You should not take more than recommended dose; otherwise you may land up in complication. This is due to stimulation of the muscles. Hence, epipen should be better used under doctor's observation.

Alternatively, the same drug can be given by the local health care provider or you need to go to emergency department.
m also allergic to several medications (antibiotics) and my doctor said I might need an epipen when I take them to keep me alive until I get to a hospital. Just about all antibiotics close my throat. But I thought epipens contained epiphenephrine, and was told by a friend that it's bad for those with a heart arrhythmia. Has anyone here with PVCs had to use an epipen for an anaphlactic shock reaction, and if so, was it safe for the heart? Thanks.
Hello I have severe reactions from insect stings especially bee stings. Its so bad that 1 or 2 stings will put me into anaphylactic shock. I have over 5000+ PVC's a day and the docs say it is a supposed benign condition. (which I do not believe). My wife has never had a pvc or palpitations. Anyways, I have to carry around a epipen everywhere I go. Last year I was working in my back yard and was stung twice, once in the face under the eye and once in my arm.
Some allergies can be life-threatening as they can precipitate anaphylactic shock in which the swelling can be so severe that it impairs the ability to breathe. Therefore, I would suggest you see someone as soon as possible. Also, keep an epi pen with you in case of an emergency.

This has always controlled the swelling for me, but in my case I have eaten something that I am allergic to and the reaction starts in the throat. For you, the throat swelling seems to be part of a systemic reaction. In any case the liquid Benadryl is worth a try.
I was rushed to emergency, given benedryl and sent home 4 hours later. I got an Epipen for I was told, although rare, that I could have a secondary reaction within the next week. Sure enough November 5 I had a second reaction (bi-phasic reaction). I was given the epipen by my mother for I passed out and couldn't give it myself. Back to the hospital.
You may need an Epipen if it becomes more severe but in the meantime see a physician and buy some Benadryl.
I have carried an epipen for the last 11 years for my son and Thank God we have not had to use it. But I was wondering if anyone did have an experience like this and had to use an epipen. Or if you have any information on urticaria pigmentosa? ( I know alot about it but I always would like to know more. Please share any information you may have or experiences you incountered.
Yes, I take Rebif as well and I don't have any injection site problems. I just started 3 weeks ago though. But I take it at night right before I go to sleep. If I do it during the day, I get realllllllly sleepy. Hope everything turns out ok!
Using an EpiPen that has expired is mostly discouraged but is better than no medication in emergencies.There is no alternative to epipen in case of anaphylaxis reaction but if a mild allergic reaction is there then oral or intravenous antihistaminic and steroid can be used.

My dr. has prescribed a epipen to use in case of emergency, since I had a bad reaction to something which we haven't pinpointed as of yet about 10 days ago. I am beside myself trying to figure out what I am allergic to and why I'm suffering from so many different reactions to my system. I want to know if this garlic smell could also be a reaction to food, I have not ingested garlic at all in the last few weeks.
I now carry an epipen but would really like to track down the food that caused me to go into shock. Has anyone had such a reaction to chives or green onions without being allergic to other foods in that family? Thanks for any help you can give me.
For a couple of years I started having this reaction to mangoes, where my lips burn and start to get crusty, and it has developed to that, my mouth gets itchy and dry, and my throat becomes raw. My aunt who used to be a RN gave me something called aclivor (both a pill and some kind of paste for my lips) which seemed to work for the first event. But lately, I've been running out of the paste and the only place I can find aclivor is on online pharmacies from Mexico.
I don't know if this will help, but my boyfriend started suffering from random swellings a couple of years ago.
The first was his tonsils, but he's since had swellings on his lips, tongue, face, back, arms, hands, stomach, legs, knees, feet... sometimes it'll start in one place and move to the other, eg. left side of face to right side.
He's been to allergy specialists and had blood tests, but they can't find a cause, and the only trigger they found was stress.
I'm having the following symptoms whenever I ingest certain types of food: the inside of my mouth (cheeks/tongue) swells and it's painful to swallow. It started out happening everytime I ate something with mayonnaise. But I just recently had a reaction within 35 minutes after eating Lay's salt & vinegar potato chips and on another occasion, I haven't been able to pinpoint the food source.
