My son is twenty nine. He lives at home and is ADHD. He is prescribed Concerta. 2X 36mg.per day. He is also perscribed 2X 5 mg. ritalin per day. He took ritalin SR. during high school, but I gave him his meds every AM so he would not forget. His dose was much lower then. Since college he binges on them when he gets the prescription filled. He then crashes and sleeps for a couple of days. He can't see a problem with his behavior.
My son has been on concerta 72ml for yrs. My Dr started drug testing to make sure it is in his system. I make sure he takes it every morning I check mouth and tongue. He has had 3 test in 3 weeks and all 3 come back neg. Any help as to why they are coming back negative is greatly appreciated. I am at the end of my ropes. And he needs his meds to get thru school. Please help!!!!!!
I started taking 18 mg of Concerta once daily about 2 weeks ago. Oddly I have noticed two things:
1) I can no longer have my daily/morning coffee without severe nausea (even the pharmacist didn't have it as one of his warnings).
2) Despite the fact that it keeps me awake to the point that daytime napping is not possible I still feel exhausted most of the time which doesn't make much sense to me.
Has anyone had anything like either of these things happen while they were taking it?
If a patient is used to being on a stimulant drug for some time, withdrawing that drug would cause a general slowing down of the body, hence the extreme fatigue, lack of motivation and focus. Your body is going through an increased response of side effects from withdrawl, as you've been of this medication for a year which is why your symptoms may be more exaggerated. Stimulants are also known to provide a quick solution to lifting the mood, so depression is a side effect to watch out for.
My daughter is 5 years old and has ADHD. She recently went on the drug Concerta, then her PCP prescribed cetirizine as well for hay fever that I didn't even realize she had. On a routine cardiology check for the Concerta meds, the cardiologist discovered my daughter had PACs. The cardiologist took her off all of her meds for 10 days and did another EKG. She still had the PACs even off meds. Now my daughter is on atenolol 2 mL per day, Concerta, and cetirizine all together.
As far as I know, the only two are intuniv and concerta. They use different formulations. No clue which is better. I think it probably depends on the individual. Both do take a while to take effect (compared to a stimulant). If you google them, you will be able to see lots of anecdotal posts on how it worked for that poster or their children.

Hi. Concerta is the same drug as Ritalin, I believe, and could well be the cause of your wakefulness and loss of appetite. I take Adderall, a similar drug, to cope with fatigue, and it does dampen my hunger, for sure. It's a good consequence for me, if unintended. I take 20mg of the extended release type each morning, and can feel it wearing off by mid-afternoon. It doesn't affect my sleep.
It's possible your dosage is too high, so a consultation with your doctor is order.
I have child that was also on Concerta 36. There are two types of this medication. Concerta and Concerta CR which is controller release, I believe it was called. However, I found that concerta is not a very effective drug for dealing with ADHD.
You might want to have the school give her the second dose at 1pm at school, this way it will avoid the medicine lapsing while she is at school.
i have adhd and have been on concerta for 8 years and i have had many symptoms from it. while on the medication i had loss of appitite,headackes,soreness,mood swings,thoughts of suicide,couldnt fall asleep, depression,and anger. but when i try to come off of it i suddenly became very hungry all the time, weak feeling,and couldnt control myself at all. what is causeing this to happen and how can i make these symptoms stop so i can finally come off my medication?any info is appreciated.
I took 108 mgs of the ADD pill concerta. (2, 54mg pills) I woke with an irregular heartbeat, and it seemed like it was pounding. I also felt weak and light headed. How long will this last??
Zolpidem (Ambien), Methylphenidate (Concerta), Clonidine, and Strattera. First, I do not believe my son should have ever been diagnosed w/ ADHD, I have done the research and written a paper as well as currently going through a publication on an article with my wife (not my son's mother) who is an assistant professor of counseling mental health.
s really a sight to see what the drug Concerta has permanently done to me. I had a seizure due to them a while back and every since then I have twitched and vocally ticked. This was due to the fact that they put me on Concerta and Lithium and it had a reaction against my body. I'm not saying that it was due to the drugs but they should really go into more detail when they are telling parents or people in general about how these drugs will help their child or them.
The book as well as any research study will tell you that stimulant therapy does not lead to drug usage in later life. In fact, the percent of kids who do abuse drugs is much higher for those children who were not on stimulant meds (if they have AD/HD).
I don't see ticks listed as a side effect of concerta. But that doesn't mean that it could not happen. This certainly should be discussed with your doctor.
my 8 yr old is on concerta 27mg she has been on it for a month and just started complaing about her chest feeling like it was so tight she cant breath and her heart herts when her chest tightens...the nurse said give her tylnole and take her to her doctor in the morning not to give her her pill ..is she going to be alright we had a really bad experiance with the vyvance and the folcolin i cant let my baby go threw that again...how can i help her in school and not hert her while doing so?...
Concerta is a amphetamine based drug, basically speed. I adopted a boy, where his bio-logical father was labeled Schizophrenic, and his bio had alcohol and pharmaceutical drug dependencies. The Pediatrician issued a prescription of Concerta to him, and it has a "black box" warning by the FDA, specifically stating do not administer this to patients with alcohol or drug abuse history, and it is "not" a cure for ADHD.
now hes in 1st grade in acontained class the last 5 months have been hell for me.hes been going through physical agressive behavior in school so bad that they are making me look at diffrent schools next week because he has been suspended due to his behavior. he just started concerta the last 5 days but iv been through about a handfull of different med including bipolar medication. hes very sorry for hes behavior and will ask me mom why am i bad i wanna be good.
How long have you been on the Bupropion? It can take 6-8 weeks to have any effect on your body..but that drug in most cases is not used to treat ADD and studies have proven that its not very effective in treating ADD. If you don't mind me asking why is it that you would need both Concerta and Adderall rather than just taking Adderall alone or looking into Ritalin?
