Avatar f tn Just contact the local med supplies store and ask them what good prosthetists are available, then get your doctor to write a prscription for the consult and a prosthesis, and it should be covered by insurance.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had a dog with a prosthesis? My Vet is willing to do a partial amputation for a prothesis, but no Vets around here have done this before, and so we're having difficulty finding a Vet to consult with on the surgery of preparing the stump. I'm trying to find the name/number of a Vet to consult- it doesn't matter what State. Thank you.
572547 tn?1218924130 hi please could some1 help me asap ive had the injections for trigger finger and on the 9th of april this year i had the operation ((worst mistake of my life)) now i have a swollen hand my fingers r swollen and im in alot of pain i get bad cramp in my fingers my partner has to massage my hand and help me with alot of things as my hand feels so weak i cant even write a line on a piece of paper without stopping for a break sometimes i cant move my fingers n i get pain from my hand upto my elbow
572547 tn?1218924130 First, I understand your frustration. Before I found out what my first trigger finger was, I was fully prepared to request amputation because it was making my entire hand useless. I've had 3 surgeries over the past 2 years, freeing 4 fingers and removing a ganglion cyst from one. Did your surgeon send you to physical therapy? You need to keep moving your hands and fingers, despite the pain. Scar tissue (adhesions) starts to form a couple of months out from the surgery.
Avatar n tn Several years ago I was indirectly struck by lightning on my finger. Ever since I have had severe nerve pain. Cold is simply unbearable let alone if I hit my finger on anything. I have been to several doctors and NO one can help me. I have even attempted accupuncture to no avail. I am currenty taking Lyrica, which helps a little, but not much. I have tried topicals as well. I am to the point where I just want my finger amputated. The pain is just too much!! Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn My mother is 70, she broke her hip and has undergone a total hip replacement surgery. 3 weeks after the surgery she suffered a dislocation of the prosthesis. Although there is no fracture and the prosthesis is in good condition, a surgeon has suggested that she needs to undergo a further surgery to modify the prosthesis. This is because, as she suffered a stroke 25 years ago, and has a residual hemiparesis on the hip replacement side, the surgeon thinks that dislocations will reoccur.
Avatar f tn A 14 year old with a congenitaly absence of her right hand and forearm upto just below the elbow joint. Her family cannot afford to change prosthesis because of the cost. She was asked to come to orthopaedic clinic after 18 years of age. There is 6 more years. What are options available to improve her quality of life?
Avatar f tn I had an above the knee amputation{the drs called it a resection} with a special limb salvage prosthesis putinto my bone marrow cavity. Ouch. I live with pain 24/7 now , and then I get this new "spot" on my breast. After I had one tumor I feel I can live with anything. A good thing I was tested for metal allergies and I am not allegic to titanium! I did test positive to the cobalt, chromium and nickel hence the pain I live with{or part of it}.
Avatar f tn Having toe amputation in two weeks. Anyone know about balance,recoverytime,walking,reehab...Anything. I'M having no success finding info.
Avatar f tn The surgeon may be getting a CT scan to see whether the prosthesis is too far into the vestibule. If you are having ongoing dizziness this is very important. Good luck with your ongoing evaluation.
Avatar m tn I have been diagnosed with herpes whitlow in my right ring finger...it is a very insidius disease as it is prone to secondary infections and is very costly due to loss of work and topical and oral treatments.Today I start suppression therapy on Valtrex and Zovirax cream if needed. In the last two years I've had at least ten outbreaks and it is really getting me down. Is there any new treatments being researched for this disease?
Avatar f tn com/erectile-dysfunction/guide/penile-prosthesis#1 They really seem to only want to use this though if there is an issue with impotence. Do you get normal erections? The down size to it is that it may decrease your ability to get hard on your own with a natural erection. There are also the risks to consider. For micropenis, have you ever looked into testosterone treatment? That's really the way it is typically treated. Many get additional size from testosterone treatment! https://www.
Avatar f tn My husband had Kerato Prosthesis (artificial corneal implant) approx one year go on his eye. He has already lost vision in the other eye due to an accident. After the implant, he had a fairly good vision for a month or so. Then the scar tissue started growing and his vision was getting blurred. He has had the yagging done three or four times since then. Every 3-4 weeks he has to see the specialists to get this yagging done. Is there a procedure to control or eliminate the growth of scar tissue?
280418 tn?1306325910 How is your husbands' finger? I also had a glomus tumor on my left ring finger just under the nail bed. I had it removed by surgery and it has now grown back. I was told that this tumor is very had to get completely since it is made up of a bundle of nerves and that there was a possibility that is could grow back. It is now more painful than ever. I bumped it just this weekend on a drawer handle and almost lost it.
Avatar n tn Hello! I hope you get a reply for I am going through the same thing with my 70+ yr old Dad! Told he won't live through amputation so he said don't bother but the gangrene in one area is spreading so quickly! Other areas are dry but I am thinking this is wet! It is getting worse everyday! He has dry gangrene that hasn't changed at all! Hospice is involved now....the Hospice nurse hasn't given you any idea? I am told that sepsis is a possibility....
Avatar f tn Experienced surgeons have found that it takes time for them to learn how to put in the ankle prosthesis. It may take many years for a surgeon to gain sufficient experience to perform the surgery predictably without considerable complications. Recent scientific reports (from our own institution as well as those of others) have outlined this problem in more detail. Surgeons refer to this problem as the "learning curve." Fortunately, Dr.
Avatar n tn about what we can, or should, wear in terms of weight, prosthesis materials, etc. I am wanting to downsize but would love to get some guidelines before making the invest again. Following surgery I opted for "D" prostheses but feel I am ready to go smaller now. Pre-surgery, I was a Double D plus so going smaller at first was not comfortablr to my and my psyche :-) Thanks for your input.
Avatar m tn Hi. I assume you are diabetic. How is your Hba1c? Diabetes can cause neuropathy, particularly if your sugars are higher than optimal. Note that normal non-diabetic hba1c is typically 4.6 - 4.8 which corresponds to typical blood sugar ranges of about 70 - 100. People with diabetes are often told to target much higher levels. This can set you up for complications. If your sugars are high would suggest working to lower them (low carb diet, meds, exercise).
Avatar f tn ve noticed that I can hear the prosthesis move when I move my leg. I swing my legs and they make a funny noise. Today I went to an orthopaedic surgeon about another (unrelated) problem and asked him about the pain in my knees. Well since he didn't do the surgery he took a big step bacvkwards and told me that he would not treat my knees. That I was to go back to the original surgeon to report this problem. Sounds fishy to me.
Avatar f tn Stray from those*
Avatar f tn Possibilities that may need to be considered are infections, inflammation, neurovascular damage, peri-prosthetic fracture, wearing of the bearings, loosening of the prosthesis, ligamental/ tendon injuries/ inflammation, osteolysis, synovitis etc. It would be best to get this evaluated by your orthopedician to rule out the possibilities and appropriate management. Hope this was useful. Take care!
Avatar f tn I am looking to find a t-shirt that will fit my dog following a front leg amputation. The sites I've found don't have sizes large enough for my dog, (a big Chesapeake, just under 100 lbs). Any ideas?
Avatar n tn Ortho says I may have to live with it due to all the trauma to my leg. Another ortho commented that the prosthesis my be too large. If so, could that retain the swelling? I'd appreciate your comments. Once swelling was so bad it weeped through my skin. I need some relief.
Avatar n tn I would say it would be a good idea to check it out, you may need a tetanus shot and it sounds like it is infected, put some OTC anti biotic cream on a band aid on it till you can get it checked out, Good Luck
Avatar f tn Hi, my chinchilla, Screetch, had an emergency amputation of his right hind leg approximately one week ago. He remained in vet care until three days after the surgery. He came home with antibiotics and needing to be force fed. My question is two fold. First, will i need to supplement "good" bacteria, to replace those destroyed by the antibiotics?
Avatar m tn In full knee replacement your doctor will replace the knee joint surfaces with a prosthesis to help in smooth movement. The tendons holding the patella is partially detached and patella displaced to one side. Then the joint surfaces are cleaned and a prosthesis placed at the upper and lower end. The components are either impacted on the bone or glued to it with a cement. The patella is brought back in position. The partial detachment will heal with time.
