Avatar m tn It also seems to make clear that the type of potassium salt you are taking (chloride, citrate, gluconate, acetate, bicarbonate, etc) does not matter. The only thing that counts is the amount of actual (elemental) potassium you are ingesting. For instance we take 595mg tablets of potassium gluconate containing 99mg of elemental potassium. This means that if I am willing to take 20 of these cheap little pills a day to get my 2000mg (2g) of potassium that is just fine.

Avatar m tn Recently, I tried a potassium gluconate supplement. I experienced rapid and dramatic reduction in all of my symptoms. This effect has been repeatable for 2 months. If I stop the supplementation, the symptoms return within a day. Severe, chronic symptoms improved: • Asthma and respiratory issues. • Nasal congestion. • Constipation. • Headaches. • Muscle cramping, weakness and pain. • Insomnia. • Palpitations. I’ve also suffered from unexplained osteoporosis since my twenties.
1618806 tn?1304734477 Salad binge?! I eat salads every day. LOL! But I'm highly concerned about the advice your dishing out about Ms. Dash. Ms. Dash IS NOT a salt substitute it is merely a salt replacement. There's a WORLD of difference between Ms. Dash and Morton Salt Substitute (for example) which is loaded with Potassium Chloride. If you take the time to read the ingredients on ANY Ms. Dash flavors, you'll find nothing but herbs and spices, there's absolutely NO potassium chloride in it.
617141 tn?1225706428 Transfer was postponed till I get better. Doctor gave me Lasix 40 mg to be taken once and Neo-K (potassium chloride) 500 mg twice daily for 5 days for now. My concern is that I ate two potatoes, one banana, a cup of yogurt, and tomato, all potassium sources today.

Avatar n tn Should I take Potassium gluconate or Potassium Choloride for diuretic induced hypokalemia. How much should I take. I have had leg cramps for the past 3 nights.
Avatar f tn Complete blood work showed potassium of 3.3 and CPK of 2707 and TSH of 4.7. No renal failure showing although my understanding is hyperthyroidism can mask renal problems. He's taking potassium gluconate 1/2 of 438mg tab twice a day for a week and 1/4 of 5mg methamazole once a day for 4 days so far. Is there anything else I should be looking for? His weight hasn't improved...never been a big eater.
1399363 tn?1462342610 Yes i know that but i was talking about papers showing BB could induce hyperkalemia. also BB inhibit renin release. "Insulin stimulates the movement of potassium inside of cells. Beta blockers cause hyperkalemia b/c they inhibit the secretion of insulin. With no insulin secretion, a masked hypoglycemia and hyperkalemia occur. Therefore the antidotes for beta blocker toxicity consist of glucagon and calcium gluconate. For the hypoglycemia and hyperkalemia respectively.

1118724 tn?1357010591 But elevated as well as too low potassium can be bad for the heart and cause arrhythmia. Potassium chloride should not be taken with some blood pressure medications such as losartan, lisinopril, and some others. Are you on any medication? If yes, write them here and I will try to check for you if they are OK to take with potassium chloride.

Avatar f tn Potassium is a chemical element and it is part of the electrolyte that should be in balance with other lytes to adequately conduct an electrical impulse that originates with the sinus node in the right atrium. The mechanism of action is not completely understood, but what is when a voltage (unit of potential for conduction) and electrolyte there will conduction and passage of electrical impluses.
Avatar m tn m wondering if you can or can not use something like Lo Salt that has potassium chloride in it along with beta blockers, and if so how much is recommended. I'm looking to substitute lo salt for some other high in potassium foods in order to cut down on my sugar content.
539156 tn?1281818356 Many months ago we had a discussion about the difference, if any, between cramps and spasms, and I never quite understood this distinction. In any case the word cramp sounds normal and spasm doesn't. Either way, it seems odd that so many people here have muscles just waiting to jerk into contortion, given the slighest opportunity, and often totally on their own.

Avatar m tn the closing and relaxing of a muscle is dependent on the four mineral horseman of function, calcium (Ca), sodium (Na), magnesium (Mg), and potassium (K). Sodium constricts and potassium relaxes, with Ca and Mg initiating each phase of the action. If an individual is low in potassium, it appears that that singular event of low potassium can be sufficient to permit a cramp to occur.
Avatar n tn she also got blood work done for signs of fatigue (showed up months before this incident) and her chloride and potassium levels were well above healthy. could this contribute to her period being late? please let me know, thanks.
Avatar n tn I am 61 years old, have a family history of severe heart disease, but I have a very healthy diet and have lived longer than two of my siblings (one died at 45 and the other one at 54,) and the remaining one has had a tripple bi-pass. I do have some blockage 40% in one and 20% in another artery. Something I read at the Dr. office this week is leg cramps can be the beginning stages of PAD.
199980 tn?1233797404 Some sources of potassiium Many foods contain potassium. All meats (red meat and chicken) and fish such as salmon, cod, flounder, and sardines are good sources of potassium. Soy products and veggie burgers are also good sources of potassium. Vegetables including broccoli, peas, lima beans, tomatoes, potatoes (especially their skins), sweet potatoes, and winter squashes are all good sources of potassium.
Avatar n tn I've always had low pottassium and always had to eat a banana everyday. I also have Graves Disease, had hyperthyroidism and had RAI (radioactive iodine) then a Thyroidectomy. I never associated the two. I thought my low pottassium was from heart issues being born with a heart murmur. Maybe it does both fall together. Just get on the bananas and take a pottasium supplement everyday until the levels increase.
Avatar n tn Mild hypokalemia could be treated with oral potassium chloride supplements and nutritional supplements like bananas, oranges, tomatoes, green leafy vegetables etc. The tachycardia at night is most likely due to anxiety and stress of an upcoming cardiologist appointment. Hope this helps. Take care.
