i have hard, black brown color skin near lateral nail fold of right hand index finger which is painless(but sometimes can experience a small pain when the area pressed) and kindly check below link for image references.

i don't have any reason for treatment other than ugly hard black skin on my index finger and small pain sometimes.
This area is only about 10 mm in diameter if that, it is near the proximal end of the nail bed a few millimeters below my nail and cuticle, on the side closest to the ring finger. There is no redness, swelling, or irritation in the area or on my cuticle, and I have never to my knowledge injured the area, nor do I remember having an infection there. The nail and and cuticle appear normal to me. The joint nearest the area does not hurt at all when bending.
The index finger is burned on the area near the nail bed including the nail itself, the burn is isolated to the right side of the nail and finger. My question being what will a Doctor do to ease my pain and help the healing process? I am worried being a college student with no medical coverage, that they will simply ask me to keep the wound clean, and give me pain medication, things I can do myself without accruing debt.
About 4 weeks ago i picked with my teeth the skin near the nail and i got a bad acute paronychia.It was the worst i have ever got,pus was coming out ,all the tissue was red and inflammed and it hurt like hell.Even if i touched my fingernail at the end(i have long fingernails) my finger was sensitive.So..today i noticed,i havent looked at my nail closely lately nor at a natural light , i saw that my nail suffered some yellow discoloration as if there was something underneath it.
I think Caryopteris has offered you good suggestions. This is probably due to the shape of your nail and or finger at the site of the in-growth.
The best place to begin is with your PCP. If he/she is unable to treat this or a referral may be necessary. You certainly don't have to tolerate this uncomfortable situation... there are solutions.

About 8 days ago i think my right index finger came into contact with someone elses herpes blister (not 100% sure). I dont believe i had any cuts or openings on my finger, it was on the side of my finger not near the nail. A little over a week ago I was playing catch with a friend and the ball hit my ring and little finger on my right hand. I had a lot of pain in my ring finger and headed to the ER. The doctor said there could be a crack in the joint above the knuckle and slightly towards the side. She splinted it and suggested follow up with the family doctor. I did see him, he took an xray and said yes it is cracked but suggested I use buddy tape and move the finger.
The soreness is over to the side in the soft part of the index finger between the first knuckle and the nail. It hurts if I type or if I press on it in anyway. It also throbs a little and feels hot. There is no detectable swelling or any sort of cyst of any type but the pain has become more bothersome over the last 24 hours. What could be causing this? Should I be worried? I have these red sores(barely darker than skin pigment) on a finger, only one finger. One is about half the size of a dime other is about a quarter. The smaller one is below my nail the other is around near the front slightly higher. Surface texture appears normal but they are slightly hard. Only cause pain with weight or force applied. My finger nail was crushed and halfway down the nail bed, the nail is torn and slightly poking into the cuticle. The nail is still attached to my skin at the top of the nail and in the bed at the bottom. I've had this pain under my middle finger nail for a couple years now and its excruciating....my doctor said soak it in warm water immediately after bumping it which helps take the pain away immensely. She said it is likely a raw nerve and regular soaking in warm water could help. I don't have time to sit and soak my finger often...wish there was a surgery for this. Now my finger is throbbing and in pain without even being bumped:-( at least I know its not just me now.

To geminigirl1963 , the old nail already from 1 week dropped and now the new nail is only cover the half of the finger and it is like it will never grow as it show like my other nails , meaning i am afraid that the process is already finished without letting the new nail grow to full.

The next day I visited the massage place to check her finger for cuts and I could see that she had a hang nail and the skin near her nail was chapped and rough, there was also some skin peeling near her nails. I also observed the mark of a healed cut about 2 mm long on the finger.
I have checked immediately with two of my Doctor friends (a general surgeon & a urologist) over the phone about this situation and whether I should take PEP.
I have a very annoying callus or growth on my right hand ring finger just next to the nail bed it grows to form a hard and rough chunk of yellowish skin and eventually annoys me so much that I remove it either by biting or using nail scissors! When it's the rough skin it doesn't really cause me pain but when I remove a lot of it it it tends to feel rough but soft and starts to feel swollen and sore. It doesn't matter how many times I cut it away it just keeps growing back!

I've had a cut on the tip of my right middle finger near the nail for roughly five months -- I tried to ignore it with the hopes that my body would heal it naturally, but I visited the doctor recently because it still hasn't healed. It's a small but deep cut that's surrounded by some sort of calcium related dryness of the skin. There are some pin-hole size blood blisters on the cut as well.
The nail has hurt and is swollen (from over a year ago) and now the whole finger is turning crooked to the left and turning down. I have pain under the nail like a splinter is there and I can straigten out my nail. I recently went to an arthritis doctor and he did a SED test and everything was alright. He said it was osteo-arthritis evev when I kept telling him my finger nail was sore and I thought there was infection under the nail.
About two months ago my fingernail developed a black mark near the nailbed. It has since continued up toward the top of the nail while changing brownish now puple with the uppermost tip is turning white. I have an appointment in October.It doesn't hurt and does not appear to look fungal according to my doctor. Is October to long to wait? I read that melanoma can develop under the nail.
