Common Questions and Answers about Concussion prevention mouthguard

concussion

Avatar m tn I've been using a dental mouthguard at night for the last few years because my dentist said I was grinding my teeth at night. The first one broke, and the second one has a large crack in the same location. I've also had TMJ problems, mainly in the right jaw joint, for many years. A couple years ago these got much worse, and I had more jaw pain and migrane-like headaches.
Avatar f tn He has had severe headaches every day since I haPpened and even nausea a few times since then. Just wondering if he could have a concussion and if we should get it checked out...
Avatar f tn After research, seeing different doctors and realizing that I had experienced previous problems with this (and had stopped wearing night mouthguard), I went to dentist for a new mouthguard. I have bruxism (grinding of teeth, mostly at night) (a common problem) and have had it for years. It leads to TMJ, which can cause many different problems, swelling, pain, numbness, deafness, blindness, etc. It is so important to wear your night mouthguard.

Avatar m tn Its possible your mouthguard may not fit properly anymore and its causing the soreness. Try to put the mouthguard in hot water for about 30 seconds to soften it up and put it in your mouth to see if you can reshape it. It might work I'm not sure about Tom of Maine's. It doesn't contain fluoride which is a good anti-cavity agent. I might suggest trying to use the Sensodyne without whitening as the whitening is slightly more abrasive. Use the biotene mouthwash.
Avatar n tn b12 deficiency, according to my knowledge, has nothing to do w sensitive teeth.
Avatar m tn I was involve in a very bad car accident 02/10 and have no memory of the actual wreck. the hospital deemed I have a severe concussion and then also diagnosed me with Post Concussion Syndrome. I am currently also experiencing back and neck problems as well as getting a collarbone checked out for a possible fracture. My question is does coffee effect concussion and PCS recovery. And how long does recovery generally take.
Avatar n tn Other treatments include a niteguard/mouthguard. surgery or dental work to change the bite in more extreme cases. talk to your dentist.

Avatar f tn Loss of consciousness isn’t required for a diagnosis of concussion or post concussion syndrome. Post concussion syndrome occurs within first 7 to 10 days and until 3 months. Symptoms are variable including dizziness, fatigue, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, loss of concentration and memory, light and noise sensitivity, headache varying from a tension type to cluster headaches. You need to consult a neurologist immediately.
Avatar f tn I am a concussion survivor. Could you get a concussion if your head stops suddenly from a fast movement? Yesterday I was in a hurry and running and pushed the door in front of me. It stopped abruptly which caused my body to stop too. Could this cause a concussion? I'm scared because I am recovering from a concussion already. Does it make me more prone to brain injury? Please, help me!

Avatar f tn Hi, i wanted to know why i bite pen and pencils to the point to nearly destroying them. I have heard that it is condition given on KIDS went they want to get sensorial input but i'm seventeen and i even practice a sport (a lot of sensorial input) and my trainer often scolds me for chew my mouthguard (i've destroyed two). A teacher has told me that it could be anxiety or stress (because i move my legs a lot when i sit) but i really don't know.
Avatar f tn I got a concussion about 3 months ago at a cheer competition when a girl fell and elbowed me in the face. I didn’t get knocked unconscious but I blacked out for 3 or 4 seconds. Immediately after my performance I went to the athletic trainer who performed an assessment and asked what my symptoms were. Immediately I had a headache, I saw halos around lights, and I felt like I was in a dream state.
Avatar f tn Had a concussion several weeks ago with instant headache & nausea which have gotten worse. Already had 2 CT scans without contrast, showing they were normal. The headaches and nausea are pretty bad daily, have gotten worse since the concussion. I'm now scheduled for an MRI scan, should I do it with or without contrast. Have read so many negative things about getting it with the contrast.
Avatar f tn He made me a mouthguard to wear at night because I do grind my teeth really bad, and he said I have severely worn my teeth down from the grinding. I also clench a lot both at night and during the day due to all the pain I'm in with my pain conditions and also from stress of all these pains. The mouthguard has not helped any of my pain or other symptoms at all but he told me to wear it anyway to protect my teeth from the grinding.
Avatar f tn I had a metal iron shelf fall on my head at work 4 months ago, got a concussion and ended up with post traumatic concussion syndrome. He needs to go to the doctor!!!!! He needs to have a CT or MRI to check for headbleeding then he needs to see a neurologist and let them run test!!!!! It's so important. They told me if I hit my head again I'll have permanent damage.
Avatar n tn The mouthguard is not intended to stop the grinding while your sleeping. It is there primarily to protect your teeth from excessive wear. The resuption of the grinding maybe involved with some type of stress that maybe a causitive factor. If you clench in your sleep your will cause discomfort whether you wear the appliance or not. If you kept any of your muscles in a contracted state you would certainly have discomfort.
Avatar n tn sounds like your bite is off.. you should go back and have them adjust your bite...
Avatar f tn Ok so about 7-8 months ago I suffered a concussion and was off work for quite a time I am getting back to it now. My question is can suffering a concussion cause depression and suicidal thoughts as well as self harm? Basically when I was a teenager I was suicidal and a cutter and haven't done anything like that since, until I got the concussion and a few months into the treatment etc I started cutting again and feeling suicidal.
Avatar f tn I have begged him to go back to a doctor to get his concussion checked out but he refuses. Does it sound like he needs to seek medical help for the concussion considering he never received any after-care and continued to drink on the concussion? Its been about 10 months since this happened so it is likely that he could still be suffering from the after affects of the concussion? Thank you for your time.
Avatar f tn It is abundantly clear that in some cases concussions may result in seizures. That is not a "theory". It is a medical fact. It doesn't require "discussion". But not all concussions result in a seizure. There can be varying degrees of damage depending on the severity off the blow, where the impact takes place, and from resultant swelling, and if there is a delay in seeking medical attention. A "concussion" is not a "concussion".
