Avatar m tn Troy aikman, Jim nantz (Former QBs, now announce in the nfl). **** Butkus (former nfl player who used the terrible helmets! Now in his 70s on nfl countdown). Chanel sonnen (former ufc fighter, now broadcaster) I really could go on and on. But these are people who took blows to the head for years upon years before we really knew about the how serious head trauma is.

Avatar f tn John's concussion occured over a year ago. Is it too late for treatment? What are the treatment options? He has also been on quite a few medications to deal with this sleep problems. Could any medications that are either used to help with sleep or used to promote day time wakefulness cause hperosmia?
Avatar f tn Guess what guys.! I got a concussion. ): Done with football for the season and sports for the whole YEAR!!! Hopefully we can let me do discus at the end of the year...NOT A CONTACT SPORT....They are talking about taking me out of football for good. Which I understand...but I got the concussion off of punting which I NEVER do except for tht one time.
Avatar m tn Right, I know the pressure buildup wasn't CTE, but rather the concussion symptom. My worry is that I will develop alzheimer, dementia, or a level of CTE earlier than those who did not play a sport like American football. I respectfully disagree that playing high school football will not increase your chances of incurring brain damage. https://www.bu.edu/cte/our-research/case-studies/18-year-old/ Here was a case that BU studied from a high school football player.
271792 tn?1334979657 I guess he started waving his winkie around again. So sad, he is going to leave the NFL a loser in my book. And he is lucky if his wife hasn't thrown all of his crap in The Mississippi River by now! Sarah, do you have the inside scoop on the putz?
163305 tn?1333668571 Many doctors think the best treatment for fibromyalgia is thyroid replacement hormones, since fibromyalgia was not even a condition until the mid 1980's when it was decided that TSH would be the "gold standard" for thyroid testing and because the range was too wide, many people who had previously been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, were now left with no diagnosis...
Avatar f tn Usually, such headaches and dizziness may result due to post-concussion syndrome and may last for weeks or months after the injury that caused from the injury of a fall, vehicle accident, or sports injury. In addition, patient may experience either migraine type or tension type headache. For treatment approach, first it is essential to get (MRI) done to detect the brain abnormalities after that injury.
Avatar n tn I have had patients with this condition. However, there is no specific treatment for post-concussion syndrome. Management usually is directed at individual symptoms. This is why it is recommended that you have regular follow-ups for proper management of your symptoms. Take care and best regards.
Avatar f tn Hi, The symptoms that your husband describes may be those of Post Concussion Syndrome. Post-concussion syndrome, is a set of symptoms that a person may experience for weeks, months, or occasionally years after a concussion, a mild form of traumatic brain injury. Symptoms may include headache, difficulty concentrating, irritability etc.
Avatar n tn I fell backwards 1 month ago, suffered a concussion, and have lost my sense of taste and smell. I have learned that this is caused by nerve damage. I am also lightheaded and my ears are somewhat plugged(ear pressure). I was wondering how long a nerve takes to heal itself, or does it? Is the dizziness a result of the injury or a seperate issue?
Avatar m tn This condition is a complex disorder in which a combination of post-concussion symptoms like headaches, tinnitus and dizziness are experienced. There are no specific treatment for post-concussion syndrome but treatment for the individual symptoms you experience is made by your doctor. Regular follow-up with your doctor is highly recommended. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn I'm in highschool and during soccer i got a concussion, the doctors said my brain was fine in a cat scan but ever since I have had chronic migraines and headaches for a year now. I saw a neurologist and am on amitriptyline and zolmitriptan. It has reduced my headaches from everyday to four times a week and my migraines from twice a week to once a month. i found that also pushing myself through physical exercise helps too. I still cannot attend school though and am homeschooled as a result.

His blatant emotional manipulation, obvious agenda, and sickening use of innuendo made me want to lose my breakfast. Good for the NFL for not making an exception for this a**hole's dreck.
Avatar f tn Hi, Thank you for your question. After such head impact such kind of neurological symptoms are common due to extent of damaged part of brain and may remain symptomatic or progress in future. Although any sure success cure can not be assured in such cases, but symptomatic relief or it may decrease with period of time, physiotherapy, avoiding any triggering factors and life style modification help you in certain extent.
Avatar n tn You cannot make a diagnosis of glaucoma from that data. The diagnosis would depend on many other factors: age, family history, visual fields, corneal thickness, stereo optic nerve photos, gonioscopy, NFL OCT are the most important.

Avatar m tn This was a routine MRI, so we thought, after a concussion. There are only three things this child cares about. 1) Football, 2) Football, and 3) Competitive target shooting. I feel so bad for him. All he has every dreamed about since he was nine was to play in the NFL. Now, how do you tell him that he won't even have a chance too?
Avatar f tn It is abundantly clear that in some cases concussions may result in seizures. That is not a "theory". It is a medical fact. It doesn't require "discussion". But not all concussions result in a seizure. There can be varying degrees of damage depending on the severity off the blow, where the impact takes place, and from resultant swelling, and if there is a delay in seeking medical attention. A "concussion" is not a "concussion".
Avatar n tn Your symptoms could be due to migraine or PCS ( post concussion syndrome ) because of the concussion that you had years ago. Please go for an MRI brain to know the exact cause and consult a neurologist for treatment as a delay could be dangerous. There are chances of getting a stroke. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards !
Avatar f tn t done anything like that since, until I got the concussion and a few months into the treatment etc I started cutting again and feeling suicidal. I didn't tell anyone at first because I was worried about my work finding out. Could this all be from the concussion?

I'm still going to my neuro , ortho also my family doctor . this is very depressing .
230262 tn?1316645934 well the NFL season is about to start. We've had a mixed bag of responses on the Pool this year so I have no idea how this will go...but I'll step up and list the teams no later than Friday and let's see what happens. I hope alot of people will join the pool this year! It sure was fun last time! So are ya guys ready for some football???
Avatar n tn Please consult a neurologist. The treatment is to remove the compression. You have to discuss the best treatment option with a neurologist, which can range from medication to physiotherapy to traction, cervical collars or even surgery. Alternatively you can visit a chiropractor or a physical therapist and learn some exercises which you can do to relieve the compression. Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage.
Avatar n tn I was hit from behind when playing ball hockey and I suffered a concussion after I went head first into the goalie. I had a cat scan done and it was normal immediately after the hit. Its been 11 months and everytime I try a light exercise for example walking around the block for about 20 minutes I get headaches. I used to swim, jog and play sports regularly and now since the accident I have gained a lot weight and don't know what to do to stay active.
Avatar f tn My friend recently got kicked in the head at a soccer game now whenever she moves her head the inside of her head hurts where she got kicked. Is this just a concussion or worse? She doesn't want to go to a doctor until after the season is over.
Avatar n tn I have a pretty good knot on my head still and know I had a concussion (dizziness, fatigue, nausea/vomiting and headache). Well.. today my head still hurts, but I am noticing pain in my ear as well still. That began last night. Since I do not have insurance, I am wondering if I should be concerned and seek treatment. Please advise!
