I've been hsv2 positive for almost a year, also 5 months pregnant.. What's the odds of passing it to the baby.
My doctor said its very unusual to have outbreaks all the time on medication. She has prescribed Famvir for me now. Can you tell me if this is normal?
9-12 days in developed urethritis(swabbed the urethra, neg for gon and chlmd)
12 days in took 1000mg Azithromycin and 3 days of cipro(2x day)
Day 15 stopped cipro and took Famvir for 4 days at 500mg 3x day. Burning while peeing stopped within 24 hours of famvir although the 2nd urine culture prior to start of famvir was neg for WBC.
Day 15 developed a rash and burning in the anus but no lesions. doctor swabs the region and a TZanck smear and both negative.
Daily antivirals are much more effective than condoms at reducing the chance of transmission.
Is it possible to get outbreaks while on treatment? After the initial outbreak which was treated with single-dose famvir, I had no symptoms for 3 weeks except sore throat/adenopathy. My doctor gave me acyclovir 250mg 3x a day, 7 days to see if it would treat the adenopathy and after a few days on it i had an outbreak. He said that was almost impossible to have an outbreak on a treatment dose.
Did you tested for HHV 6 ??
It is know to cause neuropathic symtoms.

I have type 1 hsv genital and oral. I had sex with a girl 2 weeks ago (wore a condom) and took 1000 mg of famvir that night after sex and the next 3 days. I don't think she is being honest with me about type 2. I have had 4-5 days of grueling lumbar and buttocks pain just a week after sex. I can't even stand straight. I now feel warm and I have a headache. Same stuff I had in my initial OB 5 years ago. I'm so scared. My legs feel weak and I am in shock.
He told me to go on famvir (think thats what it says his writing is a mess) when I feel an outbreak coming on. I have a few questions now that I was told I have this.
In the following years (2007-2009) i have only had 3-4 outbreaks. when i get an outbreak i use famvir, 2 tablets at first then 1 every 12 hours for 3 doses. these always worked quickly and the outbreaks were never severe and didn't last longer than a week or so start to finish.
In the last 2 weeks (jan 2010) i had a small outbreak that i immediately took my usual dose of famvir for and it cleared up, almost totally within 5-7 days.
I hope someone can help. I've had horrible recurring pain in my right eye for over a year. Went to Optho. multiple times and was told it was an infected oil gland. I was put on low dose antibiotics for over 6 months and told to apply warm compresses and scrub eye with a baby shampoo/water solution.

It should've been 2 500mg famvir tablets to take 2x/day for 1 day. Is that what you were given or just 1 500mg pill?
d like for us to be able to have oral sex, but not if it will further spread the virus. We are both taking Famvir daily and almost never have outbreaks. I also know that it is possible to spread the virus without an outbreak. Please don't suggest condoms or dental dams - I'd rather just skip it altogether. Also, I know that prophylactics often don't protect against spreading the virus.
i doubt you have developed a tolerance for famvir. I believe cortisone can affect the immune system, and it's very probable that it's causing an ob. The sores in your mouth may be cankers, which are related to stress and immune system overload.
Talk to your doc and see if you can get off that cortisone!
i know that valtrex and famvir are different family of anti-viral's. has anyone had poor results with valtrex and had to change to famvir? i don't seem to be responding to valtrex or acyclovir so i might change.
I have been on 500mg of Famvir for a month as I had pain a while back and just kept taking it. After our sexual encounter I started 1000 mg and for a week have kept that up.
This morning I went to the ER cause I developed the same sort of rash I mentioned before on my fold between my leg and privates. The ER Dr walked in glanced at it and said Candida and walked out. He didn't even look at me for 5 secs. I wonder if it's possible this 'Candida' diagnosis is way off?
I just wanted to know what are the symptoms of herpes if it occurs inside urethra of men or does it occur inside urethra, as i have been through chamdlya test which came out negative a urine culture which also came normal and a urethra swab for culture test which also came negative then the urologist treated me with rociphin 2g iv for 7 days but then after 7 months suddenly on my penis herpes simplex has occured which is now been treated with zovirax 10g ointment and famvir 250mg oral tablets.
Has anyone had better results with Famvir? And does it help suppress transmission like Valtrex does? My Dr thinks the Valtrex might be causing my hair loss so I am switching....
Also my doctor prescribed famvir but I don't have genital herpes. Can Famvir help with penis pain?
i am pregnant and i usually dont take any medication even when i am not pregnant, but i hught i would take it so that i could have my baby naturally, which i cant do if i have an ob. it has kept the ob's away for a little over three weeks, BUT i am due to have my baby on monday and i just got another outbreak! it is so devastating i will more than likely have to have a c-section now so that the baby isnt harmed.
I used to only get an outbreak every 8-12 months, however since I started working full-time I have had 3 outbreaks in less than 2 months. I take famvir 2x250mg at first then 1 tablet every 12 hours for 3 doses and the outbreaks clear up within a week, but it is really starting to get me down and depressed.
My questions are:
1) Can recurrent herpes outbreaks lead to penile cancer? I am worried if the same area is affected by HSV a lot then could it cause cancer there?
