epipen

Avatar n tn Anyways, I have to carry around a epipen everywhere I go. Last year I was working in my back yard and was stung twice, once in the face under the eye and once in my arm. I was swollen within seconds and was confused and turned pale. I stuck myself with the epipen and called the ambulance. I was in the hospital for two days while they worked on me. The doctor said the epipen saved my life.
Avatar m tn Nicotine is a vasoconstricter, meaning it makes it harder to pump blood through microcirculation. Furthermore there is no antidote. Nicotine is is absolutely contraindicated. You have a potentially life-threatening problem that cannot be solved by home remedies. You do not know when the situation may deteriorate into what is called a "locked-lung" resulting in death. The fact you have observed the symtoms progressively get worse over a period of time disturbs me.
Avatar n tn Hello I have severe reactions from insect stings especially bee stings. Its so bad that 1 or 2 stings will put me into anaphylactic shock. I have over 5000+ PVC's a day and the docs say it is a supposed benign condition. (which I do not believe). My wife has never had a pvc or palpitations. Anyways, I have to carry around a epipen everywhere I go. Last year I was working in my back yard and was stung twice, once in the face under the eye and once in my arm.
Avatar f tn It should only be used in case of life threatening allergic reaction. Epipen is known to be associated with shaking esp. when the larger doses are taken. You should not take more than recommended dose; otherwise you may land up in complication. This is due to stimulation of the muscles. Hence, epipen should be better used under doctor's observation. If you are allergic to water following measures will help you- - Stay away from water as long as possible. - Avoid going in rain outside.
Avatar n tn Hi, welcome to the forum, as such epipen are not available yet. Epipen delivers a measured dose of epinephrine (also known as adrenaline) using autoinjector technology, most frequently for the treatment of acute allergic reactions to avoid or treat the onset of anaphylactic shock. In certain cases it can be used to stop local bleeding. Alternatively, the same drug can be given by the local health care provider or you need to go to emergency department.
Avatar f tn html If you had anaphylaxis reaction before, it is always good to carry a identification bracelet or epi pen with you. There are plenty of food that have nut component or ingredient that is not usually indicated and known. Take care and regards.
645800 tn?1466860955 I am very allergic to bee and wasp stings to the point that I can die from a sting within about 1/2 hour or so. As a result I am suppose to carry an EpiPen with me at all times ( especially since there are a lot of wasps and bees around my home ). But despite this the couple of times I have been stung I have never been able to give myself the much needed shot. And to make matter worse I always have 2 reactions to each sting.
Avatar f tn Definitely talk to your doctor in the morning. I have anaphylaxis when stung by bees. They told me to carry my epipen (shot) & take it, then go to the hospital if I got stung. They told me to do what I normally do, but get monitored. They may want you to come in since your immune system is low, due to being pregnant & the reaction could be worse or cause a fever.
Avatar m tn I went out last night and was having a good time, I normally carry an epipen for my anaphylactic allergies but haven't had allergies for two years, I'm only Allergic to latex and bananas. I poured my own drinks because we had bottle service but then had to make a quick call so I handed my drink to one of my girlfriends and went outside, when I came back she had gone to the bathroom and had left my drink on the table I didn't think much of it and continued to drink my drink.
Avatar m tn I now carry an epipen but would really like to track down the food that caused me to go into shock. Has anyone had such a reaction to chives or green onions without being allergic to other foods in that family? Thanks for any help you can give me.
Avatar m tn When my throat symptoms get really bad, it seems to improve them pretty quickly. I also carry an epipen in case things get really out-of-hand.
Avatar f tn I'm a healthy 24 year old female from Ohio.. have had all kinds of indoor and outdoor allergies since childhood, but around age 21, I developed several food allergies. mainly tree nuts, some beans, and fruit. I recently was retested to see if any of them went away, and it has only gotten severely worse! longer list of nuts, fruits, beans... it's beginning to seem the list of things I CAN eat is shorter than the list of things I CAN'T eat.
Avatar n tn Last September I developed hives, my GP felt it was an allergy but since then I have had 3 anyphalactic shock episodes where I have had to be hospitalised, I now carry an Epipen. I have just seen a dermatologist who changed my antihistamine presciption, and who told me the hives could be linked to my thyroid condition and has taken blood to test for C3, C4, haemoglobins, electrophoresis, full blood count and ESR. Can you explain the link please between hypothyroid and allergic reactions?
Avatar f tn I don't know if this will help, but my boyfriend started suffering from random swellings a couple of years ago. The first was his tonsils, but he's since had swellings on his lips, tongue, face, back, arms, hands, stomach, legs, knees, feet... sometimes it'll start in one place and move to the other, eg. left side of face to right side. He's been to allergy specialists and had blood tests, but they can't find a cause, and the only trigger they found was stress.
Avatar n tn If she is not allergic to all triazole antifungals, it should be safe... She could take it but have her epipen in close range, just in case, and maybe take it while a doctor is present, just in case. To be on the safe side, switch to another imidazole or thiazole antifungal instead.
Avatar m tn By the time the ambulance got there, they could barely get a pressure or pulse. They said in a couple minutes, it would have been too late. I carry an epipen, and when I use it, I can get to the hospital before it is too late. I have every test they can think of, I have no food allergies that seem to apply. Once, I was playing ball with my son, another changing a tire, another standing talking to someone, once I was driving, and yesterday I was at a basketball practice (coaching).
Avatar f tn What about food allergies? I would think you would be on an antihistamine every day and carry an epipen for emergencies. Maybe there are shots you could take if they found out your triggers. Have you seen an actual allergist?
Avatar f tn Hello, First of all,yes you should carry an epipen. The swelling of the tongue and lips that you had is due to angioedema.Angioedema can be life threatening when it involves the larynx and respiratory muscles.Regarding the allergic reaction to alcohol,it is usually not the alcohol that produces the allergic reaction to the wine or beer. The other ingredients in the alcohol, such as yeast, sulfur dioxide, and additives are often the culprits.
Avatar n tn I'm having the following symptoms whenever I ingest certain types of food: the inside of my mouth (cheeks/tongue) swells and it's painful to swallow. It started out happening everytime I ate something with mayonnaise. But I just recently had a reaction within 35 minutes after eating Lay's salt & vinegar potato chips and on another occasion, I haven't been able to pinpoint the food source.

Avatar f tn This has always controlled the swelling for me, but in my case I have eaten something that I am allergic to and the reaction starts in the throat. For you, the throat swelling seems to be part of a systemic reaction. In any case the liquid Benadryl is worth a try.
