467126 tn?1283144858 Pregnancy and tanning is always a touchy subject. Some salon owners don’t allow it, while others think it’s completely fine—in fact, many female salon owners say they tanned throughout their own pregnancies. What I hadn’t heard before was a question regarding the safety of sunless tanning while pregnant.
412873 tn?1329174455 Sunless tanning products may contain anywhere between 1 to 15 percent DHA; the higher the DHA level, the darker the tan produced. Manufacturers of sunless tan products claim that DHA is a simple carbohydrate sugar solution but a toxicologist who investigated the harmful effects of tanning beds disagrees. Even the FDA has not approved the use of DHA in spray tan booths. The FDA previously approved the use of DHA as an ingredient in tanning products but strictly for topical application only.
415867 tn?1323365503 However, if you use a fake tan spray or a spray-tanning booth, then you may inhale some of the DHA or erythrulose. We don’t know how it will affect you or your baby if you inhale the chemicals. To be on the safe side during pregnancy, try to stick with fake tans that you can apply by rubbing, not spraying. If you do want to use a spray, make sure the room is well aired. Also protect your eyes and lips with barrier cream or petroleum jelly.
Avatar m tn Hello, According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the most effective products available are sunless- or self-tanning lotions that contain dihydroxyacetone (DHA) as the active ingredient. Another popular form of sunless tanning is the bronzer. These powders and moisturizers, once applied, create a tan that can easily be removed with soap and water. More like make-up, these products tint or stain your skin only until they are washed off.
1126418 tn?1326165992 i've tried it and i love it. i don't really tan, which is good.. i grew up in florida and would look like a raisin if i'd been capable of turning a nice golden brown. and i turn orange from self tanners. this gives me a cooler (as opposed to a warm, rich) brown. never tried the cocoa powder/lotion combo, though. i'm convinced the bugs would come a runnin.. good luck!
5049711 tn?1364572195 Depends where you go, definitely ask a doctor but I know that the one by me uses a product that's purely a DHA protein so I'm assuming its not bad but I'm gonna ask my doc too cuz I'm a pasty mofo, but you can go in a tanning bed, if you go 3 times a week for no longer then 8 min your fine ( depending on the bed), if stick with the lower beds that produce more UVB rays ( the burning rays) because they produce more vitamin d which is essential for the baby, the only danger factor
Avatar f tn I havent taken prenatal pills yet because i am unsure which ones i want to take. Any suggestions/warnings? And also has anyone had anxiety since they found out?
Avatar m tn Got up the next morning, and applied protopic again, then went to the tanning bed, because I was getting ready to go off on a cruise(i've since learned that tanning is very bad for you, and haven't been back since!). After getting out of the tanning bed, I looked at myself, and my face was a deep shade of red that I had never seen before. At first, I thought I had just gotten burned from the tanning bed, and that it would go away. Boy was I wrong.
335728 tn?1331414412 The Dr seen I was a person who enjoys a tan and did not warn me and got in the tanning bed, a usual thing for me to do and because I go a lot I stay in for the maximum time allowed. The first day after I started this drug I went to the tanning spa and boy! was I burned. My husband got so upset he told me to stay out of them. Well I came about this information the painful way so thanks to your post someone else will be spared our pain. Thanks!
567683 tn?1216704277 I am glad they caught it in time, i have squamous cell carcinoma a type of skin cancer it is all over me. I am a red head with fair skin and freckles, everytime they take one off 5 pop up somewhere else. I have had radiation and freezing plus cutting nothing seems to work. I know it can go inside of you, it can go into your bladder, stomach, and lungs. I am having an endoscopy on wednesday. Don't lie in those beds they are worse than the sun my doctor told me.
458072 tn?1291415186 thing in the winter here where I live and it was suggested I take melatonin for it. I also was told a couple of visits to the tanning salon in the winter helps too to produce melatonin. I chose going to the tanning booth over a supplement. That's about all I know.
Avatar f tn Does ur prenatal vitamins have dha? Is it ok to take them tablets with dha? The one i take doesn't have it but im trying to get gummies to substitute but all gummies seem to have dha.
Avatar f tn Okay so my current prenatal vitamin does not have Dha in it...is it possible for me to take a Dha vitamin in conjunction with my prenatal vitamin?...if so what is a good brand to take?
874521 tn?1424116797 So I read these articles and it seems that Merk was sued in 2010. I have not read everything on this, but wouldn't you think major warnings would have come out about this 3 years ago. I wonder if removing the chip is an option Such a shame. This was the "Holy Grail" for identification. Seems the more we take care of our kits (chips, vaccinations, meds) the more harm can be done.
Avatar f tn So i visited a friend today and she looked at my prenatal vitamins that i had with me and was surprised they didn't have dha in them. She gave me some dha vitamins and recommended that i take them and continue to do so. My dr didn't mention dha. Am i alone in this?
Avatar f tn The FDA says that it is safer to have DHA from a non fish source. I say the DHA is straight from the fish and not good to take! I would not take it or stop. I take the one Enfimil makes and it is I think $11 a month from Walmart and it is from a none fish source. I would tell your ob you wnat another one if you don't want that one!
318269 tn?1241350235 I love tanning but would never do it while pregnant....I haven't even gone while TTC b/c I wasn't sure of the effects of it......Really, (and again, I LOVE tanning) it's not good for us, it certainly can't be good for baby......No point in risking it when they all kinds of lovely tanning creams now.....I just talked to my stark white Mom who is going to Costa Rica on Fri. and she used the Jergens 3 day tan ans said it's UNREAL....
Avatar f tn So I Bought prenatal pills and they don't have dha. So when I had my 1st Dr appt at 5 weeks he said buy dha prenatal so I have been taking them. I'm 20 weeks tomorrow and a few days ago I ran out so I been taking the prenatal pills without dha until I get paid. But I'm wondering is it even a big deal which pills i take since I'm out of 1st trimester?
Avatar f tn DHA is a kind of Omega 3 fatty acid (which is usually DHA+EPA) Omega 3 s are considered really beneficial for our brain and general health..and considered really good for fertility.. they're found in fatty fish or you can take them as supplements..
Avatar f tn One of my prenatal vitamins have DHA but no iron, and the other has iron but no DHA...The one with iron has a little higher percentage of vitamin C as well...which one should I take? If I take the one with no DHA is it ok to takr Advocare Omega Plex supplement on the side? Or should I take the vitamin with DHA and take iron on the side? These have me confused!
Avatar f tn Would it be a good idea to go tanning at a tanning salon? And regardless what tanning lotion is best to use while pregnant?
Avatar m tn no it is not harmful it is a must, but the quality and concentration of epa and dha must be very high at 2-3g daily (fish oil quantity is not useful check epa/dha), most products are scam with very low dha/epa so useless.
Avatar m tn I am with baby _ nature made + dha. Never made me sick either.
Avatar f tn I'm taking DHA per my Dr bc he asked me was I going to breastfeed and I told him yes!
