cytomel

Avatar f tn Hi, Thanks for the informative response re the debate that I've had with "the battle of the endos"...lol... My TSH is 2.82 My T3 is 118 My T4 is 6.8 Also, estradiol was extremely low at 14, along with vitamin d at 17 (which I am now supplementing the d), but don't want hormone replacement therapy as my mom died at 51 with breast cancer and my sister died at 64 with stomach cancer (I'm 48).
Avatar n tn The portion of your thyroid that was not removed is working the same whether you are on meds or not. Meds do not stop your thyroid from working. If you are not taking your meds any more, you will become HYPOthyroid again. Since weight gain can be a symptom of hypo, it's possible that you might gain weight. Weight gain is all very individual, so it's just about impossible to predict how your body will react. How do you feel now that you have been off meds for two months?
Avatar f tn There really is no other explanation for my weight gain. Looks like the doctor will lower my dosage of Levoxyl and keep me on Cytomel. I just have too much thyroid hormone in my body I guess? Synthroid made me feel really shaky, nervous, gave me dry mouth, etc. I felt fine on Levoxyl until I gained all this unexplainable weight and just recently have been feeling really bad, such as chest pains, shortness of breath.
Avatar f tn I have no explanation for the weight gain -- however, the cytomel dose is excessive and the TSH of 0.00 reflects that you are HYPER on the current combination of cytomel and levothyroxine. Would consider a second opinion from a local endocrinologist to determine a safer and better replacement regimen and see if there is any other identifiable cause of the weight gain.
Avatar f tn my numbers are: TSH 2.3 (.40-4.00); Free T4 .73 (.70-1.8); Free T3 3.1 (2.3-5.0) My doses: Tirosint 50 mcg.; Cytomel 12 mcg/day My thyroid was destroyed roughly 8 years ago; the only problems I have is hair loss and weight gain - I don't overeat, I exercise - I don't eat processed foods - I could eat 1200 calories a day - good calories and put on weight. I grow most of what I eat. Help! I am 65.
Avatar f tn I have reduced my calorie intake to dangerous levels but I am still putting on weight. I am starting to lose my mind a little bit and need some help! How can I keep the weight gain at bay until the cytomel leaves my system? What can I do to keep the weight off when everything I know (diet and exercise) don't work? How long until I should start feeling normal again?
Avatar n tn Hi ....Is there anyone on cytomel for hypothyroidism? How long does it take to work? I have put on about 10 pounds slowly even though I have been exercising atleast 3 times a week for 5 out of last 6 months. Then finally about a month ago I got diagnosed with hypothyroidism. At least now I know the reason for weight gain. I just started on 25 mcg of cytomel. I can't wait for it to start working. Just this week I started burning at least 500 calories a day by exercising ....
Avatar n tn I am on 125mcg of synthroid and want to add cytomel because of still suffering from fatigue and weight gain. My physician prescribed 25mcg of cytomel and said to discontinue the synthroid. I cannot get into an endo until Feb. and would like to combine the two but am not sure what doses to take reducing my synthroid and adding the cytomel?

927140 tn?1244210051 Did you start taking the phentermine? How did you react to it in combination with the synthroid? I have been on phentermine for a little over a month because I had problems shedding post-partum weight, but then found out that I also have hypothyroidism and was prescribed with Levothyroxine (by the same doctor and kept me on phentermine). I was overwhelmed when my pharmacy printed out a long *WARNING OF DRUG INTERACTION* sheet telling me of all the possible side effects etc...
Avatar f tn My doctors suggest that I take Phentermine but im taking levothyroxine 88mg and Cytomel 5mg due to thyroidectomy 3 years ago and I have gain weight due to hypothyroidism. Have anyone tried the phentermine while on levothyroxine and Cytomel?

Avatar f tn Hello About 6 weeks ago I saw a new Endo, my third one and (she) listened to my complaints (weight gain, massive tendonitis in feet and legs)and generally feeling off health wise to this appointment (I brought proof) of my weight gain see I lost and kept off 120 pound for over 6 years until my thyroidectomy (cancer) 13 months ago my original Endo(male)said my issues are in my head and I should see a specialist and take diet pills for my weight.
1662185 tn?1302741426 Most people that have a TT go Hypo afterwards until they get the correct med dosage, your weight would depend on how soon your Md prescribes the medication and how close he comes to your optimal level of medication, Cytomel is a strong T3 medication and it should be started out in small doses, twice daily, Each persons metabolism is different, it would be hard for anyone to predict if you would gain weight or not, I am sure your diet is regimented already, and I would think you would do fine as
Avatar n tn Hi kimberlyn1234, I am on both Synthroid and Cytomel. I was just reduced to 75 Syn and remain at 25 Cytomel. My doctor explained it to me like this: Synthroid is a synthetic T4. Your thyroid works to turn this into T3. Cytomel is a synthetic T3, so it goes right to work without having to go through the "processing". I didn't start on Cytomel but it was added a few years after my diagnosis because my T3's were still low.
Avatar n tn With the exception of this terrible prospect of continuing to gain weight. Thank you for your response. I have listed blood test results below. FT4- 1.17 ref range 0.82-1.77 T3, Total 126 ref range 71-180 T4,Total 7.9 ref range 4.5-12.0 TSH 3rd Gen 0.915 ref range 0.450-4.
Avatar f tn The only thing that changed in my life was the Synthroid and then the weight gain began. Why do the Doctors deny Synthroid is causing my weight gain? This discussion is related to Weight Gain and Big Bloated Stomach on .35 Synthroid.
Avatar n tn I have been on Armour thyroid 60mg during this time. Everything was great until last summer I have been starting to gain weight approximately 10 lbs. and feeling really tired. My doctor raised me to 5mg of cytomel but I didnt feel any better and my free t4 came back low (0.48)so he changed me to 90 mg of Armour in June. I lost 3 lbs but didnt really feel any better still tired. I just had my blood work done and my TSH came in at .04 (from 0.41)free t3 2.8 (from 3.
744962 tn?1270942038 My symptoms improved but I never felt right. One symptom that remained constant for me was weight gain. My Dr. who is a great doc for listening to how I feel and not just going on blood test results, would increase my T4 to try and help me lose weight. This would send me into overdrive (I would be nervous, tearful, shaky etc) but I would still gain weight. We noticed this a year ago and I started on a T3/T4 combination. I felt better within days. Better than I had felt in three years.
Avatar f tn Hi, I met a lady at the gym last week who happens to have thyroid disorder as well. She is hypo, however she looks great, she told me she used to have a hard time loosing weight even exercise daily. Her doctor precribed Cytomel at low dose with Synthroid and she said she started loosing weight easier. I heard a lot of hypo patients complain of weight gain or unable to loose weight, but don't hear much of patient taking Cytomel. Is there a reason why doctors don't prescribe Cytomel much?
Avatar f tn ve been complaining to my doctors for years (literally since 2003) about symptoms of fatigue, hair loss, inability to lose weight, and weight gain. Started testing for thyroid problems in 2003, but they only did the TSH test which always came back normal. Never did the free T4 test until 2005. I'm a concerned about pituitary problems as this is what i have read from various cites (mayo clinic and a couple of other good sites).
Avatar f tn I believe I was at 105 at the time. I'll ask my dr next time I communicate with her about the rt3. So you think the Ft4 is fine on the 90 Armour? Are there any symptoms I should look out for on taking too much ft3? So far, I can't tell any difference and it will be a week on Friday. I'm just hoping that this weight will come off. Swear I gain weight just looking at food these days!
Avatar f tn 25 of generic Synthroid because I had several hypo symptoms - 30lb weight gain despite diet and exercise, extreme fatigue, very lethargic, anxiety attacks, very dry skin and dandruff, high cholesterol despite healthy diet, bloating, low body temperatures, shortness of breath, missing periods, hairloss and change of hair texture and extreme ADD. After a month of the synthroid - I had more energy and my period has always been normal ever since. The dry skin and dandruff went away.
Avatar n tn What was your lab range for the free T3? Your TSH should be more supressed being on the Cytomel....hmmmm.....your free t4 looks good.
