It would be nice if anyone would answer if cipro is an ok antibiotic for a tooth infection. I had a crown come off and dentist said I needed root canal. they tried but said root was too narrow and I had to go to specialist. They gave me a prescription for amoxil for one other tooth, but I didn't6 fill it because it was just sensitive one day.
But now the one they were working on has flared up and the gum is swollen and red.
Thank you for responding to my question. It has been 12 days since I had root canal on #14. Took Cipro for 7 days. I'm still feeling lpain/discomfort on #14 and try not to chew on that side of mouth. How long does it for root canal to heal? Can and do root canal fail? What are symptoms of failed root canal. At the time of root canal Endodonist put temporary filled on crown. I have appoint with regular dentist for permanent filling in a week.

History: mother who is diabetic, copd, hypothyroid, has stomach issues excess acid and gout, and had breast cancer a year ago with a few benign tumors removed from breast since.
She has some congestion in chest, low grade fever for 20 days now of 98.8 to 99.9 and extreme fatigue. Fever comes at 2pm every single day, she takes tylonel and it goes away only to come back the next day!
It's difficult to describe. It feels like the tooth is being squeezed and twice it was a sharp pain which doesn't last long.
A dentist said I needed a root canal 8 yrs ago, but I have had no problems with it til last week. No pain to cold or pressure. It is starting to darken near the gums, but it is an "eye tooth" and I'm 42 years old. Wouldn't it be strange if the tooth was in trouble for the past 8 years and I had no symptoms?
Cipro is usually prescribed for something like a uti and the Diflucan can be given with it to keep a woman from getting a yeast infection. The combination of these 2 meds are very common and don't immediately convey an std. If she already has a yeast infection then ues wear a condom. I would ask her what the doctor prescribed her the meds for and go from there.
I recently had 2 infected teeth removed (4 days ago). It was a wisdom tooth and a molar next to each other. It seems to be healing okay. The pain in the extraction site and my jaw is getting better by the day. I have a hard ball of swelling there that feels hot to the touch. My question is, the tooth next to the ones that were removed was also in very bad shape - a lot of decay.
Thanks doctor. i am 26 now, my wisdom tooth teethes almost completely. is it safe to remove it. i am scared of jaw fracture :-). beside this wisdom tooth, there are 2 other ones but they are ok, not hurts me at all.
If you have a dental school near you, you can get the tooth removed for about the same price as a stronger antibiotic. If you have already taken a week of amoxicillin, another dose will not likely help, the bacteria you still have are already resistant.
Otherwise, I would call your dentist back, tell him about your infection/swelling, that you cannot afford an extraction this week, and you need a different antibiotic. Also offer to make an appt.

i went to the dentist due to tooth pain and throbbing, he said the tooth was infected and needed a root canal, he put me on penicillin for two weeks, then had root canal, still on penicillin, a couple of days later the pain was real bad. i called him at home and told him the penicillin wasn't working, so he called in keflex 500mg. took it for 5 days, seemed to get a little better, now 6 days and i'm in a lot of pain all over again.the infection started all over again.

Two weeks ago I felt some pulsing feel on my 4 months old root canal tooth. When I press on the gum, it feels tender as well. I informed my ortho (who is also my general dentist who did this root canal) about it, she didn't took any x-ray but told me that it must be too stressed up by elastic.
Now, the tooth doesn't hurt anymore nor does the gum. It only hurts after wearing elastic. Therefore, I went to another clinic to took an x-ray to be safe as I'm gonna be out of country soon.
A few days later I started to have a tingling sensation, like I had to pee, so I went to an urgent care and they gave me Cipro for prostatitis. I had an STD screen three days into my Cipro cycle and it came back negative. I completed the 10 day cycle of Cipro, had a 7 day cycle of Doxocycline due to symptoms persisting, and then had another test done 4 days after the completion of Doxocycline. All tests were negative.
I am currently back on Cipro after seeing a urologist.
Would the Cipro knock that out? Also would trauma to the urethra become infected, and if so would cipro be the answer for that? Should I call the doc and request a different antibiotic?
