Avatar f tn Less common are headache, dizziness, rash, sleep disturbances, muscle pain, cramps, or weakness. Both simvastatin and pravastatin have the same side effect profile, but it does depend on the individual as to whether one would cause more issues than the other." The only negative I have read about Simvastatin in recent times is a study that showed high doses of simvastatin of 80 mg puts a patient at a greater risk for side effects including muscle damage.
Avatar n tn http://www.medicinenet.com/simvastatin/article.htm This could be an allergic reaction to the drug. It will stop if the drug is withdrawn. You need to inform your doctor about this development. He might want to substitute it with another. It cannot be a time coincidence unless you had the itching prior to starting the drug. You could apply an anti-itch lotion or cold compresses on the skin to soothe the areas.
1616588 tn?1298639117 My muscle cramps have improved. I can go back to driving again. I feel each day I am getting stronger again. I am going to lower my cholesterol by diet. I see the Doctor on Wednesday he will be shock. He's been out of town on spring break with his kids. I just hope and pray I get stronger and stronger. It is scary how close to feeling like I was dieing. To now I feel like I am living. I didn't like the person I was becoming on that darn drug.
Avatar m tn Hi, My partner is a 35 yr old male who for the last 2 weeks has been suffering from severe muscle cramps in is right hand and right foot. It starts with a tingling in his right arm from the elbow downwards which then causes his hand to cramp and lock with the fingers clawing in towards his palm. At the same time, his leg starts to burn from the caf down into the foot and goes into a cramp with his toes turning downwards and inwards.
Avatar f tn Research shows that 61 out of every 1000 patients on 80mg of simvastatin develop muscle problems. I do believe the half life for Simvastatin is quite short, 5 hours or less. If you take 80mg, then 5hours later only 40mg will remain. Another 5 hours only 20mg. So after 24 hours there will only be around 2-3mg in your body which is top up time.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Simvastatin 20mg for about 2 years, but recently my bad cholesterol has gotten very high to where it is elevated. Now, I admit to not being consistent lately with taking my medication; could this be the cause for my cholesterol to skyrocket?
428155 tn?1203688894 in New Zealand), which my GP had prescribed me 2 years beforehand to control my cholesterol level. I stopped simvastatin and all fibrillations have disappeared. As I was taking simvastatin, I was in fibrillation 17% of the time; 1 month after I stopped simvastatin, the level was down to 0%. I am now experimenting with alternative cholesterol control methods: Omega 3 gels, ground linseed, charcoal.
Avatar m tn I am a 62 year-old male who has been taking simvastatin for about 30 years. All of my cholesterol-related numbers are in a healthy range, and I have never experienced any serious side effects (e.g., muscle weakness, kidney and liver impairment, etc.). I have, however, had trouble sleeping for the past several years (perhaps caused by simvastatin, perhaps not). More importantly, I have been experiencing back pain for the past few months and would like to try CBD.
Avatar n tn I think it's more of which one your body will tolerate the best. Different brands seem to show different side effects in many people. Lipitor in some women have produced breast pains or enlargement and even the manufacturers cannot explain that one. Still, I suppose it's cheaper than plastic surgery. Some statins cause abdominal pains in some people, or nausea or serious muscle cramps and even damage.
Avatar n tn I'm on Simvastatin (40mg) which have some nasty side effects, like cramps and muscle spasms. Can you reommend an alternative?

808920 tn?1268057768 At present time I am on Coreg CR, simvastatin, 81 mg. 81 mg aspirin. I was following a low-salt diet at the advice of my doctors but have since been instructed to increase my daily salt intake. I have had a echocardiogram w/bubble test, stress test, several ultrasounds with results indicating that a heart cath is not necessary. My questions are 1. Has anyone experienced skin sensitivity around the left side area and some aching in the ribs? 2.
Avatar f tn I have been taking simvastatin for three weeks since having a Tia but have also had a flu like cold for ten days , I am still having aching flu like pains which I would have thought would have passed by now . Avatar f tn I'm 62, and after being diagnosed with "high cholesterol about 12 years ago, I've been on simvastatin (20mg). This has always been an entirely "preventative" measure. No heart disease, I'm skinny (120lbs), don't smoke, hardly drink. Get exercize. I'd love to stop taking the statin given the data on possible muscle damage and cognitive issues. Without taking the statin my recent numbers are HDL 63, LDL 152, overall 235, with a ratio of 3.7.
Avatar n tn We have been on simvastatin for (wife for 1+ years, me for 2+ years) and stopped about 5-6 months ago - wife still having pains in the butt some dizziness and leg pain, but getting better - I am having butt pain and leg pains, swollen left knee, (but joint pain seems OK on stairs), recovery seems slower than my wife's. But both of us have just been diagnosed with right enlarged renal cysts which were not there before taking simvastatin.
961503 tn?1247059639 I have been prescribed Simvastatin 40 MG and Lisinopril 10 MG for high cholesterol and high blood pressure (1 pill each every day) - I'm on my 2nd day of Simvastatin and will be taking Lisinopril on thursday. My doctor wanted me to not start them both at the same time so that I can see, if any, side effects Sim will have - and once I start the Lisinopril, I can see what different, if any, side effects both pills could have.
645800 tn?1466860955 m currently taking simvastatin. My doctor is switching my medicine due to my leg cramps to see if that will help. All of the cholesterol "statin" medicines can cause muscle cramps. This one works in the gut to keep your body from getting the cholesterol into your body in the first place. Since it works in the gut is why you can't cut, chew or crush it as it has to withstand your digestive juices for a while in order to do its work.
Avatar f tn I'm am a very fit 20 year old male. I work out a lot I do I lot of running and I eat fairly healthy. However I play football/ soccer (I'm from England) and a game of football is 90 minutes long and I can never last the full 90 minutes because I get server muscle cramps around 70 minutes. I've had blood test and all is healthy. I get very frustrated because people I play with, drink, smoke and do drugs and don't get anything like I do. I have had it since I was 15.
