has given me 10 days of clindamycin to be taken 3 times a day at a dose of 450 mgs. this is fine, i can take clindamycin with no ill effects.
HOWEVER, i have read that this drug is not commonly used to treat std's as there are so many better options. Is clindamycin going to work??? Thanks.

Also, the infection has been treated with numerous antibiotics (amoxicillin, flagyl, omnicef, augmentin, clindamycin), and all seem to help at first, but only clindamycin has lasting effects. Not even augmentin worked. Any idea on what kind of bacteria would respond to clindamycin but not augmentin?
ve read indicates that it is very harsh on the digestive system when the body process it (all medications have a toxic byproduct, which causes side effects, but normally this amount is minimal) and bowel symptoms are a frequent side effect of this medication. went to the dentist and he said the infection had gone into my tissue. He put me on Clindamycin on wed.. the lump is still there and the pain had subsided until today. The pain is now really bad. How long does it take for the antibotics to work? have an appt. to have tooth pulled out on the 14th. How long should I give the lump to go down before going to ER for Iv antibiotics?
Under absolutely positively no circumstances should you be drinking alcohol and taking Clindamycin. Alcohol is a solvent and besides other effects breaks the molecular bonds on the antibiotic, destroying it's usefullness. Drinking is a good way to develop an antibiotic resistant infection.
And by the way so far so good no negative reaction or side effects taking clindamycin at all. I know they say that even if it was to affect you could have in weeks or months after you stop but I feel totally fine, never felt nauseous, no sulfur taste in my mouth and taking probiotics still. Dentist wanted me to stay on clindamycin a week after the first round finished.
about a year ago i was proscribe clindamycin and ever since then i been having problems i was taking it after i got my root canal done i was taking it four times a day of 300mg one day i had uncontrollable diarrhea that was orange i kept taking the the medication for a few more days and i kept on having diarrhea then i stopped taking it. it took about a week to stop having diarrhea but then my pooh started to have mucus in it.
