Avatar f tn If the infection goes into the bone the situation may only be resolved by amputation. There is a problem with antibiotics because oral antibiotics do not reach high enough concentrations in the toe. Treatment is usually intravenously administered vacomyacin, although the Journal of Infectious diseases January 2011 suggests oral Cipro as an alternative. If osteomyelitis of the bone in the toe progresses to the metatarsals it can mean foot amputation.
Avatar f tn I am not sure how long her thigh has been that way, but what I do remember is that in 2007 she had an x-ray of her left knee and I would think that we would have had an x-ray or an MRI if she had complained of pain or numbness to her toes. She is complaining of pain so much as she complains of numbness to her right toes. The MRI showed the she has an intertwined lipoma into the muscle. The orthopedist stated that is nothing we can do! I am hoping and in need of advise.
572547 tn?1218924130 First, I understand your frustration. Before I found out what my first trigger finger was, I was fully prepared to request amputation because it was making my entire hand useless. I've had 3 surgeries over the past 2 years, freeing 4 fingers and removing a ganglion cyst from one. Did your surgeon send you to physical therapy? You need to keep moving your hands and fingers, despite the pain. Scar tissue (adhesions) starts to form a couple of months out from the surgery.
Avatar n tn Several years ago I was indirectly struck by lightning on my finger. Ever since I have had severe nerve pain. Cold is simply unbearable let alone if I hit my finger on anything. I have been to several doctors and NO one can help me. I have even attempted accupuncture to no avail. I am currenty taking Lyrica, which helps a little, but not much. I have tried topicals as well. I am to the point where I just want my finger amputated. The pain is just too much!! Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn t know extent except what shows on the x--ray. About 1 inch above the paw joint. Let you know after I get more information. Thank you.
Avatar f tn It sounds like you need to get those results reviewed by a second vet, or better yet .. get a complete second opinion. Amputation is a very last resort. Cats do not do well with Amputation, but dogs do. Get a second opinion. You have a right to have those xrays an mri films looked at by someone else. If her CNS is showing some abnormalities then all the homeopathic and scientific medicine is not going to help. I think you know that.
Avatar n tn If there is a vertical fracture extending down to the root, root amputation or complete extraction is the tretment of choice. Also, adjust the occlusion if the problem is not related to infection.
Avatar n tn Go, for a simple X-ray of the finger. If you have a fracture you have to wear a splint. If it is only pain and inflammation, rest and anti inflammatory drugs will do wonders. Take care!
Avatar f tn Diabetes is an excellent guess, although those pinprick pains usually occure late in the process, and aere symptomatic of osteomyelitis, which can be life-threatening and result in toe amputation, foot amputation, or leg amputation. Often these start in the tip, of a smaller toe, so the fact this is a single toe is significant. If the infection migrates to the bloodstream you may have ther patient end up with endocarditis and a pig-valve procedure. All this for a little pin-***** on the toe!
Avatar f tn About 4 weeks ago, I went to my dentist for an abscess that developed on the gum next to this molar. An x-ray revealed infection. I've been on penicillin for 3 weeks and seeing an endo on Friday to have it evaluated. So far, my dentist said I may have to get the root canal redone. When I asked him if this would save the tooth, he said not necessarily. So, if I have the tooth extracted, what can be done to fill the void? He doesn't think an implant is feasible.
Avatar f tn Having toe amputation in two weeks. Anyone know about balance,recoverytime,walking,reehab...Anything. I'M having no success finding info.
Avatar m tn I have been diagnosed with herpes whitlow in my right ring finger...it is a very insidius disease as it is prone to secondary infections and is very costly due to loss of work and topical and oral treatments.Today I start suppression therapy on Valtrex and Zovirax cream if needed. In the last two years I've had at least ten outbreaks and it is really getting me down. Is there any new treatments being researched for this disease?
Avatar f tn I did an x ray image of my hand, but noone can answer me if my finger ligament is snapped, they just told me to rest and ice.... and my finger altho it doesnt hurt when holding still, it isnt getting better... 1 week has passed...
Avatar n tn When they say seeds they mean all of them take it from someone who thought that maybe one wouldnt hurt. Read some of our stories under problems after a bowel resection if you want to see what a possible outcome could be.
Avatar m tn The redness suggests infection (not certain, but possible), and this can easily establish itself in the bone, and from there you will develop osteomyelitis, and may end up with a toe or foot amputation. This problem is worse with those who have insulin utilization problems (diabetes). Toe infections are not to be treated lightly. At a minimum you require an x-ray, and a professional look-see. Podiatrists are the best in this situation.
280418 tn?1306325910 How is your husbands' finger? I also had a glomus tumor on my left ring finger just under the nail bed. I had it removed by surgery and it has now grown back. I was told that this tumor is very had to get completely since it is made up of a bundle of nerves and that there was a possibility that is could grow back. It is now more painful than ever. I bumped it just this weekend on a drawer handle and almost lost it.
Avatar n tn Hello! I hope you get a reply for I am going through the same thing with my 70+ yr old Dad! Told he won't live through amputation so he said don't bother but the gangrene in one area is spreading so quickly! Other areas are dry but I am thinking this is wet! It is getting worse everyday! He has dry gangrene that hasn't changed at all! Hospice is involved now....the Hospice nurse hasn't given you any idea? I am told that sepsis is a possibility....
20920785 tn?1656704759 Hello and welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question. Did you have an X ray of the finger to know that it is fractured? I assume you have sought medical care. Placement of the fracture matters for treatment. Sometimes it is as simple as taping to adjacent finger if it is a stable fracture. If unstable, they will sometimes still secure but immobilize with a splint. Treating hypoplasia which is underdevelopment from birth often involves reconstruction.
Avatar n tn rightt hand ring finger still swellen and still pain after a month is the knuckel broken?

6797951 tn?1384906430 She had a biopsy on 10/14/13 which confirmed Fibrosarcoma. The chest x-ray performed the morning of the biopsy was normal and did not show signs of metastases. They are unsure if it is an injection site Fibrosarcoma because they did not begin keeping record of injection sites until about 1 year ago. The vet said injections/vaccines are not given in the front left limb but whose to say one was not given there in the past. Sophie had her front limb and scapula amputated on 10/28/13.
