After six years post MI and ef varying between 25-35%, my cardiologist now feels that I should shift from aspirin(150)+clopidogrel (75) to warfarin. Two years back he did tell me that he is double minded on whether to put me on warfarin. But this time he appears to be very sure and has insisted me to go for warfarin.
His justification is "that is what literature says".
I have no AF or valve problem.
s like if I want some Clopidogrel (another form of anti platelet med) I could ask for either Clopidogrel or Plavix, Plavix is the brand name the drug company trades the medication under.
Hi I am 54 yo female, ex ICU nurse so know something about the heart but this is new territory for me. I am one week post close trying not to lift too much in weight or strain but have had central chest pain for several days now. Not acute, just aching and heavy. Some brief runs of AF and slight left sided heart sensation like pinching but the central pain is the most disconcerting. Could this be the clopidogrel? Am also more tired than before the procedure!

The general consensus on Plavix is fast changing. It was once thought that there was no evidence in benefits after one year, but evidence is now proving the opposite. Once the medication is stopped, many patients start to develop blockages in the stents. The trend is fast tracking towards "for life". I was initially told 1 year to 18 months, now I've been told plavix is for life.

Based on the level of risk, most patients are either started on aspirin or Warfarin (Coumadin). Clopidogrel (Plavix) is an anti-platelet agent and acts via a different mechanism than coumadin does (coagulation pathway). Adding Clopidogrel to aspirin is a guideline that holds a Class 2b (see below) recommendation, and usually considered in those in which Warfarin is unsuitable due to patient preference or physician's assessment on a patient's ability to safely sustain anticoagulation.
There are newer blood thinners that can be given in pill form without the need for an injectable blood thinner. These include rivaroxaban (Xarelto) and apixaban (Eliquis). You can discuss with your doctor.

my husband was taking asprin and he used to take plavix, it was the cloplidogel blood thinning tablets that they stopped,i am sure they should have winned him of them,as 1 every other day and taken blood tests, to make sure the blood was not clotting. is this right ??????????? do you know what this test is called that you mentioned ?
I am on Plavix for my Heart Attack and my husband is on Coumadin for a blood clot he had 3 years ago 1 month after he had broken his ankle and had to have surgery. I say he should be off the Coumadin already. He went back to work full time after the broken ankle and also lost 60 lbs. He says the Plavix is just as bad.

In February 2014, my doctor had asked me to stop taking Clopidogrel, and to continue taking the rest of the medications, which I did. My calf pain started to occur in April of 2014. The pain is in the middle of my right calf and always starts at the same spot.
Ive only heard of proton pump inhibitors reducing the effect of Clopidogrel (plavix) but only by a tiny amount. I do have to question though if Zantac is a proton pump inhibitor anyway? Isn't it just a H2 receptor blocker?
