1047019 tn?1256719961 ve also recently developed a bad allergy to wheat and gluten. Does novacaine contain either? I am worried about some kind of allergic syndrome developing.
Avatar f tn Just as the doctor left the room after shooting him up with the novacaine on both sides of his mouth top and bottom he went unconsious and had a seizure. The doctor stated it was because he fasted and was nervous. He has never had a seizure before but it was deffinately not just passing out. What should I watch for as future side effects of this treatment?
Avatar f tn And that is important for heart health. Be sure you get a novacaine without epinephrine. This is REALLY important. I have an irregular heartbeat, after having the epinephrine and have heard the same thing from many others going into Afib from it, or having their Afib made worse. I remind the dentist each and every time. It's not paranoia when there really is a problem!
Avatar n tn m wondering with my heart problem how dangerous is it to get a dose of epinephrine and how will that affect my heart? I had an epinephrine dose in the early nineties due to a breathing problem, but that was before I was diagnosed with the mvp and atrial misfire.
9445847 tn?1408059755 No.problem. you might need a note from your ob saying you can have novacaine without epinephrine and xrays with proper chest protection. But there shouldn't be any other issues. :-) good luck the dentist *****.
Avatar f tn My dentist had my OB sign something saying that should I need dental work they would use injectable anesthesia but it needs to be epinephrine free!!!
Avatar m tn After the second visit, at about the time the novacaine numbness wore off 5 hours or so later, he got a tremor in his left arm and hand, then later his right leg was affected as well. This continued for 3 days before ending. Can you please tell me what type of doctor to follow up with to find out what is going on and prevent a possible worse reaction if he should get novacaine again.
Avatar n tn I had a root canal and afterward I was so woozy that I think the novacaine that he gave me was laced with something. I actually fell down on the sidewalk walking out of the office. Is that possible?
1301089 tn?1290666571 However Im not allergic to latex. But I cant get the novacaine that has the epinephrine in it! It makes my heart race so fast it feels like its going to explode! they have to use the other kind instead which doesnt work as good of course. I once had to have an infected dry socket debrided/scraped out with NO NUMBING because it wouldnt work! The dude took a metal hook in the infected socket where I had just had a tooth pulled from a few days prior and raked it in the pit to make a new clot form.
Avatar f tn Epinephrine is the a hormone and neurotransmiter. It is produced by the adrenal gland an is a "fight-or-flight catecholamine." So is norepinephrine. In biochemistry, the prefix "nor" means that norepinephrine is an analog of epinephrine. They function quite differently in the body. epinephrine is most commonly thought of in terms of t effect on the sympathetic nervous system - increasing heart rate, increasing blood pressure, hyper alertness, etc.
Avatar n tn He thinks that when he injected the novacaine that he hit an artery in my cheek. The blood then drained down and formed a hematoma (bruise). He stated that he might see this type of injury once or twice a year. I'm just happy it wasn't something more serious.
Avatar n tn Well, I don't know, they've always called it novocaine in front of me. In fact, I've had discussions with them about the "novocaine" and the effects of the epinephrine in it. I looked it up and according to google results "novocaine" is still regularly used. That included my "surgeries" in which I was fully awake, and just numbed.
290867 tn?1333569278 t give you any pain meds for afterwards (they usually give out vicadin) and it hurts and is stressful and frustrating. Plus it makes it difficult to eat since your mouth is sore... and eating is, of course, very important while pregnant. It was a horrible experience and I vowed never to have dental work done again while pregnant. Reschedule sweetie please!
Avatar f tn It's the epinephrine in the anesthetic that causes the racing heart, etc. Next time you're at the dentist and you need/want an anesthetic ask for one WITHOUT epinephrine. The medication generally takes a little longer to "kick in" and wears off faster, but your dentist will work with you for maximum comfort.

Avatar f tn I had a very deep cavity filled on my upper right last tooth (#2) last week and after was having serious jaw/overall mouth pain/headache. It slowly got a little better each day. Then I went back on Tuesday to have my crown replaced on my lower right tooth 2nd to last (same side). I told the dentist about my pain and he said I might need a root canal so he prescribed me some pain meds and antibiotics if the pain continues.
Avatar f tn ok anyways that was oct 5 but on oct 1 i had had a tooth filled and novacaine was used and today im supposed to get another tooth filled, anyways im wondering if there is or could be a connection between the dental appointment and that er visit like maybe the novacaine was still in my system and caused the hhr of 240.Im near panic and i dont think im going to get the tooth filled untill i get more information because for SURE i dont want another trip to the er in a few days.
Avatar f tn I would not blame this on the MS, per se. Dentists try to "block" the 1st and 2nd branch of the trigeminal nerve. The 1st branch is the jaw and the second is the upper teeth. The third branch is the upper face and the surface of the eye. If they get a "good" block, it is possible to numb up half the face in one shot.
1817071 tn?1366228243 I have had a ton of dental work done and I remind my dentist every time no epinephrine. Also something to be aware of...if you have a tooth crowned when they are doing the crown prep they use a string coated in epinephrine to retract your gum prior to making the impressions. It is equivalent to about 3 shots with epi. They have string that does not have the epinephrine so be sure to remember to ask if you are having a tooth crowned.
Avatar f tn I had to get stitches last night, and was given 5-6 shots of epinephrine and lidocane. I told the intake nurse I was taking synthroid (which I presume implies thyroid problems). I felt a little "unusual" afterward (pounding heart, feeling calm and detached..), and was googling the side effects of the shot.. an article said this: "Additionally, epinephrine and lidocaine usually aren’t used in patients with thyroid disease, or disease of the kidneys or liver.
Avatar f tn Can you pump in preperation for the day you have the novacaine? Novacaine will only last a few hours, so you won't even need a full day's supply. But then you may have to take some pain medication for a couple of days afterwards and you don't want this going into the baby thru your breast milk.
Avatar f tn My right ear and right side of my neck are numb. Not completely but like a shot of novacaine. I have had a cold recently but I have never has this happen! What could this be from?
Avatar f tn s left after the epinephrine is spent, and normetanephrine, the inactive metabolite of norepinephrine, which they also measure). But it sounds like from what you are saying that it doesn't block the emission of epinephrine, just the action it takes- I'd suggest if you don't hear quickly from your doctor you consult a knowledgeable pharmacist for their opinion.
Avatar n tn I had a 2nd trimester miscarriage the day that I had a mole removed at my dermatologist. They used Epinephrine and Xylocaine and when we received the autopsy report it revealed that my baby was perfectly normal and healthy without chromosonal issues prior to him dieing in my womb that day. Has anyone experienced this or known anyone who has? I researched on the web and found many warnings about pregnant women receiving Lidocaine from the dentist but not what they gave me.
Avatar f tn Involved is the sympathetic nervous system that prepares the body for action...oftened referred to as the "fight or flight" response to a stressful situation. And it quickly does the following and heart rate is only one factor: Increases strength of skeletal muscles Decreases blood clotting time Increases heart rate Increases sugar and fat levels Reduces intestinal movement Inhibits tears, digestive secretions.
Avatar f tn So far I always got eye drops without epinephrine/or something equal to epinephrine, but this last eye doctor did not want to use any drops at all. He examined my eyes without dialating them.
Avatar m tn Hi, It is a serotonin and nor epinephrine reuptake inhibitor. The name of the neurotransmitter is nor epinephrine it is different from epinephrine. Most of the side effects occur during the period when one is taking the medication. But the important thing to remember is to follow the doctors instructions carefully. To reduce the incidence of side effects it is always started with a low dose and then it is gradually increased.
Avatar f tn s the epinephrine that is in the lidocaine. You can ask your dentist to use an anesthetic without epinephrine, I have had tons of dental work and always ask for that. Dentist doesn't mind at all and I've never had any problems. It doesn't last as long but if you start to feel anything while they are working the dentist will just give you more. I have done fine with it.
