Common Questions and Answers about Citalopram normal dose

Avatar f tn Yes. Also, weird pressure in the head. Are you tapering up slowly onto the drug or did you start at the full therapeutic dose?
Avatar m tn I hate taking medicines which only seems to make my anxiety worse. I am already on 10 mg of citalopram a day for my depression and take it every night. So when I had an attack earlier today took half of the lorazepam (.25) instead of the full dose being the weirdo that I am. That was four and a half hours ago. Knowing my doctor knows I am on both of these medications I forced myself to take my citalopram now before bed.
Avatar f tn i took my first 10 mg dose last night and i feel awful, more anxious than i was before.i want to stop taking this medicine. do you think i will suffer withdrawals after one dose? has anyone had any success with this drug?
Avatar n tn hi, I've been on citalopram for 5 weeks now for my anxiety. I upped the dosage from 20mg to 40mg a week ago but have just been feeling mind numb since. is it possible for the meds to take longer to start working?
1302779 tn?1287405029 Citalopram is prescribed for a number of disorders, the primary one being depression. The dosage schedule in the PDR for depression is: 20mg daily am or pm, may increase if needed to 40mg/day after 1 week; maintenance; after 6-8 weeks of initial treatment, continure for 24 weeks (32 weeks total), reevaluate long term usefulness (maximum dose 60mg) Fibromyalgia.....40mg for 4 weeks Hepatic dose/geriatic.....20mg may increase to 40mg/day if no response Panic disorder.....
Avatar f tn You might want to talk to your Dr about trying you on something else. What dose are you on? Some Drs will start you on a small dose and work up to a higher one while others will start you on a high dose. We're all so different and react to the same meds differently. If this keeps up for another couple of days call your Dr and ask to be taken off this med and tried on something else. You can't keep vomiting and getting dehydrated.
Avatar n tn it may take the edge off the panic attacks, what dose were you on before? i was on Citalopram for only a week, it gave me side effects, but i was only on 10mg, funny thing is my anxiety started to go and i felt better mentally but i then developed side effects to it that were too much.... what a kick in the f***y eh.... Maybe the dose you were on before wasn't enough for your body. If you go back onto it maybe the dose could be increased to suit you more.
1110049 tn?1409402144 I think you'll get more responses on the anxiety and depression forums. I take it, but a low dose as I started tapering off a long long time ago and had to stop because of health problems that keep coming and I don't want to be in withdrawal facing them. It hasn't worked for me, but it was a long shot since my biggest problem now is what quitting Paxil did to me -- I didn't take it before that.
Avatar n tn hi, I've been on citalopram 20mg for just under 3weeks for my anxiety. just wondered if anyone had any good results from this medication and how long it took to work?
1257808 tn?1322762215 Please read all side effects on the meds you take. Always go with the lowest dose that works for you. Many pdoc's just randomly increase a med for no reason at all, disregarding that the lower dose works. The more of a med you take, the more chance of side effects. That's not to say you won't get any side effects on any dosage. Hope this is helpful.
Avatar f tn I had a many questions for my pharmacist, and even called the manufacturer of Wellbutrin, which was the first drug that I tried, unsuccesfully. I found the mfgr rep not useful, as they have to discuss only what the FDA approved the drug for during the trials. The person talking to me seemed surprised, (as far as I could tell on the other end of a phone line when I said I had anxiety issues more than depression. She said she would make note of my comment that it might be used for anxiety too!
Avatar n tn I have been on citalopram long term for 12 years however after a really severe depressive episode my mood has lifted a bit but my anxiety has been elevated as my doctor decided to change my dose 6 times in 8 weeks. I've been on an even dose for 5 weeks now but things haven't really improved, I was given diazepam but I was resistant to take it because of its addictiveness.
Avatar m tn s very typical (common even) to experience some short lived side effects (like the ones you describe) after increasing your dose of Citalopram. The side effects should start to improve after about a week, maybe a little bit longer. I would recommend just giving it some time, and of course, keep your doctor abreast of the way you feel. Also, just like when you first start an antidepressant, these meds take time to make noticeable differences in anxiety.
Avatar m tn I missed 3 days of my 20mg Citalopram prescription (which I've been on for years). I missed because I didn't refill in time. Anyway, SO FAR, I feel better than I have in I don't know how long. The medicine has always kept me very even-keel, but too much so. I never cry much or get depressed, but I don't get as happy and excited as I used to either. I'm pretty tired of not being my silly, happy self.
Avatar f tn Hello everyone I started having severe anxiety attacks two month ago, though I have suffered with anxiety my whole life. I have been on Citalopram for four days now and the side effects seems to be increasing. I am on a small dose, one quarter of a 20 mg tablet. I am suppose to go up to one half of a 20 mg tab today but am afraid to. I am jittery, have headaches, am groggy but panic when I try to sleep, have heat flashes through my upper body, my eyes feels strange...the list goes on.
Avatar n tn My doctor prescribed me Effexor XR and I got my prescription filled but before taking it I decided to do some research about this drug. The withdral and side affects scared me so I decided agains this drug. Then doctor priscribed me Citalopram and I've been taking it since. I have been taking citalopram 20mg a day for about 3 months. At the time of my visits to the doctor I had an insurance that covered my drugs, now I don't have my insurance any longer.
Avatar f tn s now been 4 weeks since I took my last citalopram and nothing has changed. How long can the side effects from the citalopram affect the Wellbutrin?
589461 tn?1286432865 Have been on Citalopram 20mg for about 10 weeks but had my dose doubled to 40mg yesterday, is it normal for me to feel completely spaced out? Am feeling really doped up today, and am struggling to do anything, i know that i need the higher dose as the lower dose was having little effect on my moods in the last 2-3 weeks, i am extremely tense and am finding it difficult to relax, and having trouble sleeping.
Avatar f tn Hey..just made this profile as after two years of suffering depression I finally got the courage to go to the doctors yesterday and he said I had servere depression and anxiety and prescribed me on Citalopram 20mg .... Avatar f tn Hi all, I'm a sixteen year old girl with really bad anxiety and OCD. When I was a little kid, I had a phobia of choking for four years, which got so bad that I stopped eating solid food entirely, and had panic attacks if I was around "choking hazards" (small toys, beads, etc). It was mainly about breathing, not choking itself, since I was also very scared of drowning, suffocating, having a heart attack, etc.
Avatar f tn I was recently on Citalopram 20 mg and went a week on 10mg and then went cold turkey and now i have so many side effects i just want it to go away! Can anyone help me????
Avatar f tn Hello, My doc has me starting citalopram for severe anxiety attacks. She has me on one quarter of a 20 mg tab for four days, then a half tab for four, three quarters for four days and finally a full twenty. Has anyone else started like this? The doc wanted to help me with side effects since I am very sensitive in the stomach. Will starting this slower make the theraputic effects take longer to show. I am desperate to feel normal again. I am on .25 of xanax to help with the transition.
Avatar m tn re on a low dose and only have been on this med for a short time so you most likely will not have any withdrawal. Do talk to your Dr though to see if you need to taper. I really don't think you will.
Avatar m tn Hi, I been a user of citalopram for the past 4 years. Recently this past year I have noticed that it hasn't been working quite as well for me like it has in the past. I now feel like it doesn't work for me anymore. I feel worse and heavily depressed more than ever before in my life. I was wondering if anyone else has gone through this? and if so which different med worked for you?
