Hi I just want to know what can cause some or all of these combined symptoms, Hair thinning, lost of appetite, a few dark toenails but not all of them, 1 fingernail half light pink half light brown with vertical lines no ridges, wart on ball of both feet and lately some lost of taste (I'm thinking due to thin white film on tongue) I was a Severe smoker until recently when I stopped.

They do not have complete horizontal ridges across them. Sort of like moguls on a ski slope. They are not discolored and it only occurs in those two fingernails. She has had this for close to a year. She's rarely sick and if it was nail fungus I would think it would have spread to her other nails.

What are the reference ranges on your FT3 and FT4? Ranges vary lab to lab, so you have to report them with results. Guessing a little at the ranges, your FT3 and FT4 both look pretty low in the ranges. FT4 often has to be midrange before symptoms are alleviated, and FT3 has to be upper half of range. Iodine deficiency is rare in the developed world, but, yes, it can be an issue if you are deficient. I'd suggest testing prior to supplementing.

I too had it for the last few years. I keep them short now. Just worked on that janky toenail I've had too. Sandal ready. Uhm, kinda. Mine have ridges too. Another thing I kept asking dr about for years. So- does it get better post tx? My iron is a love hate thing. I had to drop it for tx, but try n get it in my diet. I DID find an iron free multiple vit. That way I can kind of control the dose n not overload liver. My.. Chatty me tonight.

Let's see. I'm down .8 of a pound, so "about" a pound, which is a little bit of a surprise because I had some sweets in the last three days. What do the lines look like and are they colored? If you have fingernail fungus the topicals don't work. You would have to take a prescription oral drug (Lamisil) for three months then it kills the nail. I just went through this with my toe nail. The nail is usually yellowish.

Sounds nuerological to me, MS maybe. Dont think that would have anything to do with your nails. Maybe you have two different things going on at once??

They are the same color as nails, not very deep but definitely noticable. These ridges are especially noticable on the bed of my thumbs and also on the toenails of the big toes. Other fingernails/toenails don't seem to have ridges, maybe just a few small ridges on index finger nails.

Even though you are on levothyroxine for months, are you sure that your thyroid hormone levels are adequate to relieve hypo symptoms, one of which can be fingernail problems. If you will please post your thyroid related test results and their reference ranges shown on the lab report, members will be glad to assess the adequacy of your testing and treatment. Also, have you been tested for Vitamin D, B12 and ferritin?

So where to begin? OK.. I have been steadily losing my lunulas(fingernail moons) for a couple years. My left thumbnail lunula is almost gone. Only leaving my right thumb lunula left. The red bands at the tip of my fingernails are getting wider. They look similar to Terry's Nails but the nail beds are not white, they are pale. I've also been developing splinter hemmhorages at the tips in the red bands. I've heard red bands are due to low B12. My B12 is high.

I have been on thryoid medication for a few years now. The doctor says my thyroid hormone levels fluctuates as do my symptoms. My fingernails are the worst and I am so very tired and weak. Even the palps and racing heart can sometimes be due to low thyroid hormone levels. Just because your test results fell within the so-called "normal" range does not mean that is adequate for you.
