Avatar m tn I'm a 27 year old male. I have returned to gymnastics after 3 years out and find that I get severe cramp in the arches of my feet. It seems to occur if I point my toes too hard and for long periods of time. My feet don't seem to be as flexible as they used to be as I used to have a much better toe point before. As I have to train in barefeet, I've also noticed that they can get quite cold sometimes. Can anyone help?

Avatar m tn My mother is a nurse who disagrees with me that you need a structured diet and fitness program from a doctor to truly lose weight. She is giving loads of grief because I want to the lose weight but I have not done any exercising till I have seen the specialist concerning it. I told her I wanted to make the appointment but told me to pretty much run 3 miles and eat whatever I want. I am not a nurse but that does not sound correct to me.
Avatar n tn I have a bulging L5 - S1 that has been causing problems for just over a year now. I've had 4 epidurals, and have been taking pain pills daily. About 6 month ago I started getting really bad upper back spasms, I had an MRI, CT Scan, and Ultra Sound that all came back clear. I got another epidural about a month ago and the back spasms went away (they are starting to come back as the epidural is wearing off).
Avatar m tn Ok so I think I may have ehlers Danlos. Selma perhaps you could give me some insight. 2 of my 3 daughters are hypermobile. I am not very but my wife is (although I show signs of eds). I have had Eds symptoms for over 12 years which I investigated neurologically instead of from a rheumatology. So all my tests always came back normal. I had an LP in 2008 which led to a spinal headache that would not go away for about 4 months. Possibly due to Eds lack of healing.
Avatar n tn A regular program of swimming can often help. In cerebral palsy, the adductor muscles sometimes tighten up and some have surgery to cut them. Swimming is a non-surgical option that helps flexibility.
Avatar n tn At home we continuously tell my new 6th grader (only) child not to talk in class and in the hallway. But we receive notes and oral comments from two teachers that he talks in class and in the hallway after being warned. What can we do at home to encourage him to be quiet and obey when told to be quiet. He's in a Magnet program and you must keep a B average in all subject areas including conduct.
Avatar m tn I have been sore right around both of my gluteus Maximus muscles since December. The muscle is very tight and seems to be restricting the movement of my lower lumbar. It's uncomfortable to sit even for short periods of time as there is a dull pain from my glutes down the back of my legs. I have been to a spinal PT and I temporarily felt better but not much. He focused only on my spine and said my movement was very limited for a 27 year old.
Avatar n tn They consist of stretching and holding different joint and muscle groups for 10 to 30 seconds each. Stretching improves flexibility, and daily stretching is the basis for any exercise program. Strength exercises involve working the muscle against resistance. This can be either with or without weights. Resistance training strengthens the muscle and increases the amount of activity you can do pain-free. Conditioning exercise, also called aerobic exercise, improves cardiovascular fitness.
Avatar f tn t know where you are, but our community college in Portland, Oregon has a diploma program that would be perfect for you. You may consider a "homeschooling," online, or college-style program as it would afford you more flexibility to be with baby more, and give you more time in between classes. If you continue with your regular school schedule, that will be several hours a day you can't nurse or pump.
175734 tn?1225134440 I like gymnastics and synchronized diving. Table Tennis is another amazing sport to watch at the Olympic level.

Avatar n tn Stretching the front and back or your leg to increase the flexibility in your knee. Perform stretching exercises at the end of your workout when your muscles are warm. Stretch the front of your leg in a standing position by bending your knee and raising your foot up toward your backside. Grasp the ankle with your hand to enhance the stretch. Stretch the back of your legs in a seated position with your legs extended on the floor. Fold forward over your straight legs to stretch your hamstrings.
1310633 tn?1430224091 Gabby Douglas just helped the United States bring home its first gold medal in gymnastics since 1996. But instead of talking about her energetic floor exercise or remarkable vault, all some people can manage to talk about is her hair.

1123278 tn?1259756110 I've been informed by my Gymnastics coach, after numerous complaints made by myself, that it's quite obvious that I have shin splints. They hurt...so much. I can't even describe the pain; especially in Gymnastics when you're always running, jumping, ect. How do you get rid of them, if they ever go away? Peace&Patience, Maggie McClure.
Avatar f tn Ok, so I am 13 and came home from gymnastics a little while ago and had to go to the bathroom. When I pulled down my pants I saw this blackish-brownish yhick dried substance in my underwear. I've had discharge for awhile now but never black. Could this be my first period and if it is, when should I expect real blood??
Avatar n tn Treatment is by resting the knee and adhering to a proper physical therapy program. NSAID’s, cross-training activities, such as swimming, can allow an athlete to maintain their fitness while resting the knee. The next step in treatment is a physical therapy program that should emphasize strengthening and flexibility of the quadriceps and hamstring muscle groups. Consult a orthopaedician for confirmation of diagnosis and advise on treatment. Best.
Avatar n tn Hi again Steveman, A few thoughts come to mind -- even tho' you're a teen ;-) Often our summer schedules are different from school-year schedules and it's reasonable to expect to make changes in our diabetes management, too. I'm not sure which long-acting insulin you're taking, but it sounds as tho' it's not Lantus -- one of the newer insulins that doesn't *have* a real peak and lasts about 24 hours.
Avatar f tn My daughter was an highly competitive gymnast for the last 3 years (but has done gymnastics since she was 3). I also coached in the gym. Recently (about a month ago) she quit. It was a family decision due to issues at the gym. She has told me how happy she is with her life now. We (my husband and I) thought things were good.
891073 tn?1241213305 When I was her age my grades were fine but my inattentiveness was lacking substantially. My mom put me into gymnastics, ballet, and tap as well as put me in a physical therapy program outside of the school. Be wary of using the school therapists since some are politically and school district motivated and sometimes will say your child is doing terrible and needs medication.
Avatar n tn She xray-d it and said that she either broke it through the growth plate at the base of the thumb or sprained it. So she put a thumb splint on it and said she can do anything she feels up to doing...gymnastics, soccer etc. The gymnastics concerns me the most with all of the weight bearing activities and knowing my daughter. My question is...Is this protocol for this injury and does it need to be treated differently if it is an actual growth plate fracture?
Avatar f tn Hey!!! I've been doing online classes since January and it's actually really easy!!!! I am actually due any day but I have tons of flexibility with this program....it's completely at your own pace!!! What program are you looking into and where do u live??
Avatar f tn Her heart and spirit has all but been destroyed because 2 days ago the Dr said no more gymnastics. With a full, normal recovery what kind of activities can we expect her to be able to do? Does anyone know? Or does anyone know where to ask? It's hard watching her try to deal with this and any hope we can give her, besides "your symptoms will most likely get better" would be great. She's on a very sharp edge for a very deep depression.
Avatar m tn 2) is it normal to have no and I mean no flexibility. I cannot do any type of movement to the side, bend over etc...without a shooting pain. 3) Whenever I turn at the waist, I get a tearing sensation. Is this also normal after this procedure. 4) The area around my abdomen is hard and every now and then I feel a tightness that takes my breath away. 5) I can't sleep normally. What I mean by this, is where normally you can toss and turn and shift positions while you sleep, I cannot.
