I am 24 years old male I was recently diagnosed with Reiter's Syndrome (Reactive Arthritis). I am positive for HLA-B27 antigen. It's been almost one month since the first swelling and before that I had Chlamydia. My symptoms so far are swelling in knees, elbow, ankles, toes, wrist, fingers, and I think in my spine too, and of course, pain and stiffness. I didn't have any other problem from the list of problems that come with Reiter's.
...there were alot of things he could not do anymore. Since being on Enbrel, the inflamation, pain and swelling is gone. He's doing the things he wants to do and its because of Enbrel.
I understand why you are nervous about the side effects, but my dads experience has only been positive.
I have had moderate to severe RA for 5 years. Take Enbrel once a week and am supposed to take 5mg. injectible of methotrexate weekly. I had gone without the methotrexate for at least six months and have not noticed any difference at all. I am scared to death of the methotrexate. Can anyone explain why my doctor wants me to continue it if it does not seem to make a difference? I do great on the Enbrel by itself, but am sure there are reasons, I just don't understand!
Ya, my joints tend to stiffen and my fingers and toes begin to curl. Full body pain everywhere. Enbrel has been amazing, giving me a 90% normal life almost pain free. I’m scarred because I only have 1 more month supply before I need to refill it. My Employee based Ins copay was 25 bucks for the month. Now I am retired, it’s going to cost me 1,000 dollars a month.
The competition does sell versions of it (Remicade and Humira) but those are just as costly. Humira actually would cost me more.
I was diagnosed with Severe RA in 1999 and was prescribed Enbrel. I've been on it 2 times a week since then and have very good luck with it. No side effects and have to take no other medications with it, besides Vicodin when I have a flare up or severe pain. I'll be getting married this October and am curious to know if any woman out there have gotten pregnant and given birth while on Enbrel.
I am having the exact issue you describe, except I'm on Enbrel. Just started seeing an ENT specialist to try to get to the bottom of it. The Enbrel works for my RA when I can stay on it, but then I get sinus infection and have to go back off... it's a constant cycle. Constant headache behind my eyes and sinus congestion. I take Allegra D for sinus and Bultalbital (prescribed) for the headaches, but it barely takes the edge off. Been dealing with this for years...
A friend of mine has PA and has been taking Enbrel for years and she is in great health now. I started taking it 14 weeks ago after being so miserable for 4 years. I feel the best I have since getting sick 4 years ago. I urge you to speak to your Dr. about it. Take care.
I was in between jobs and had no insurance and had to stop the Enbrel for 3 weeks, within 2 weeks the pain and stiffness was back worse than ever. The price of Enbrel is $1500.00 monthly so it doesn't surprise me that the insurance company won't give you the 2 a week you need. Talk to your doc about the other 2 drugs and see if they will better help control your pain and stiffness. Keep me posted!
Hi everyone. I've been taking Enbrel for about 6 months successfully for my AS. I had to suspend taking it once for a sinus infection, but then I resumed. Now I have poision ivy, and my rheumy's office manager recommends I stop the Enbrel, but for poison ivy that seems extreme. Has anyone had a similar experience, or does anyone have any insights to share on this? Thanks.
weird, never thought that enbrel would be a cause of hpv. I have developed hpv before starting on enbrel. what connection is there between the two?
Hi. I've had RA for 17 years, on Enbrel for the last 8.5. I never wanted to go on MTX because the side effects scare me, and I enjoy a few drinks with friends. A new doctor has put me on it in conjunction with Enbrel because I have couple joints which have been causing me problems. Otherwise, I've been great on Enbrel. I am now in my 3rd week on MTX, and seveal joints are really flaring. I find this very depressing.
AROUND THREE YEARS AGO I WAS HAVING FLARE UPS AND MY DOCTOR ALSO ME ON ENBREL, WORKED VERY GOOD FOR THE RA BUT MY NOW MY THROAT IS ALWAYS SORE AND CONGESTED WITH PHELM. THIS YEAR I'VE SEEM NUMEROUS DOCTORS ENT, GENERAL ALERGIST AND EVEN HAD SINUS SURGERY FOR 30 GRAND, NOTHING FIXED THE THROAT PROBLEMS. I SEEM MY RA DOCTOR THE OTHER DAY AND ADVISED HIM I'M GOING TO GET OFF OF THE ENBREL AND SEE IF MY THROAT CONDITION IMPROVES. HE DID NOT THINK THAT WAS THE PROBLEM.
Recently, the RA flared up and my doctor added Enbrel. I have severe headches and feel like my heart is beating so fast that i get dizzy. The doctor thinks that this is because I am on yet another medication and my body has to adjust. Is anyone familiar with this drug? Has anyone gone as far as to have a second opinion for their RA? I just find it scary to give you one drug to have to counteract side effects with another. Then they add more.
I experienced muscle throbbing and pain near the end of treatment and apparently tx put my fibromyalgia symptoms over the edge and I was full blown fibro. A good rheumatologist is helping me manage my symptoms ...along with therapy and PT...hope this helps...
My primary physician has taken me off of ant-inflammatory meds because of the danger to the kidneys and told me to take pain meds to control the pain. Pain meds do not control the pain, either over the counter or prescribed and the stiffness in hips and knees and feet is affecting my balance. I asked if continues joint destruction would occur if I stopped the anti-inflammatory meds and he replied "no".

Have a real pain from PsA and have to start treatment with ENBREL which is biological drug and it suppose to lower my immune system .My rheumy told me that there is tinny possibility of relapsing after taking it..
All this time I thought that once you get rid of virus that is it . How comes it can relapse after 3 years ??? Goggling thru the net couldn't find anything than can give any proof for his theory.
Hi I have been on Enbrel injections for over 4 years and i can't praise the drug enough fantastic results - i have the chance to visit family in Australia for 4 months when i retire in 18 months time the only obstacle is my medication and how would it work with my getting enbrel injections and it is a long flight - is there a solution around this problem
I have had several lung infections over last three mts. Just out of hospital where boop was the only possibility until my lungs were flushed and bacteria was found. I have also been exposed to mold-a lot -in my aptm recently. No one could tell me if fungal test was back. There were no biopsies done- no masses,cancer blood clots. I have RA and had a staff infection last summer after stay in hospital. Lung infection and vulva ulcer. Months on heavy anti-biotics to clear it.
