Avatar f tn m thinking it turned into rebound congestion. Some days I have 0 congestion and some days I have some. Recently I started to cut down on the afrin (I went from twice a day to once a day) and I'm using Flonase. I don't have terrible congestion, but enough to bug me. I'm managing though. Recently I looked inside my nose and saw that it was red on the left side along my nasal wall.
Avatar f tn Do not use any other nasal spray. If your nose starts running excessively move to an OTC non-drowsy tablet for nasal congestion and take only one tablet a day.
Avatar f tn Flonase, is that for nasal congestion? I have tried it for chronic night time nasal congestion... it "sort of" works. Has it worked well for you, bump aside? I love Afrin, but it can not be used more than a few days in a row. I have pushed it too far and have suffered some rebound. I understand Flonase/Generic does not risk "rebound".
612551 tn?1450022175 I suffer from night time nasal congestion and frequently use an Afrin-type nose spray once at bedtime... I also use saline spray and try to get by using just that for a few nights - not sure what I used the night of the nose bleed. I also note I am on Coumadin (blood thinner) due to a heart condition. I have no history of nose bleed problems, and have no previous occasions that I sought medical help to stop.
Avatar f tn It depends on the type of nasal spray too. Saline and Flonase can be used every day. And if your doctor cleared you for those, that's fine. Try to avoid Afrin type nasal sprays, I cannot confirm if they are safe during pregnancy or not, but the issue with this type of spray is that you can only use it for a few days at a time.
Avatar n tn In January I had a lot of congestion on my right side and a severe headache. I went to by GP and was given 10 days of an antibiotic, when it did not subside, she extended it another week. Still no progress, so had a CT scan and was told there was complete opacification of right maxillary antrum with soft tissue density extending into nasal cavity and anterior ethmoid air cells. Also enlarged right maxillary antrum, possibly suggesting a soft tissue mass such as a polyp or papilloma.
Avatar f tn What kind of nasal spray? Is it a prescription like Nasacort or Flonase or the OTC stuff like Afrin? If it's Afrin that is not supposed to be used all the time, it's really bad. If your nose is bleeding, that could be an infection or maybe from the spray. I'm not sure about the blood pressure. I think you should try to wean off the Afrin. You are probably having what's called *rebound* congestion. Read the label on it. It tells you not to use for more than 3 days.
Avatar f tn I went to the ENT today. He told me I have a deviated septum, a narrow passage and a lot of congestion. He told me that Flonase and nasal sprays won't help me much. He wants me to do a sleep study. He asked if I feel tired during the day or have headaches in the morning. Which I do sometimes. I do not want to wear a C-pap. I was told there was a surgery. Anyone know about it?
Avatar m tn You can also use nasal corticosteroid sprays like nasocort or flonase. Decongestants may also be helpful in reducing symptoms such as nasal congestion, but they should not be used for long periods.Steam inhalation can be used instead of nasal holding. Cromolyn sodium is a nasal spray (Nasalcrom) for treating hay fever. Eye drop versions of cromolyn sodium and antihistamines are available for itchy, bloodshot eyes. If the symptoms are intense then you can go in for immunotherapy.
Avatar f tn ” With “never drainage/congestion/fever” and “never gets congestion, sneezing, post-nasal drip, etc” and a borderline normal CT scan, the evidence for chronic sinusitis is scant. The American Academy of Otolaryngology (ENT) classifies sinus symptoms as follows: Major: Facial pressure, congestion, nasal obstruction, a runny nose and a reduced sense of smell. And, Minor: Headache, fever, halitosis, fatigue, dental pain, cough and ear pain.
612551 tn?1450022175 My personal interest in this Community is my chronic night time (sleep time) nasal congestion. I have tried the generic for Flonase (fluticasone) which didn't help much, not ow Astepro (not a steroid) which is a little more help, but none are as good as the over the counter Afrin (or similar) which can not be used for long periods. This congestion led me to recognize I have some trouble waking up with a suffocation sensession. .
Avatar f tn Yup - nasal congestion is a common symptom of pregnancy. I would mention it to your doctor though if you often have blood coming out!
Avatar f tn I've never had allergies of any kind. Then I noticed my nose was runny sometimes. Sneezing some. Nothing alarming. Then I woke up and was having trouble swallowing - felt like something was stuck in my throat. Doc said there was tons of drainage - the diagnosis: allergies. I started zyrtec and flonase, and got a HEPA air purifier. I've had that for about 2 weeks. Annnd now I've developed ear infections in BOTH ears due to the allergies, even taking all that and with the filter.
464237 tn?1315670793 The pain went away within two hours yesterday after shots buit woke up this morning and pain is back as well as the post nasal drip. The doctor also prescribed me Flonase nasal spray for the infection but I read the info on it and it says do not take if you have an infection because it is a steroid and it lowers the immune systom. So I'm terrified to use it because I don't want the infection to get even worse. How is it ok to use flonase for bacterial infection?
Avatar m tn I used flonase for a week and got better with my cough and then I stopped. Afterwards my cough came back and I saw a doctor and he told me do not use flonase which makes me cough. I am confused?
Avatar f tn Also forgot to mention they have prescription nasal sprays that can help such as Flonase if the nasal congestion is not getting better.
10404685 tn?1418830427 I've had this problem for a while now and I'm 10 wks and 5 days. I've been using vicks to help and my ears feel like there shut closed but I still can hear. Its very irriatating it driving me nuts.
Avatar n tn The pediatrician has said her symptoms are from allergies so she has been on Zyrtec and Flonase for awhile now. That has helped in the past but for the last 4-5 months she is complaining of these symptoms even when she does not have a cold. He has also prescribed an inhaler that helps when she gets a bad coughing attack but she is still saying it is hard to breath in her throat. I am wondering if she has enlarged adnoids.
1939607 tn?1324289300 yeast infections of the throat and sinus problems (also Flonase side-effects). Almost all mentioned taking Flonase or similar nasal sprays for the initial illness (cold or sinus infection). I believe that people start taking the flonase to help cold/flu/sinus infection, and then it gives us this traveling, achy sore in the Eustachian tubes. I often cough up these dry little patches after a cold, like tiny white scabs.

Avatar n tn There are a lot of steroid nasal sprays that you might react better too. Nose bleeds are a common side effect so a different brand may help better. Others are ayamys, nasacort, or nasonex, plus many others. Nasal rinsing using a neti pot or neil med sinus rinse may also help flush out anything that is in your sinuses and there is a much lower risk of bleeding since there is no medication, it's just pure saline.
612551 tn?1450022175 For reference, I have ongoing trouble with nasal congestion when lying down, sleep time. Afrin and generic work great, but if I use for a week or more I start have sneezing problems. I have other less effective means and use Afrin just a time or two a week when I feel I just can't take it any longer. If moisturizing give something I'll pay extra.. in fact I have on bottle on order. So I can answer my own question in the near future.
Avatar f tn t been feeling well. You can always call and ask your doctor these questions for guidance. Flonase is known to reduce nasal inflammation over time. The best thing is to blow your nose prior to using it and then wait as long as you possibly can before blowing your nose again. The longer you wait, the better chance the Flonase has of being absorbed into your nasal cavity. The most common recommendation is 15 to 30 minutes to wait to blow your nose after using. https://www.webmd.
Avatar m tn Deviated nasal septum, nasal polyps and tumors can also cause persistent nasal congestion. Worms in stool can raise the eosinophil count (a part of the white blood cell count) and thus increase the possibility of nasal congestion. You’ll have to discuss all these possibilities with your doctor. The nasal passages will have to be examined. Complete blood count and stool test may be required. You may need to get X-rays or CT scans too. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Allergic headaches are generalized headache that also presents with nasal congestion or watery eyes. Nasal congestion sometimes lead to congested eardrum as well. This can be triggered by seasonal allergens, such as pollen, molds, but not to food. Antihistamine medication; topical, nasal cortisone related sprays or desensitization injections help relieve the symptoms. Take care always and do keep us posted.
746512 tn?1388807580 I have been using the Neil-Med nasal rinse system for the last 2 1/2 months. It works wonderful after the inital 10 minutes of worsening congestion. I use it at least twice a day, morning and 2 hours before bed (sometimes I need it again after school because I'm congested again).
