i had knee surgery at end of Dec. and am just now coming off the pain pills and am going nuts. I'm sure its the percocet but am alittle confused about the difference between Percocet and the oxycontin as they both have said....OXYCODONE... on the label is the oxy just a time release percocet?
- At dinner I take 3 shots vodka and a 10/325 Endocet. At night I I have one drink, 1mg Xanax, and 5/325 percocet. I go to bed early, before midnight. I dont sleep over two hours at once, up at 5am with the runs and withdraw next morning, go to bathroom, take shower, and start again. Duration of Endocet and percocet is one month. Alcohol is ten year. Xanax is 10 year. I do get two extra strength vicodins for DDD, but they hurt my stomach badly, so I take the Endocet and percocet.
This week she decided to put me back on Nortriptyline because it was more effective for sleep. And she also decided that I am to stop cold turkey Percocet that I was taking twice daily "because it can cause irritability and aggression". What? Can anyone guide me as to what I should do? I am already having reactions to God knows what...withdrawal or new meds...and now to stop taking pain meds...and that abruptly? I also take clonazepam and gabapentin at bedtime...help!
What is the difference between Oxycontin and percocet? I mean, I know Oxycontin is slow release, but percocet is Oxycodone and how is that different from the Oxycontin? I thought they were the same only, one was slow release and one was not, but there must be another difference... Right?
Percocet is the brand name of the generic drug oxycodone and acetaminophen and Vicodin is a brand name of the generic drug Hydrocodone and acetaminophen. Both oxycodone and Hydrocodone is a narcotic drug and are often used in combination with acetaminophen or APAP, a no steroidal anti inflammatory drug which helps in increasing their potency.
Just a quick correction...Percocet is oxycodone with Acetaminophen, and Percodan is Oxycodone with Aspirin, not Tylenol. There are other, less common combinations, like Vicoprofen, which would be Hydrocodone with Ibuprofen instead of Tylenol (Acetaminophen).
Vicodin, Norco, Lortab are all Hydrocodone.

taking endocet 10-650mg once or twice a day withamoxicillin 500mg three times a day, but causing a lot of overall weakness, upset stomach like gas, feel sleepy all day, constipated.

No my husband is the same way. Finished a 6 month treatment for geno 3 which did not work and is now on a new 12 month treatment. He is exhausted but goes to work cause he owns a construction company but most of the time is crashed on the couch. Can barely eat lately and is miserable - lots of weight loss also. His Dr has prescribed teh AD's which he rarely takes but he should and also recommended this round of treatment - Centrum with iron - to help fight against anemia.
I gave all the endocet (percoset 10/325) back to the doctor! If I had it now I'd definetly be taking it. I have thought about calling and seeing if I can get the endocet back or switch it out. They'll probably say they've destroyed it already as they're staring at the full $100 bottle in their disposal bin, but I've thought I might ask.
I am also thinking tomorrow I will ask for an earlier appt. Waiting until the 13th feels like forever to me.
His doctor is confident that he will be alright to test again Tuesday. They regularly check kidney and liver enzymes, and his are good. He never abused his medicine and only took his regular doses. I just hate to see him in pain. He has idiopathic peripheral neuropathy and I know it is painful because I have watched him for the last several years. My husband is a working, tax paying citizen who is not self medicating, and yet he still gets treated like a drug addict! Frustrating!
Your other medications are in no way contraindicated as a combination. The only difference between Percocet and Suboxone is that Percocet is a pure opiate whereas the Suboxone is an opioid receptor antagonist as well. My question to you is whether you trust your doctor and if not, why not? You need to decide if you want to continue to take his/her advice. Nothing in what the doctor recommended was questionable, so what is it that leads you to be nervous? Is s/he not open to your questions?
