Avatar f tn I have had hives for a day & a half. I would like to know if this could be related to nerves. I don't have any food allergies. I went to the doctor yesterday, she gave me a shot of Epinephrine. That helped for a couple of hours. I have been taking benadryl every 6 hours & putting blue star ointment on. Before I got the shot my mouth was swelling and I almost lost my voice. Please, let me know what to do.

Avatar n tn About 8yrs ago I suffered anaphylaxis reaction to what I thought was pecan nuts. Symptoms being difficulty breathing, swelling closing airways etc. I was tested and from what I remember they said I was more allergic to dog hair than I was to pecan nuts which was weird. Anyway, I have had no further problems since apart from mild allergy to bananas (itchy throat) which I thought was ok to just live with.
4451049 tn?1387153437 @ ephedra It sounds as if you were going into anaphylactic shock. Maybe not to the point where you might die but enough to warrant great caution! No wonder your doctor agreed you were right to go off of it! So, no I don't think that was a herx. Or if it was------ it was a dangerous one and should never be tolerated. Mayo Clinic says: "Anaphylaxis symptoms usually occur within minutes of exposure to an allergen.

539780 tn?1213943976 Emergency medical kits containing self-administrable epinephrine to counter anaphylactic shock are available for allergic people and should be carried by them at all times. People who suspect they are allergic should consult an allergist about shots that can reduce reactions to bee and wasp venom. Most stings can be treated at home.
1460427 tn?1285773515 I was diagnosed a little over a year ago by immunology because I demanded the testing or they never would have found it. I now have epinephrine and am on an all natural estrogen that is doing well most of the time compared to various organs failing almost every month from anaphylactic shock. I suffer a slow forming anaphylaxis and most of my reactions are internalized effecting my organs and muscles.
Avatar f tn But for a couple years now I get hives every time I exercise. My body (especially my feet, thighs, arms and trunk) burn and then start to itch really bad and I break out in little red bumps that quickly spread to patches of red, swollen hives all over. Very uncomfortable! By the time I cool down, shower and dress they are mostly gone but it's a pretty miserable hours until that happens. Any ideas why I seem to be allergic to exercise and what I can do about it?
Avatar f tn Epinephrine is the a hormone and neurotransmiter. It is produced by the adrenal gland an is a "fight-or-flight catecholamine." So is norepinephrine. In biochemistry, the prefix "nor" means that norepinephrine is an analog of epinephrine. They function quite differently in the body. epinephrine is most commonly thought of in terms of t effect on the sympathetic nervous system - increasing heart rate, increasing blood pressure, hyper alertness, etc.
Avatar f tn It's the epinephrine in the anesthetic that causes the racing heart, etc. Next time you're at the dentist and you need/want an anesthetic ask for one WITHOUT epinephrine. The medication generally takes a little longer to "kick in" and wears off faster, but your dentist will work with you for maximum comfort.
Avatar m tn I have been researching mold exposure and mold spores in the lungs that can cause anaphylaxis to multiple foods, but mainly fish and seafood is by far the worst. Does this all sound like it is being triggered by mold spores?
Avatar n tn I was given another dose of benedryl and was told that I would be fine, that I had the adrenaline and the benedryl on board and was in the clear. Not even an hour after that first one, I had another one right there in the emerg hallway waiting for a room. Somehow my body managed to fight the second one off without the epipen. This time I was given a steriod before I went home.
Avatar n tn As I posted on another place in this web site: After 6 years and 10 doctors I finally figured out the cause of my random swelling, small places on a, foot, hand, lip, arm, throat, tongue like most others.. All caused by CORN. Anything with corn, corn syrup, corn breading (on fish or chicken) Problem is, it takes 24 to 72 hours from eating corn to swelling symptom, (usually 48-56 hours). I must read the ingredients and eat a corn free diet, most everything has corn in it.
1817071 tn?1366228243 I have had a ton of dental work done and I remind my dentist every time no epinephrine. Also something to be aware of...if you have a tooth crowned when they are doing the crown prep they use a string coated in epinephrine to retract your gum prior to making the impressions. It is equivalent to about 3 shots with epi. They have string that does not have the epinephrine so be sure to remember to ask if you are having a tooth crowned.
