Avatar n tn I take statin and other heart medications. I do not take meat but occassionally take chicken and fish, once in a week. I have undergone neuclear stress test for last three yesrs consequitively and no additional ischemia was reported. Because of me reducing the fat intake my family also ends up reducing their fat intake, as most of the food is cooked for all members. I was wondering whether most of us on this forum, who suffer from blocked arteries, restrict fat intake to such low level?
Avatar m tn no study for its activity on hbv, we do know it has activity but the trial has never started simvastatin lowers hcc 50% and prevents fibrosis/cirrhosis so it is indicated on all hbver, this has thousands of pateints studied for decades to find this data on hcc you better use simvastatin instead other statins, also ezetimibe has in vitro effect on hbv so these are the best choices on hbvers
529224 tn?1400648219 ve been on these medications since the start of 2007 with no side effects which blood tests have continually confirmed. Familial hypercholesterolemia affects 1 in 500 people in many countries, so it isn't that uncommon.
976897 tn?1379167602 Those meds knocked it down to acceptable levels without me doing anything. I then read about sugar consumption playing a huge role in atherosclerosis, and my Doctor even now believes it's probably a mixture of both fats and sugars. So I decided to experiment. I drink LOADS of green tea and had 3 teaspoons of sugar in every cup. I now have none. It tasted like sewage at first though, so had to get used to it. I was also a huge chocoholic. Bar after bar.
Avatar m tn for hcv a 4-12weeks lead in was used so it may be useful for hbv too, emebers had decline of hbsag in the first 12 week and then relapsed so maybe adding intf when ntz has lowered hbsag a bit may work let us know about your hbsag quant, that is the most important, and keep in mind also ezetimibe may help intf response.
Avatar m tn There was an in vitro study on ezetimibe inhibiting HBV DNA production. The ed50 was fairly low and in a similar range as lamuvidine. So it looked very interesting. But in an in vitro study you have a constant exposure to the drug, which is impossible to achieve in vivo. And the cells used are not the same as regular hepatocytes in human liver, with many differences in gene expression and cellular physiology.
Avatar n tn There is a combination drug Simvastatin and ezetimibe that may be better in controlling cholesterol. Discuss these drugs with your doctor. Best of luck to you. Stay positive.
Avatar f tn I live in Canada and I see here that everyone seems to talk about cholesterol numbers in 100s, where here in Canada they seem to use a different system to show counts. Does anyone know how to convert these numbers to the numbers that the US goes by so when I read these posts I can figure out where I fit in? here are my numbers: Cholesterol 3.84 Triglycerides 1.04 HDL 1.37 LDL 2.0 TC/HDL-C Ratio 2.
976897 tn?1379167602 Not a question, just to say how the recession in the UK has affected me. I am no longer allowed to have Ezetimibe prescribed due to NHS cuts. My total cholesterol was 146 when taking this with statins, and my blood test this week reveals total cholesterol of 220 which is a tad above the national average of 212. I hope the higher cholesterol doesn't cause my arteries to start blocking again.
Tbd I have been taking Simvastatin on and off for years. About two years ago my doctor added ezetimibe to my regimen. It has been lowering my bad cholesterol how ever the first of this month I missed taking them for about a week and for the first time in years I felt less fatigued. I do have Fibromyalgia which is usually the cause of my fatigue, but this is a different type of fatigue. I have not restarted either of the cholesterol meds back because I have felt so much better.
Avatar m tn In fact, through medication it has been witnessed in many people that atherosclerosis stops in its tracks and in some people it actually improves. However, in some people it continues to worsen. The problem is, atherosclerosis can be caused by several factors and unless you find the specific cause for your own body, then it will never slow down or stop. If someone smokes and then packs in the habit, their arteries will obviously start to improve to some extent.
645800 tn?1466860955 Vytorin is a combination Ezetimibe and simvastatin and I'm currently taking simvastatin. My doctor is switching my medicine due to my leg cramps to see if that will help. All of the cholesterol "statin" medicines can cause muscle cramps. This one works in the gut to keep your body from getting the cholesterol into your body in the first place.
Avatar f tn also be aware that the big decline will be at 48-72 weeks with your hbv mutations and hbeag negative the difference of fibroscan between 4 and 6 is meanless, you have nothing to worry you may try to see if intf response can be increased by ezetimibe (zetia) or smvastatin.
Avatar m tn 4 I have a compromised immune system and am on truvada, norvir, and reyataz. I have been walking and watching my intakes... I do have a sweet tooth sometimes but otherwise I eat pretty healthy. any ideas?
Avatar f tn Chelation therapy with EDTA has been used in the treatment and prevention of atherosclerosis. Because of the risk of severe renal (kidney) toxicity and lack of objective evidence suggesting therapeutic benefit from EDTA therapy … such therapy should be regarded as investigational and (should be) conducted under carefully controlled conditions in an academic institution by experienced investigators.
976897 tn?1379167602 I had a ct scan 64 slice a year or so ago, and the ct scan software evaluates and provides a score for the amount of soft plaque in each of the 4 coronary vessels and a total score. My total score was over 1000, and the prognosis with that score is projected (20%) to have a risk of a serious heart event within a year So it is possible to have significant CAD and have reasonably clear vessels for blood flow.
Avatar m tn Advicor (lovastatin/niacin extended-release), Simcor (simvastatin/niacin extended-release), and Vytorin (simvastatin/ezetimibe).
Avatar n tn to put it in perspective, some one with CAD should have an LDL under 70 and an HDL over 50. Is there a family history of hypercholesterolemia in his family? If so, his doctor may need to get more aggressive on lowering cholesterol. He needs to be living a healthy lifestyle with a heart friendly diet and exercise as allowed by his cardiologist.
Avatar f tn Crestor is a statin (rosuvastatin calcium) only, Vytorin is a statin (Simvastatin) with Zetia (ezetimibe). Statins work by controlling the production of cholesterol in your liver while Zetia works by preventing cholesterol to be absorbed in your digestive system. Of the two, Crestor is the stronger of the two. In addition, recent trials have shown that adding Zetia does not improve the performance of Vytorin over Simvastatin alone.
Avatar f tn After 12 months of follow up it was found that the LDL-C was around 76 +/- 23 and 110 +/- 30 mg/dl in the atorvastatin and pravastatin group respectively. There was a regression in the CIMT of –0.034+/-0.021 mm in the atorvastatin group whereas the CIMT remained stable in the pravastatin group. It was concluded that marked LDL reduction (<100 mg/dl) provides superior efficacy for atherosclerosis regression at 1 year. More to follow...........
Avatar f tn there was only a study in vitro where simvastatin increased potency of antivirals but no study on its effect in vivo.
