Avatar f tn How is your estrogen and your DHEA-S? When your doc tests your testosterone, does he test bio-available testosterone, and does the doc test sex binding hormones, LH, FSH, to get the entire pic of your androgens and how your body is using the testosterone? Estrogen and testosterone and very very closely related - so it could be that your testosterone is simply converting over to estrogen instead of staying as testosterone. This cannot be controlled really - it just happens.
414018 tn?1268611672 Terrific story! Thanks. : ) And thanks for all your hard work. Is your OVCA estrogen-dependent? Have you asked your doctor about taking anti-estrogen medication? I'm on one called Aromasin. It kills up to 95% of the estrogen in your body. I'm hoping it works for OVCA; it's in clinical trials for it now (it's used for breast cancer at the moment.) And hey, at least you're entering menopause as your winter is approaching in Australia. Happy hot flashes!
Avatar n tn I’m 50 and for my age I would say I’m in pretty good shape. I have 2 thing that are bothering me one is that I’m tiered all the time, I have to take a nap at lunch and I can fall a sleep while in my car at a red light. the other thing that bothers me is when I’m with my wife and I get erect I may loose that erection before we have intercourse. I know I’m getting older but I would like to think that I’m not to old at the age of 50 to still live life.
Avatar f tn Thank you for the encouragement! That's great to hear about your friend with twins. So mine could be twins, too, right? Is there a # people usually see who are having twins? Or a cutoff below which it's not likely to be twins?
Avatar f tn These menopausal symptoms can also be the result of chemotherapy, ovarian ablation, and hormone therapy. Women can get relief from these symptoms by opting for Hormone Replacement Therapy for Women. It helps in balancing the estrogen and progesterone levels.
Avatar n tn I don't know the exact odds, but they are slim. Fertility begins to decline in our 30's (very gradually) and by 50 it is pretty rare for a women to get pregnant without help. However, it is not impossible, and it can happen. So, as long as she is still ovulating, if you wish to avoid pregnancy, using protection is not a bad idea.
Avatar f tn Overall, males had higher progression rates at 66% versus 41% for women. However, for those under the age of 50, fibrosis progression was 51% for males versus 11% for females. Over age 50, the rate jumps to 77% for males versus 61% for females. These data show a strong relationship between gender and fibrosis progression. The researchers surmise that estrogen may have a protective benefit for younger women with HCV. They recommend the use of estrogen replacement therapy for menopausal women.
Avatar f tn Most of all my specialist and drs except for one specialist says I need to take combined hrt. Estrogen only taken by a lot of women in the 60 s showed there was an increase in uterus cancer for those who had their uterus in tact. The 70s saw a big increase in this type of cancer which is why they prescribe combined.
1112541 tn?1286311213 Some herbal products (like soy isoflavones, red clover and some Chinese herbs) can act like estrogen in our bodies, and may not be safe for women who need to avoid estrogen. Also, there are some antidepressants that are supposed to be helpful for those of us who can't take the hormones, so that might be another option you could ask your doctor about. Take care!

Avatar n tn ) As you are probably aware, there is an association of increased risk for BC in menopausal women using combination HRT (estrogen and progesterone), esp. for lobular cancer. (I don't believe there is as much information re a link to BC when estrogen alone is used, but I could be wrong.) In the recent years since the trend has changed to using the lowest doses of HRT for the shortest possible time, BC rates in this country have dropped.
Avatar n tn Melasma is a very common skin disorder, especially among pregnant women. 15% to 50% of pregnant women get it. Between 1.5% and 33% of the population may get melasma and it happens more often during a woman’s reproductive years, and rarely happens during puberty. It usually starts between 20 and 40 years of age. Who is at risk of melasma? Fairer-skinned people are less likely to be affected by melasma than those with darker brown skin or those who tan well.
Avatar n tn I have heard that men wanting to either reassign their gender or simply to dress as women can take estrogen and that it minimizes the male genitals after a while, but have never heard how much. The only man I ever talked to who was into dressing female, looked great (in other words, you would not be able to tell he was anything but a very striking woman) even in a swimsuit, and although he was doubtless taking hormones, he had not had an operation.
1651832 tn?1301690605 I understand that everyone is different, but the prevailing attitude is that our bodies (for women) were made to crave estrogen. And, Estradiol is the estrogen that is produced when we are at our most vital ... produced in the ovaries from puberty to menopause and even after that... they say our ovaries drip estradiol for years after menopause (although many women choose to supplement anyway so that there is an optimal amount of estradiol for optimal health.
Avatar f tn I had my surgery on 10/28 and glad its over. I can't believe a week has gone by already. I spoke to my doctor late Monday and she told me the pathology report showed Estrogen/Progestorone +/HER2- and the lymph nodes were negative. She said the tumor was 2.7 cm and said chemo was probably 50/50. It's being sent out for the onco test to see which way to go. I am 52 and post menopausal. I will be picking up the pathology report tomorrow.
1077380 tn?1255898744 You sound like a very strong woman;) I strongly believe that hormones (lack of) in early pregnancy is a HUGE reason why so many of us mc;( & the thing is, even though it's a little more higher for us slightly older & WISER women, it's also true for younger women. As far as progesterone is concerned, that really needs to be started as soon as ovulation has been confirmed. Estrogen, I have no idea about. I hope you recover quickly, both physically & emotionally.
Avatar n tn Hi Sandra, Granulosa cell tumors produce estrogen and estrogen levels are a good marker to evaluate for recurrence. I am not aware of any studies showing that estrogen causes these tumors to grow. I have pasted a very nice review from emedicine below. best wishes Background Three major types of ovarian neoplasms are described, with epithelial cell tumors (70%) comprising the largest group of tumors.

20815362 tn?1520459514 Sorry to hear this. Are you suffering any lubrication issues? Women in the menopause years as their estrogen decreases often have significant issues with this and also pain during sex. There is an estrogen cream you put on your vagina they can give you to help?? Talk to your doctor about it.
Avatar f tn I had a hysterectomy 2 years ago. I am currently 50. The doctor put me on estrogen as soon as I had it for estrogen replacement therapy. Now two years after having no symptoms or problems at all, I have almost every symptom of going through menopause except the hot flashes. I don't have hot flashes, I sweat all the time. Can't sleep.
