Avatar n tn To make a long story short, I have been to doctors 7 times since tooth extraction for aches face, jaw, neck, ears clogging, upper left arm aching, swollen glands under chin, as well as two chest colds, and also diagnosed with sinusitis. I am now on my 5th round of antibotics in 8 months. And each time I finish I feel good for a week or two and the symptoms return.
Avatar n tn Hello! I started out with an abscess around my lower left bicuspid. Dentist insisted that the tooth had to come out. I told her that I've never had a tooth extraction while having abscessing going on, and she said it was fine. Tooth was pulled and was sent home with an Rx of Clindamycin (150mg), 4xday. Infection got worse. Dentist, then used a lazer to open and drain the infected area. Several shots (7-8) of novacaine was needed to numb the area.
5789562 tn?1374459029 So I had a wisdom tooth extraction(32) that was complicated. The tooth had to be broken in order to remove and the nurse had to hold my jaw in place while the dentist struggled to extract the tooth. Its been 5 days already and the swelling, bruising and pain are excruciating. I just finished taking all the antibiotics the dentist prescribed and I still can't eat anything solid. How long should I give it before seeking medical help for the continuing swelling and pain?
Avatar m tn I recently had a wisdom tooth extraction and was prescribed Clindamycin to prevent the extraction area from becoming infected. I was prescribed this medication on 5/28/2014. I was directed to take it 3x a day until it was all gone. I took it for about a week straight. I noticed while I was on the medication that I had very severe episodes of diarrhea and stomach cramping. I stopped taking the medication as of yesterday.

My cheek is the size of a golf ball. My ear, lymph note is killing me as well. My jaw won't open all the way either. My gums and teeth around the extraction area are hurting as well. Avatar m tn The swelling has not subsided yet even though he was on penicillin for 9 days and started clindamycin 2 days ago. Any ideas why the swelling has not gone away yet?
Avatar f tn Thank you for your help. I am sitting here close to tears because I just called the dentist and he said since the penicillen didn't work, the only other alternative is Clindamycin. I really do not know what to do. I could deal with some discomfort, but my experience with Clindamycin was horrible. I just know if this infection is not cleared up by the 24th, the oral surgeon will not extract these teeth and the misery is just going to go on and on.
Avatar f tn I forgot something to explain that I saw a root fracture line in X-ray but that tooth was not mobile. And patient refused to take an extraction so I chose RCT.Now.I really want to know the cause of this RCT failure. I advised some medicinel (Ampiclox 500mg for 7 days Metronidazole 200mg for 5 days) 3 times a day. Patient already taken all these medicines. Please give your expert opinion and management.
Avatar n tn I had a wisdom tooth & cyst removed 2 days ago (09/19/12)--left lower side. Outpt surgery under general anesthesia. The wisdom tooth was horizontal next to a cyst---the crown of the wisdom tooth was pushing against the tooth next to it. Not in to much pain, I'm taking clindamycin & oxycodone. Since the extraction, I have only taken 4 pain pills. Of course my face is still swollen, which is to be expected, but my tongue on the left side is still numb.
Avatar m tn I went to ER and they gave me IV antibiotics and a script for Amoxicilian, during the other RCT and extraction treatments I was given Clindamycin. I visited my oral surgeon and he did a panarama xray and didnt see anything out of the ordinary with the teeth. He suggisted I visit my entodonist to verify I dont have a cracked root ot tooth. He couldnt say why I had swelling in my cheek.
Avatar f tn I came across this post while searching for a remedy for my tooth ache. I hope all is well with you now. Your post is almost four years old. I took ibuprofen 3 caplets of 220 mg and cephalexin 500 mg and got some relief after an hour. I also bit into half a clove of garlic with my hurting tooth. I slowly/very gently chewed on it. It is sort of hot and gives a burning sensation but it helps.
Avatar f tn My poor husband had his impacted wisdom teeth removed. He has developed a bone infection and now the doctor's office who treated him is backpeddling and saying that he has the "flu." They were the ones' who told him he had the infection to begin with. He is in ALOT of pain, nausea, very tired and overal in pain everywhere. He is on antibiotics - Amoxocillin, but i am concerned it is not enough.
Avatar n tn I have been on amoxicillan before having the wisdom tooth removed and right after and then on penicillan after the extraction of my molar next to that. I have stitches and I think my muscles in my gums are what is aching from the suitures. I take motrin every 6 hours and am trying to gradually reduce the amount of motrin I take to reduce the pain. I am presently doing 400mg every 6 hours. I think that once the suitures are removed maybe the pain will calm down.
Avatar m tn His thoughts were of infection in spite of the fact that I had been on antibiotics (penicillen) at the time after the wisdom tooth extraction. He prescribed another round of antibiotics this time clindamycin. Started yesterday and already feel a difference in the pain. Still there, but much improved. Another day should be very telling. At any rate, I already scheduled to meet with my oral surgeon for a 2nd opinion at my dentists suggestion to see if he has any further insight.
Avatar n tn After the removal, I had very severe tonsillitis for about 4 days. On 3-15-07, I had my right wisdom tooth removed because it had also begun to give me problems (severe pain and a swollen face). When this tooth was removed it had not fully erupted and needed to be cut out. Due to my ongoing infections, my antibiotics were made stronger (from cephalexin to clindamycin).
Avatar n tn he said if i was interested i could come back and discuss options for correcting it. what kind of options would i have for fixing that kind of problem?
Avatar f tn I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed on Monday with IV sedation. I was given 800mg ibuprofen every 6 hours, vicodin 5-325 every 4 hours. On day 3 I was in excruciating pain with huge hard lumps on the sides of my face that hurt so I went back to the dentist and he prescribed me x2 150mg of Clindamycin every 6 hours. I weigh around 150 lbs, 22 year old female, 5'3.

Avatar n tn Not all antibiotics work well for everything. Usually for a tooth abscess, we prescribe amoxicillan or clindamycin. Also, be careful with how much ibuprofen you take! It can be hell on your kidneys! I'm afraid it may be time for a root canal or an extraction on that tooth. With that much trauma, it just may have finally had enough. There are vitality tests that your dds can do to see just how much life that tooth has left.
Avatar f tn What antibiotic is better to take for a tooth infection/ absess tooth Ciprofloxacin or Bactrim?
Avatar n tn If two health roots are preserved, the tooth can function well for many years. It appears that you had rct redo and periapical surgery already, if you were my patient, I would do root amputation. Root amputation is generally not associated with post-op pain. However, cheek swelling is commonly encountered. If you are concerned about post-op pain, premedication with antibiotics and NSAID are helpful.
