Cytomel and weight gain

Common Questions and Answers about Cytomel and weight gain

cytomel

Avatar f tn While on the cytomel, I was losing weight, about 5-6 pounds per week, (lost 23 pounds and was thrilled with this!) had energy, and was able to sleep through the night, which has been a rarity the last few years, and my boyfriend says I don't snore anymore!! I told the endos this that told me to get off the cytomel, that I was feeling so much better, etc. and they still said to get off of it immediately.
Avatar n tn The portion of your thyroid that was not removed is working the same whether you are on meds or not. Meds do not stop your thyroid from working. If you are not taking your meds any more, you will become HYPOthyroid again. Since weight gain can be a symptom of hypo, it's possible that you might gain weight. Weight gain is all very individual, so it's just about impossible to predict how your body will react. How do you feel now that you have been off meds for two months?
Avatar f tn There really is no other explanation for my weight gain. Looks like the doctor will lower my dosage of Levoxyl and keep me on Cytomel. I just have too much thyroid hormone in my body I guess? Synthroid made me feel really shaky, nervous, gave me dry mouth, etc. I felt fine on Levoxyl until I gained all this unexplainable weight and just recently have been feeling really bad, such as chest pains, shortness of breath.
Avatar f tn ve been complaining to my doctors for years (literally since 2003) about symptoms of fatigue, hair loss, inability to lose weight, and weight gain. Started testing for thyroid problems in 2003, but they only did the TSH test which always came back normal. Never did the free T4 test until 2005. I'm a concerned about pituitary problems as this is what i have read from various cites (mayo clinic and a couple of other good sites).
Avatar f tn Would consider a second opinion from a local endocrinologist to determine a safer and better replacement regimen and see if there is any other identifiable cause of the weight gain.
Avatar f tn potato, carrots, anything that grows below the ground I will have instant weight on in one day (and its not water weight) and takes a week of severe dieting to lose it. Any help would be greatly be appreciated.
Avatar m tn I was wondering if it common to gain an excessive amount of weight while exercising regularly and eating healthy. I am currently training for a marathon and running about 9 miles a day or more and I eat rather well. I can't seem to shed any pounds but actually have gained about 10-15 pounds in the last month. I haven't weighed this much since I gained the freshman 15 two years ago. I was back down to 148 over the summer but all of a sudden I am at 164. Is this common????
Avatar f tn I have reduced my calorie intake to dangerous levels but I am still putting on weight. I am starting to lose my mind a little bit and need some help! How can I keep the weight gain at bay until the cytomel leaves my system? What can I do to keep the weight off when everything I know (diet and exercise) don't work? How long until I should start feeling normal again?
Avatar f tn I feel so much better on it (but my costs recently skyrocketed!) and it helps my weight, sleep and how I feel overall as well as my bones and muscles. I am panhyopit. You are hypopit at this point?
Avatar n tn What will it take to lose weight while having hypothyroidism and being on cytomel? I know the side effects of cytomel includes weight loss......but how much time do you have to be on cytomel for to start seeing those side effects? I can use any help on this. Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn Im hypothyroid, last test has showed I have high RT3 so I switched from 130mcg synthroid and 1 grain armour TO 15 mcg Cytomel and 1 grain armour. I also did cortisol saliva test which shows im LOW in cortisol cortisol morning. 2.6 ng/ml. normal range. 3.7-9.5 >cortisol noon 2. ng/ml. normal range. 1.2-3.0 >cortisol evening. 1.1. normal range. 0.6-1.9 >cortisol night. 0.2. normal range. 0.4-1 the problem is I keep gaining weight, i have headaches, tired, feel like I have cold.
Avatar f tn 25 of generic Synthroid because I had several hypo symptoms - 30lb weight gain despite diet and exercise, extreme fatigue, very lethargic, anxiety attacks, very dry skin and dandruff, high cholesterol despite healthy diet, bloating, low body temperatures, shortness of breath, missing periods, hairloss and change of hair texture and extreme ADD. After a month of the synthroid - I had more energy and my period has always been normal ever since. The dry skin and dandruff went away.
Avatar n tn I am on 125mcg of synthroid and want to add cytomel because of still suffering from fatigue and weight gain. My physician prescribed 25mcg of cytomel and said to discontinue the synthroid. I cannot get into an endo until Feb. and would like to combine the two but am not sure what doses to take reducing my synthroid and adding the cytomel?
Avatar f tn I wonder why you are only on Cytomel and not a T4 drug as well. I would suggest you go to an endo and get on the right combination of drugs so you can feel better. Get your TGab and TPOab tests for Hashimoto's. I have Hashimoto's. I get the chronic sinus infections, simply because my immunity is lower due to my disease. I take Flonase and Zyrtec. That has helped tremendously.
Avatar f tn Yes we need to see your most recent thyroid labs with ranges please. I am on Synthroid and Cytomel both. And once you find a level of Cytomel that works, you can have it compounded into a time release, so it stays in your bloodstream at a constant level. The only time patients normally go on Cytomel only, is if their reverse T3 level is high.
927140 tn?1244210051 It seems many doctors automatically assume that an overweight person is always over eating and not exercising, and that hypothyroidism does not cause any significant weight gain. The reality is that even a 10% reduction in basal metabolic rate due to hypothyroidism can have a significant effect on weight.
Avatar f tn My doctors suggest that I take Phentermine but im taking levothyroxine 88mg and Cytomel 5mg due to thyroidectomy 3 years ago and I have gain weight due to hypothyroidism. Have anyone tried the phentermine while on levothyroxine and Cytomel?
Avatar n tn 50 mcg tablet, when i started taking medication my weight was 136 lb ,in one year I have lost down to 119.lb.i have stoped taking the meds at times and i gain weight. I am at my wits end what should I do iget so tired and weak when i take the med.I also take amitriptyline 50 mg(FF),omeprazole 20 mg cap(FF),metoclopramide 10 MG (FF),could one of these medicens cause me to have a false reading.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your input. I hope this works. I just started Tuesday but I am so inpatient. This has been goin on for 5 months. My weight gain is increasing by the week and I am exhausted all the time. Gimel-I don't know what a PM is --let me know.
Avatar m tn I had some of your symptoms before I was put on a combination of levothyroxine and Cytomel. I was extremely depressed and having non-stop panic attacks. My starting dose was 75 mcg. generic Levothyroxine and 25 mcg. Cytomel......this stopped the depression and panic attacks within 3 days, when no anti-depressant (including Wellbutrin) helped at all. I now take 100 mcg. levo and 50 mcg. Cytomel, and just raised the Cytomel by 12 and 1/2 mcg without experiencing the symptoms you describe..
Avatar n tn You would not be taking synthroid and cytomel for hypER........ Fatigue, exhaustion AND weight gain can actually be symptoms of EITHER hypER or hypO........ most people who are hyper will lose, but there are some that gain.......Listing other symptoms might be helpful. That said - IF you were originally dx'd as hypO and started on synthroid - you would be in about the same boat I'm in...........I was dx'd hypo in Jun '08 with a TSH of 55.51; Free T4 of 0.4 (range 0.8-1.
Avatar f tn Hello About 6 weeks ago I saw a new Endo, my third one and (she) listened to my complaints (weight gain, massive tendonitis in feet and legs)and generally feeling off health wise to this appointment (I brought proof) of my weight gain see I lost and kept off 120 pound for over 6 years until my thyroidectomy (cancer) 13 months ago my original Endo(male)said my issues are in my head and I should see a specialist and take diet pills for my weight.
