clonidine for sleep aid

Hello all ! I am back after a few days of rest and detoxing (11 days now!). And i feel really great today!! I'm still a little worried about sleeping though. Anyone have any sleep aid suggestions? Something OTC. I took my last clonidine last night, and am trying not to think about losing sleep tonight.

You may have to lose a few hours sleep until your body adjusts to going to sleep on its own. But clonodine can be addicting too.

Clonidine helps with the sweats and GI problems with WDs..it slows your body down a bit and helps the anxiety as well...like penelope said...

Have you tried Melatonin? Its a natural sleep aid that is sold at any pharmacey or drug store. its cheap and it works. Good luck..

i have high blood pressure (and clonidine is a blood pressure med), but my doctor is mainly prescribing it for me as a SLEEP AID to try to keep me off of the benzos for sleep purposes (which have always worked so well for me!)....i'm curious about two things though.....one, how much has anyone taken strictly for sleep purposes? and two, have you had ANY problems stopping it if you want/need to?

s just horrendous! I got a better sleep last night after 1 Dramamine and 2 Simplex (a sleep-aid combo with valerian & paciflora), but it still didn't come until 2 a.m. Hopefully, over the weekend it will get better yet, so I can function at work on Monday. Thanks to all of you!

Yes they will help.I took clonidine which helps with a bunch of different symptoms and a benzo as well which helps w/the awful anxiety.I did c/t used those2meds,immodium&took otc sleep aid(didnt take benzos for sleep because I didnt wanna need them to sleep if that makes any sense i took them during the day only).Those made my w/d a lot easier.

Hell take some imodium it can calm as it is a narcotic. Clonidine has worked for me for short period of time. Go with the flow as best you can.

Does anyone have info on Clonidine? My daughter is in Medical detox and they are giving her this during her detox. I'm just wondering if it is another addictive drug or if it is just an aid in the detoxification. I would assume they wouln't give her something addictive but you never know.

Going cold turkey starting tomorrow and have everything listed for the Thomas Recipe, and some Clonidine to throw on top of it all. I've been through this before and the sleep issue is what drives me crazy!! Is the Valium supposed to help with sleep, or should I try to get a sleeping aid to help with this? I don't want to throw to much **** into my body, but I also want to get some sleep. I've tried Flexeril and Benedryl in the past with no luck.

He cannot sleep, the doctor suggested putting him on clonidine to help. Has anyone had any experience with taking clonidine as a sleep aid while on vyvanse? Also, my son is extremely short of breath when doing any physical activity. He takes 50 mg of Vyvanse daily and was wondering if anyone has experienced this side effect with Vyvanse. Thank you.

Congrats on ripping off that patch. I to came off of those and it was not pleasant but like the others say..you can do this one day, one hour, one minute at a time. Just be good to yourself and keep posting for plenty of encouragement!!!!

Tylenol Pm for me. Or at least the store brand.

Unless you are in pain, you can just take Benadryl. I started with Tylenol pm but realized I didn't need the acetaminophen because I wasn't in pain and I didn't want to put unnecessary drugs in my body. The icky thing about Benadryl is that it's an appetite stimulant, and for me, very addictive because i've had sleep issues since high school (about 6 years).

There is a product that I have found for sleep that might help someone here, it is called "Relax and Sleep" by futurebiotics. It is all natural and has Valeran and Melatonin among other things. You should be able to get it at a health foods store. It worked for me. Hope this helps someone.

I just switched to 3rd shift and I'm finding it difficult to sleep enough during the day. Is there a sleep aid that I can safely take while pregnant. I'm currently 14 weeks if that makes any difference.

Lavender oils or a spray can help:) they are natural and won't hurt you or baby:) good luck and hope you get some sleep soon

if u r on methadone then tapering off with ur drs help is advisable..ask him for a safe drug to sleep..many use clonidine to help wds and sleep..phenergan is another drug that is not addictive that may help u sleep..talk to ur dr..what is ur current dose of methadone?

1mg at 10am, 4 pm since i started and trazodone 100mg at night for sleep... anyone have experience with these? ive heard clonidine if you just stop taking it it can spike your blood pressure... and trazodone is addictive? i dunno.... anyway any comments would help.. i was gonna start today by reducing the trazodone in half and tomorrow cut back to just one clonidine a day for 3 more days... sound alright?

He was having a very difficult time sleeping and clonidine relaxes him enough so that he can sleep for about 4 hours at one time, before we were lucky if he slept for 2 hours at once during the night. There are side effects because it is used to lower blood pressure and it might cause some weight gain. I guess I don't have an opinion, good or bad, about clonidine. We are trying it as a place to start.

I drink a minimum of 2 liters of Pepsi a day and completely destroyed any chance of normal sleep. I have used a otc sleep aid since I was 18 yrs old. That would be only 2 years if I were the hot beach babe from Florida...lol. So, back to reality...I've been doing this for a lonnng time. I don't even want to try to humor myself by trying to get a nights sleep without something. That's all I take, and the Pepsi is not the cause...... Clonodine....1mg and tylenol pm 21/2 tabs.

I am doing this alone too, I choose not to tell my husband, 3 step kids, my friends, or family. You can make it through on the clonidine, immodium, and sleep aid...but only take the sleep aide when you are having insomnia...otherwise try to tough that out too.
