recently diagnosed with COPD/emphysema. hospitalized three times: finally determined that i'm allergic to sulfate based albuterol, combivent, all of the usual "suspects." i'm now on advair (one week= 115 ) and doing okay - except the only rescue inhaler i can tolerate is primotene mist. just took an oximeter test - came out 86-87. i think it's too soon to go on oxygen, until we see if advair works. but i worry about the advair too.
I have been using Combivent for about a month together with Asmanex to treat my cough-variant asthma and have had pretty good results. However, the first inhalation of Combivent always triggers a major coughing spell (sometimes it's so severe I almost vomit or my ribs hurt). Are there other bronchodilators that might be easier to inhale and still be effective? Or would using a nebulizer help? I've heard there can be adverse side effects with a nebulizer.
It is unusual for a person to be taking oral prednisone for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), especially in a dose as high as 20 mg daily. That dose puts you at risk for a lot of steroid side effects, such as muscle weakness, bone thinning, cataracts, fragile skin, hypertension etc. You should ask your doctor why you need 20 mg of prednisone. You may also want to consult with a lung specialist about this and other inhaled medicines available to people with COPD.
Does anyone know if an inhaler ( I use combivent) can aggravte PACS and PVCS? I had breakfast this morning and then used my inhalers and my heart started doing some weird pvcs and pacs anyone else ever have this happen?
Yes, it feels like I don't need the combivent regimen since I started the flovent.
I use the combivent mainly before exercise with 02. . Unfortunately my insurance is minimal
and I only get to see my pullmanary doctor who proscribes these meds, once every
six months. Next I see him I will have a list of questions; partial derived from the

I use this new combivent inhaler 4 x a day so how long does one inhaler last and how often does it get refilled.
My pulmonary specialist just gave me an Advair Diskus and increased my Albuterol breathing treatments to 4-6 daily and my Combivent Inhaler every 4 hours. I almost died from an asthma attack last weekend. I had emergency heart surgery in June and have been having arrhythmias so I'm on a heart monitor for this month. I understand that Advair causes heart palpitations. Since I'm already having trouble with my heartbeat, I'm afraid to try the Advair.

He told her to check into a unit and get off the meds except the anti rejection meds. Before she saw him (last week by the way) she had made up her mind to get off all of it anyway. The likely reason for the shingles is an ortho gave her 3 steroid shots in a 2-3 month time period for very severe pain as her "hamstring" was torn loose in her pelvic area.
I have PAD as well as pain in legs from fibromyalgia. Would a TENS unit be safe and probably helpful for my leg pain (especially calves)?

Advair and Spiriva is a common combination of meds for COPD patients. However, you should also have a rescue inhlaer containing some form of albuterol. Combivent is another option used by many COPD patients. It contains albuterol and ipatropium. Combivent may be off the market in the US though as the EPA has banned the use of CFC's propelants in inhalers. I don't think they were able to reformulate this medication to fit these new laws.
s sometimes a productive cough. I was told I have asthma and I get sinus infections. I use an inhaler (Combivent) but that doesn't stop the coughing. It will get so bad that I will start to gag. One interesting thing is that when I lay down, I have no inclination to cough. Could it be my tonsils? Should I see an ENT?
You might try asking your doctor to prescribe Combivent/Duoneb. This is an already prepared mixture of Albuterol and Ipratropium. It is available as an inhaler, as well as a nebulizer solution.
Although you can ask your doctor to be sure, Pulmicort should probably be taken separately.
Before you change your dose, you should do it gradually... my doctor had me start by removing only 1 unit of my morning dose of Lantus, and then that night I took 1 unit of Lantus. That meant that I was only 1 unit shy of my total for the day. Then I waited 2 days to see what the pattern would be (you could even wait longer to see what happens). Then I did the same procedure again, removing another unit from my morning dose of Lantus and adding it to my evening dose.
but thinking about it a bit backwards....Effective dose is measured in Sieverts, which is a completely different (but related) unit that takes into account both the dose of radiation recieved and the sensitivity of the tissue irradiated based on the stochastic effects of radiation on the tissue in question.
If you have a 20 mGy exposure, then that is the maximum dose any tissue in the path of the radiation can recieve.

Not sure if that is correct, but I had 1 puff (not the full dose of 3 puffs) of Combivent about 4 1/2 or 5 hours before the test. Would that make the numbers completely unreliable? Seems like it wouldn't have that much affect, but I'm hoping someone knows. Do I need to retake?
