Avatar m tn 1 mixture of (S)-Citalopram and (R)-Citalopram]; Escitalopram [(S)-Citalopram) is a pure enantiomer. The dosages for Escitalopram are typically 1/2 of those for Citalopram, and there are fewer side effects, suggesting that most side effects come from the (R)-enantiomer.'' Basically escitalopram is the new citalopram with less side-effects and requires only half the dosage and I think it is the reason for it's cheaper price. -http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar n tn hi how long does citalopram take to leave your system.
Avatar n tn hi, I've been on citalopram for 5 weeks now for my anxiety. I upped the dosage from 20mg to 40mg a week ago but have just been feeling mind numb since. is it possible for the meds to take longer to start working?
Avatar f tn Hi just wondering if anybody is/has been prescribed citalopram for anxiety and how they got on with it?
Avatar n tn when the doctor said 200 was the maximum he accepted that. He does seem to be doing well, but I am worried. what chance is there of his ever getting off of it, or at least onto a lower dose?
Avatar f tn I'm completely freaking out. I have General Anxiety Disorder and I don't think my medication is working. I've been on Citalopram (20mg) since March but my panic attacks are becoming more frequent, I'm sweating, trembling, my heart is beating super fast, I have really bad nausea, and I'm either sleeping too much or not at all. I'm terrified I'm going to fail my exams because I've been missing so many classes due to these symptoms. Help!
Avatar f tn We usually suggest counseling in conjunction with medications for maximum benefits. If the citalopram is not working maybe you can try another medication that would act on other other monoamine transporters. you can always stick to a SSRI and try Zoloft, it is a bit different than citalopram by improving connection between both temporal lobes. Another solution regarding medication would be to try Wellbutrin.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with OCD when I was 9. I have been on Prozac, Paxil, Lexapro and now Citalopram for 16 years. At this point the citalopram doesn't seem to be working anymore. I have increased my dosage to 80mg a day and have added xanax about .5 mg 2 to 3 times a day about 1 month ago. I am very depressed and I'm worried about forgetting things. I'm worried about getting alheizmers disease. I need to go to see a neurologist and have some tests done.
1900997 tn?1321659956 Well, you are 11 years older, so some changes to your heart in relationship to the Citalopram may have occurred. In addition, other medications, OTC and Prescriptions, supplements, etc. should be considered. Here's an article that gives a balanced view of your concern, though not predicating it on long term use of Citalopram. If you note in the article, concerns of the elderly are expressed concerning QTc prolongation in relation to dose and age.
Avatar m tn please help ive just gone onto citalopram have gud days and bad slightest thing mkes me feel down think i just need someone to talk too xxxxxx
Avatar f tn I have been on Levothyroxine for the past 5 years or so, and recently my new doctor increased my dosage from 88mcg to 100mcg, due to my blood work results. I also take Citalopram 30mg for anxiety, and Xanax as needed (rarely). I have been taking the new dosage (100mcg) for about 3- 4 weeks now. I am experiencing a huge flux in anxiety (it was always pretty stable before since I have been on the Citalopram; I haven't had to take Xaxax in over 6 months).
Avatar f tn I've been prescribed to citalopram and am still reducing my dosage of clonazepam(due to seizures). Is it safe to take the two together or should I wait until I'm completely off the clonazepam? I have no allergies that I'm aware of. My doctor was super busy and I forgot to ask if I should stop the clonazepam. Any help is appreciated.
Avatar m tn Both citalopram, (Celexa) and escitalopram, (Lexapro) are SSRI's and both have, as unlabeled uses the control of panic. They both also have CNS side effects of anxiety in the beginning stages of treatment. You say you've been on the citalopram for approximately 5 weeks? It can take up to 35 days for citalopram to reach "steady state" in your blood, which means you won't begin to feel any real relief from your depresson for possibly a bit over a month.
Avatar m tn How long have you been on citalopram(aka Celexa) which takes up to 8 weeks to get a full result and what is your dosage? I would do therapy and skip the Celexa if possible because your issue is straightforward (although that doesn't mean you will be able to get rid of your obsessive paranoia, at least it is something a therapist can get right into immediately instead of trying to figure what causes your anxiety) , however this is between you and your doctor.

Avatar m tn But when i came back to london I ran out ofthe medcation and they said that the maximum standard dosage they can give me is 20 mgs of citalopram. I wasnt quite convinced. But thats all they will give me. I dont understand why he wont take me seriously, I was barely able to communicate with him and couldnt sit properly because i felt like i was going to fall off the chair. And this was a home visit and i was that trippy.
990744 tn?1249281999 My fiance and I are trying for a baby. I am on 20 mgs of Citalopram and 3 mgs of Risperidone. Is this an okay dosage to be on while you are pregnant? I read it is okay but to watch for neonatal side effects, which are quite scary and seem traumitising for the child. If I get my citalopram perscription reduced will it still have neo natal effects on our baby?
Avatar m tn About 6 months ago I was very constipated so I went to the ER and they did xrays on me and told me I was just constipated from anxiety. I saw my regular doctor and got put on citalopram 10mg. It did nothing for me so I went back recently to up the dosage and also to see why I was getting constipated again. My doctor told me to take 20mg and to add fiber into my diet. I think I went a little overboard will the fiber which made me very gassy and hurt my stomach.
1131131 tn?1275108488 I had the same problem with Citalopram (Celaxa). The same symptoms after 2 doses of 10mg. The shaking was so bad I had trouble talking (stuttering), and suicidal thoughts. My doctor took me off them immediatley. I am not talking any meds and it took 5 days for the symptoms to go down to being manageable. I am on Prilosec which I believe interacted with this drug. The doc said no but I found on wikipedia it states ....
Avatar n tn However, it is common practice to increase medication dose to help control blood sugar (the maximum dose of metformin is about 2500 mg/day, in split doses). Some people do take their medication before eating. Please discuss changes in medication dosing with your md. You may also find that restricting carbs (eat more fat, non-starchy vegetables instead to replace the calories) may help in reducing your blood sugar.
Avatar n tn Central nervous system- and/or respiratory-depressant effects may be additively or synergistically increased in patients taking multiple drugs that cause these effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients. MANAGEMENT: During concomitant use of these drugs, patients should be monitored for potentially excessive or prolonged CNS and respiratory depression.
Avatar f tn Hi, all - I've been absent from the boards for a while, but now I've been dealing w/ my 'new' meds for a few months. I'm on Citalopram (10 mg) and Valium (2 mg daily, 3 if I need the extra at night), in addition to BP meds (atenolol and lisinopril, and a baby aspirin.). I've been seeing a psychiatrist now for about 7 months, and because I'm pretty sensitive to the meds, she has been very good about taking things slow.
