Epipen asthma

Common Questions and Answers about Epipen asthma

epipen

Avatar n tn Hi, welcome to the forum, as such epipen are not available yet. Epipen delivers a measured dose of epinephrine (also known as adrenaline) using autoinjector technology, most frequently for the treatment of acute allergic reactions to avoid or treat the onset of anaphylactic shock. In certain cases it can be used to stop local bleeding. Alternatively, the same drug can be given by the local health care provider or you need to go to emergency department.
Avatar f tn The other day my friend had a major asthma attack that almost sent him to the ER-- he thankfully had an epipen nearby. He thinks what triggered it was a laxative (sennosides in pill form) he took a couple of hours before. Is this even possible? And if so, should he be avoiding all things laxative? I wouldn't be asking these questions here, but he is too stubborn to go to a doctor like he should.
453255 tn?1205792176 I have anaphylaxis and severe asthma, and I have several known anaphylactic triggers, (such as all treenuts, certain types of pollen, and raw fruit - especially apples) - but my new allergist I recently met with explained to me the reason I am allergic to raw fruit such as apples, peaches, pairs plumbs is because of a condition called "Oral Allergy Syndrome" where my tongue recognizes the fruit as pollen in its raw state.
Avatar f tn I am 23 years old and since I was little, I have had asthma, allergic rhinitis, and hay fever. For years I have been having what I thought were asthma attacks, taken my inhaler, and was fine later on. Sometimes, I would just try to get through the attacks with out using the inhaler (though I always kept it nearby). Recently, my "asthma" has been getting worse and I've been looking up a lot of info on it. It turns out, this may not be asthma.
Avatar n tn Hello and welcome to MedHelp's forums. Thanks for your question. Did you ever see the allergist? You say you do not have any allergies so I am trying to get a handle on why you adamantly state this such as if some testing was done or a doctor's visit with a specialist cleared this possibility. Here is some information on bronchial asthma. There are tests that can be done to rule this out on page two. I'm wondering if you have had any of these tests. https://www.webmd.
Avatar n tn m also allergic to several medications (antibiotics) and my doctor said I might need an epipen when I take them to keep me alive until I get to a hospital. Just about all antibiotics close my throat. But I thought epipens contained epiphenephrine, and was told by a friend that it's bad for those with a heart arrhythmia. Has anyone here with PVCs had to use an epipen for an anaphlactic shock reaction, and if so, was it safe for the heart? Thanks.
Avatar f tn s strange since I had eaten the same crackers earlier in the day and had no reaction. I went to the ER and they only treated me for asthma, I had taken two benadryls at home., Again diahrea the day after which lingered a bit, I've noticed my skin is usually itchy and I get red patches at any given moment. I also get small hives. What can be causing these allergic reactions?
Avatar f tn This weekend was horrible, I had two reaction to the water, on friday it was with rain, and had to give me 2 shoots of Epipen, and than I was better but shaking badly from the Epipen, and yesturday just by sweat I did a reaction and again the Epipen but just once, and I didnt even went to the hospital after, his that dangerous if I dont go???? And his it dangerous I have to many shoots?????
Avatar n tn Hello I have severe reactions from insect stings especially bee stings. Its so bad that 1 or 2 stings will put me into anaphylactic shock. I have over 5000+ PVC's a day and the docs say it is a supposed benign condition. (which I do not believe). My wife has never had a pvc or palpitations. Anyways, I have to carry around a epipen everywhere I go. Last year I was working in my back yard and was stung twice, once in the face under the eye and once in my arm.
Avatar n tn My parents recount that when I was an infant a had an eczema reaction when I was given fish for the first time and repeated asthma attacks when I smelled fish being cooked in the house. Since then I was taught to avoid fish and fish was never cooked my apartment. If my parents wanted to eat fish we would get a table on the terrace of a fish restaurant where I could eat a non fish meal without any reaction.
9552239 tn?1404989880 What are you allergic to ? I see on your status you say you have a new epipen and medical bracelet. I have a medical bracelet too. I am sorry to hear that you had an anaphylactic reaction. That must have been so scary. I have allergies too and I have asthma. I wish I could tell you when you feel better and feel normal again. You said you had the severe reaction over a week ago. Glad to hear that you are feeling quite a bit better.
Avatar n tn This can range from common hay fever to hives to asthma or anaphylactic reactions. Of these the anaphylactic reactions are the most severe forms and the symptoms can include breathlessness with stridor and with dropping of blood pressure resulting in loss of consciousness. It is a medical emergency and needs to be tackled immediately. Epipen is used in such situations. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn He suggested an Asthmanefrin inhaler, which provides a little dose of epinephrine, designed for asthma sufferers. It is available over the counter. When my throat symptoms get really bad, it seems to improve them pretty quickly. I also carry an epipen in case things get really out-of-hand.
645800 tn?1466860955 I am very allergic to bee and wasp stings to the point that I can die from a sting within about 1/2 hour or so. As a result I am suppose to carry an EpiPen with me at all times ( especially since there are a lot of wasps and bees around my home ). But despite this the couple of times I have been stung I have never been able to give myself the much needed shot. And to make matter worse I always have 2 reactions to each sting.
Avatar n tn I was rushed to emergency, given benedryl and sent home 4 hours later. I got an Epipen for I was told, although rare, that I could have a secondary reaction within the next week. Sure enough November 5 I had a second reaction (bi-phasic reaction). I was given the epipen by my mother for I passed out and couldn't give it myself. Back to the hospital.
Avatar f tn You may need an Epipen if it becomes more severe but in the meantime see a physician and buy some Benadryl.
Avatar f tn t take a shot of Zolair and I have asthma and allergies. Anyway, this drug sounds dangerous to me. You might want to research it further.
Avatar f tn I have carried an epipen for the last 11 years for my son and Thank God we have not had to use it. But I was wondering if anyone did have an experience like this and had to use an epipen. Or if you have any information on urticaria pigmentosa? ( I know alot about it but I always would like to know more. Please share any information you may have or experiences you incountered.
Avatar f tn Yes, I take Rebif as well and I don't have any injection site problems. I just started 3 weeks ago though. But I take it at night right before I go to sleep. If I do it during the day, I get realllllllly sleepy. Hope everything turns out ok!
20451547 tn?1498215245 I have been having panic attacks ever since early 2015 when I was first ever stang by a wasp and went into anaphylactic shock.(the er doctor said I am allergic to bees/wasps/hornets venom. That day I was rushed back into the er and bum rushed by 5 different nurses and a doctor, one nurse asking me which arm I want the epipen in? I am like Idc I can't breath stab me! ) I almost died that day, and now I have been having panic attacks almost every other day.
645800 tn?1466860955 With the talk of EpiPen in Michelle's post earlier today it got me thinking about my problem with needles and other self infecting skin damage devices. I am hoping that maybe someone will have some ideas or at least where to look for help with this. My problem isn't the normal fear of needles. I can get shot or blood drawn with no problems. Well except I have to be able to watch what is going on.If I can't see it happening I will pass out.
Avatar m tn My reaction happened at home and progressed rapidly, so I had to use my EpiPen and go to the ER. I went to see my doctor two days later, and we decided to continue with my allergy shots. If you decide to continue with your allergy shots, your doctor will take precautions so you're less likely to have another bad reaction. My doctor told me to take 50mg of Benadryl and 2 puffs of albuterol before my shots, in addition to my regular medicines. I have an EpiPen available on shot days.
Avatar f tn I have found over the years it has gotten worse (sorry) but when I look back,as a kid- age 6 or 7 I had a rash with tomatoes, and other things-bringing an epipen and benadryl with you at all times is crucial.Telling whomever you are having a meal with that you have life threatening allergies is also crucial. And informing the restaurant.I have found using the phrase: "I have a life threatening allergy to-" works..
