Avatar n tn What I found interesting, was that after looking at my favorite top 5, increase and decrease in libido was not even mentioned although they were quick to note side effects such as depression, vaginal dryness and legathy. Even the official website for Arimidex itself and the "largest known site for the most comprehensive list of side effects" doesn't touch libido...at all. Hmmm However, women taking this medication tell a different story.
Avatar f tn So if I was still getting my period, I could take birth control pills (which have a lot more estrogen in them than the estrogen replacement) in addition to what my body would be making and this is safe?!?! Has anyone asked their doctor about this or has anyone heard of any studies being done on young surgical menopause people? This is so confusing and scares me. When I wasn't on enough estrogen, life was miserable. I was 35 and yet I felt like I was 86!!
Avatar m tn Low estrogen levels are often addressed by supplementing with estrogen cream or patches; however some nutritional supplements may also help improve symptoms Low Progesterone: Treatment often includes natural progesterone supplementation, which is generally very safe and effective. The herb chasteberry may also help normalize progesterone levels. Sometimes low progesterone indicates low thyroid hormone levels, therefore lab tests for thyroid function may be recommended.

Avatar f tn The "pill' isn't just one kind of pill. It comes in a variety of forms. Which one are you on? You need to know its composition. Among women before menopause, the use of oral contraceptives has generally been associated with a small increase in the risk for stroke. Your idea of this " fix" should be thoroughly discussed with your gynecologist.
Avatar f tn The most serious effect from high doses is that estrogen (the active ingredient in Incurin) may have a tumour-promoting effect in target organs with estrogen receptors, such as the mammary gland. The most dangerous effect of PPA (phenylpropanolamine) is hypertension.
Avatar f tn Why don't oncologists periodically check the hormone levels of estriol, estradiol, estrone and progerterone for those of us on these drugs? Why is it that we all get the same dosage for years and the only thing checked for is CA 27-29? Wouldn't it make more sense to check the hormone levels and adjust the dosage or frequency of taking these drugs accordingly? Maybe if this were done fewer women would have to put up with so many side effects.
Avatar n tn t enough for me to suffer the side effects. Each woman is different, though. Other women obtain a very high risk reduction rate by taking hormone-suppressors - or have a lower tolerance for risk in general and see even a 3% reduction as valuable enough to endure the significant side effects. There is a lot of pressure to take hormone-suppressors and many articles around - a lot of it written by so called experts and placed through publicity channels in the mainstream media.
Avatar f tn I experienced chocolate cysts, endo, blood tickening and tumor on my right ovary at the age of 19, when I lost my rught ovary, and since than I am trying to save my left ovary (because I also have cysts on it) with BCP and medical procedures, until I decide to start TTC. More and more young women (girls) are suffering from this kind of gyno problems, at young age. So, that's not so unusual. And, about infertility: I think that it depends from women to women. There are different cases.
Avatar f tn If you go to chemocare.com you can read all the side effects of Tamoxifen. What you mention are all listed there. The weight gain no doubt is due to fluid retention which is one of the side effects. You might discuss changing drugs with your Oncologist as there are others available but keep in mind that they all have similar side effecfts even though you mjight not experience them to the same degree. Regards .....
Avatar m tn Enlarged breasts are one of the first and most noticeable side effects to appear in men when estrogen levels are elevated. This is known as gynecomastia and a few other names in the gym too. Other side effects include loss of muscle tone, a decrease in body hair, shrinking testes, depression, fatigue, lower energy levels, poor memory, low stress tolerance, an ncrease in fat around the mid-section (belly fat) and erectile dysfunction.
473222 tn?1214439873 Nobody yet knows what the long term effect of all the women who are now in their twenties and thirties taking the pill will be. Perhaps the effects will not become obvious until us women are in our fifties or sixties. I am a member of a forum called yasmin survivors. I probably cannot post links so if any body is interested, just google yasmin survivors and it should take you to the forum where you can read of other women's horrific side effects with yasmin and other birth control pills.
Avatar f tn A problem is, testosterone varies a whole lot in both men and women, by the day, hour, week, etc. and even more in women than men, so the only true way to know if you had abnormally low levels would have been to test you a lot, not just twice. You did have the same levels twice, so it might be a problem. A question would be, how's your sexual desire? How's your stamina? How's your ability to build muscle? How's your energy levels?
Avatar f tn I have stopped taking the Progynova since my dizziness and anxiety (these side effects are also discussed in the leaflet) make it too difficult to function in my job. I have an appointment with my fertility specialist on Tuesday, so let's see what he has to say. I'll let you all know... Have a wonderful Sunday!
Avatar n tn Plus remember tha there have been no studies looking at estrogen increasing ovarian cancer recurrence in women with a known ovarian cancer. So you are left with the option of just not taking estrogen because of a theoretical risk versus taking it because of the known benefits of sexual function, strong bones, improved quality of life. I have pasted the WHI summary below: Findings Summary Gynecologic cancers are cancers of female organs other than the breast.
Avatar f tn I have been on every birth control available and they all have side effects affecting libido. There is a very low dose pill called Camila that you may want to check out but since it's a low estrogen, you have to take it consistently. I've heard that the Maca Root supplement is good at boosting a woman's libido.
Avatar f tn My doctor said that estradiol my help thicken mucus and help with pregnancy...first of all...it has killed my sex drive..I know I'm on a small dose, but i just looked up side effects and it said BIRTH DEFECTS PREGNANCY CATEGORY X. Why would he give me something like that when I'm ttc??? I've only taken three doses, but I'm stoping it. I didn't have a test come back and say that my E-2 levels were low or anything.
138239 tn?1239924924 It can be low for many reasons - but were any other androgen tests done as well that were off like estrogen or testosterone? If you take DHEA, you will likely raise those levels. It can have unwanted side effects in that case. Was LH or FSH tested? Any other adrenal hormones like renin, aldosterone, cortisol, ACTH tested? How were you tested for Cushing's? Did they at least follow the guidelines and test you three times? I had Cushing's - it can be very difficult to diagnose.

1112541 tn?1286311213 Some herbal products (like soy isoflavones, red clover and some Chinese herbs) can act like estrogen in our bodies, and may not be safe for women who need to avoid estrogen. Also, there are some antidepressants that are supposed to be helpful for those of us who can't take the hormones, so that might be another option you could ask your doctor about. Take care!
