actonel and have had stomach problems and aching bones. My doctor is thinking about the yearly injection of reclast. How safe is it and will I have more problems with my bones aching - I can't sleep at night a lot from the pain.

Does anyone know any adverse effect with Fosamax, a medication for treating osteoporois or brittle bones? My regular doc (who knows I have HCV) prescribed it to me.
I know that the liver processes all drugs and reading the side effects is scaring me. I have stage 2 fibrosis and failed the traditional interferon/ribavirin treatment already.
Have a-typical trigeminal facial pain after taking fosamax. Surgeon said Fosamax caused this condition and pain.(fossy jaw) I also had to have a bone implant in my jaw.How do I get rid of this constant painful condition? I Hate taking pain meds, but I'm grateful I get some relief. Pain in jaw, ear,eye, forehead, neck, nose all the whole left side of my face and head.
Throat and chest pressure /constriction dizziness are now another pressing concern.
I stopped taking Fosamax before the extraction (I had taken it for less than 4 years) and am not going to take the drug again. Is there concern that I will have a complication because of the Fosamax? I had hoped for a bone graft and/or socket perservation...
However, a sixty year old acquaintance told me that within a year of starting Fosamax, she began losing her teeth. She said that her father was a dentist and that she had never had a problem with her teeth before.
So I told my doctor that I wanted to increase my intake of calcium and do a wait and see on the Fosamax. She told me that she's not worried about me for now but for what may happen to me in 20 years.
I believe there is a link between prolonged use of fosamax and oseonecrosis of the mandible.
Who might I contact for positive confirmation?
I am a "heart patient" and have been taking Fosamax to improve bone density. Lately I have seen several things that implied I might not should be taking Fosamax. I would enjoy hearing some opinions on this matter.

dental work - there are blackbox warnings about osteonecrosis of the jaw (bone death) The mother of a woman that I worked with took Fosamax for a few months and her teeth began to loosen - an oral surgeon had to pull teeth from a quadrant of her mouth and add some sort of bone replacement.
The oral surgeon who did my root canal 2 years ago told me (reluctantly) agreed that the bone drugs are becoming controversial.
After taking Fosomax for several months I noticed a snapping sound with pain in my jaw when I opened my mouth wide to take a bite of a sandwich. I asked my doctor about it and she said TMJ. I also said that I feel pain deep within my ear and she said that would be caused by the TMJ. When I asked her if the Fosomax could be causing the problem she said absolutely not. She asked if I grind my teeth at night and told me that I may not know that I'm doing it. I really don't think that I am.
She had a bone density test indicating, osteoprosis for which she takes Fosamax. Her teath were moving apart.For this, she had an oral surgery during which her teeth were scraped near the root. Now has that done every 3 months. (This initial surgery was around the time the saliva started) She has had a root canal recently.
I have been on Fosamax for almost a year . In the last few months I have developed really bad heartburn. Zantac helps for a few hours but then it starts again.
My mom is taking Fosamax [Alendronic Acid], she is taking it exactly as directed and is still getting terriible burning in her esophagus. She is really suffering. She says there are no alternative medications she can switch to.
Are there any remedys she can take to help ease the burning in her esophagus? Supplements, Vitamins, anything like that?

DEXA scan showed increased bone density loss to that of a DEXA scan done before bc (ordered by gastro due to 30+ yrs of steroids). BC surgeon prescribed Fosamax and Calcichew/Vit.D3. A bone scan showed osteo arthritis in both hips, hands and feet. No meds prescribed. I am on weekly injections of 12.5 mg methotrexate for Crohn's.
My GP suggested I stop the Arimidex for 3-4 weeks to see if the pain diminished, which miraculously it has.
I have IBS> I started to take fosamax once a week (for osteo). did so for 4 weeks. it seemed to bother my esophagus (bumping, reflux) so my doctor suggested actonel. i took one pill a week ago and since have had increasing sensation of a lump in my throat, and like I'm full of phlegm that I can't ever swallow down. I can eat so of course I am swallowing. I'm off all drug right now but throat/phlegm sensations feel settled in, especailly bad at night, and are anxiety provoking.
I wonder why you had osteopenia when so young? Hope you are doing well now.
After a few more days of reading and seeing people's input it seems like HCV contributes to bone mineral density loss but Ribavirin makes it worse. I had absolutely no idea about this either. Interesting that some doctors are onto the problem and it isn't on the radar for others. It makes sense that problems with teeth are related too. TX causes significant BMD loss in men too.
